Just realized Kate is being open and friendly towards Roger Linus because he reminds her of Wayne the abusive/drunk biological dad she blowed up.

Anybody still think Kate is pregnant with Jack's bebby? I kind of do.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 16 April 2009 20:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Surely the van dudes (and by extension Ilana probably) were working for the Others? Would explain her arresting Sayid to get him on the plane.

I enjoyed this episode but didn't really think it illuminated a great deal. There's some good exposition that could be done with Miles but they haven't got there yet. I was hoping that maybe he'd stumbled across the Dharma mass grave before they started time travelling, that would really have shat his brain up.

I've missed Naomi though.

xpost ugh hope not. good episode tho, maybe funniest ever esp miles' expression when his dad said he liked country

when miles frowned at hurley mentioning luke cutting off his father's hand...maybe miles cuts his dad's off ha

i have a question based on last week's episode: is Roger's house in Dharmaville the same house Ben would return to later? if so when was the secret chamber/smokey's toilet within it built?

luke cutting off his father's hand

whoops well you know what i mean. i should watch that film some time.

i dunno but Dolly Parton's maiden name was Hallowax

wouldn't this make her want to avoid him? god she is a moron

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Thursday, 16 April 2009 21:12 (fifteen years ago) link

No because she feels BAD for killing him! She didn't know he was her dad when she did it. DUH.

Haha, I totally paused the show to write that one down, yeah, that was so classic.

Very nice 'slow' episode. I've loved Miles from the start, and this one only made me love him more. Seeing Faraday again was the wtf moment, I can't figure it out yet, but I'm glad he ain't through, because I love watching him as well. But story-wise, nothing really changed or 'happened'.

Did anyone catch who the body was Miles was driving around, or was it an insignificant (lol) other?

Gerard (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:02 (fifteen years ago) link

It was "Alverez":

The next episode is "The Variable" ... I guess relating it significantly to the episode "The Constant" (one of the best episodes of the show ever)?

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Nothing on that page, chap. Or was that the point?

*doesn't get it*

Gerard (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:10 (fifteen years ago) link

For me it says: "Alverez was a worker at the construction site of the Swan station in 1977. Radzinsky told Miles that he died as he fell in a ditch. Because Miles is suspicious about Alverez' head wound he uses his ability to find out what really happened. He learns Alverez had a filling which ripped from his mouth and exited through his brain. ("Some Like It Hoth")"

I think someone edited the page to fix the spelling of his name between when I posted and when you read it.

Really? I get a blank page, still. But I see what you mean now, failed to remember that, thanks.

Wait is there really a Richard Alpert episode? SO STOKED.

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Good to see Jimmy from Mad Men get punched in the face again though. I will never get tired of that.

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Heh, I can't free myself of seeing him as the bum from Mulholland Drive! The punching sadly, indeed, seems appropriate. Like he's constantly asking for a severe beating.

Gerard (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:29 (fifteen years ago) link

I made the mistake of looking at the IMDB page for "The Variable" and learned a little bit about who will appear in the episode, which is always a bit spoilery.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:30 (fifteen years ago) link

DO NOT SPOIL! (know you wont, but I'm steering away from imdb because of that at the moment)

thought so but could not remember that scene properly ack

he isn't the bum from mulholland drive. he is the guy in the diner who dreamt about the bum.

ya hahaha dudes

s1ocki, Friday, 17 April 2009 00:46 (fifteen years ago) link

my theory about tooth in head guy is that it's related to whatever magnet/force is under the orchid(?)... whatever the filling was made of was attracted by the force and in trying to get to it, ended up in dude's skull.

tehresa, Friday, 17 April 2009 05:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Michael Emerson on Jimmy Fallon's show right now.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 April 2009 05:05 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost Yeah, pretty much, a callback to S2 Desmond going "I don't know what's behind that wall, but every time I walk past it my fillings hurt" at the Swan/Hatch.

I thought the magnetic force was under The Swan? The Orchid is the one with the time force and the big wheel underneath it. That's not to say they're not connected.

So in 1977 the electromagnetism wasn't as severe as it was in 2004 when it caused all metal objects to fly across the room and potentially the whole world to implode upon itself, or whatever. But it still was pretty bad if it could cause a dude's filling to fly out of his tooth, through his brain and out the front of his skull. I suppose this is the Incident we're waiting for.

I liked it when Chang was talking about "stupid polar bear experiments". Pretty much all the big Dharma dudes are dicks, aren't they?

when we saw Daniel in the first few mins of the first episode is that before or after his arrival on the sub?

had to laugh at young "check me out on milespace" pierced child.

good episode tho yeah, short on plot. at least learning about miles is sort of interesting, I like this weird renegade true island believers group. BRAM. I don't think they're necessarily working for Ben either, isn't the 3.2m thing just Miles asking whoever wants to stop him working for Widmore to double the 1.6m. I mean if that group was working for Ben surely they'd know who he was when they get to the island? To me it seems more like "orphans of the island victim support group" or something.

Also enjoyed Dr Chang's sensible beige Dharma windbreaker.

thanks, i couldn't remember! that's why i put the (?) next to orchid.

kinda with you... i feel like they are not making efficient use of time. even though this ep was better than the past few, there were so many long stretches of nothing.

still i love faraday and miles and would rather the down time with them than stupid scenes like kate/roger, roger/jack, kate/juliet.

tehresa, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link

isn't The Swan also the site that Jughead is buried under (unbeknownst to Dharma i guess)?

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:15 (fifteen years ago) link

xposts: definitely disagree on that assessment, been loving this season, though i admit it has been slowing down a bit since they went back to regular flashbacks.

Roz: yes, i can't see them dragging out the time-travel drama into season 6. at least i hope not, though i have no idea what they're going to do for that season (though my guess is they're going to start doing weird stuff, kidnapping, working for the island, becoming full-fledged "Others" to complete the cycle that's been happening throughout the series). Wondering if the season will end with a return of Nü-Dharma/Octagon/statue people/etc. in 2008.

blueski: Could be - we don't where the bomb was buried by Richard. But one would think Richard would be watching that area more closely if it was there...

Nhex, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:19 (fifteen years ago) link

Since it was stressed so obviously that Dr Marvin Candle is dead in the present, that must mean he isn't.

James Mitchell, Friday, 17 April 2009 14:29 (fifteen years ago) link

But the bomb was sitting on open land and the Swan is in the jungle somewhere. I'm not saying Widmore etc didn't elect to carry an unstable nuclear device into the jungle for no apparent reason, but I can't see why they would.

Just been reading over the Lostpedia entries for the Dharma stations and there's a load of really dull shit they're probably going to try and fill in this season, like what exactly the Pearl is there for.

Which Dharma station is the one Sawyer works in?

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Friday, 17 April 2009 14:35 (fifteen years ago) link

The Horse.
