think smokie is possibly an agent for evil inhabiting all these bodies, and wouldn't be at all surprised if it transpires that locke is just a host for this.

it was an okay episode I thought though they really chickened out of any kind of decent smoke monster reveal, despite hamming up the ads all week. that was kind of disappointing. interested to know what "infected" meant when rousseau said it to emo-fringe ben.

also prob the weirdest/most interesting part was "what lies in the shadow of the statue". could smokey have possessed those lame nu-redshirts?

The crap Ana-Lucia has to be working for Widmore surely? But yeah that could be anything - Jacob's cabin, the Black Rock, some kind of time vortex. Hopefully it's something really cool we don't know anything about yet.

the question seemed more like a code to me, a way for ilana and brad henke and whoever else to identify themselves.

prob not that important but i just realized Ethan was offering to kill rousseau for ben - do the Others train kids to kill?

Roz, Tuesday, 14 April 2009 17:54 (fifteen years ago) link

ya they weren't actually asking them to find out haha!

s1ocki, Tuesday, 14 April 2009 17:56 (fifteen years ago) link

What I meant earlier was that if Locke is a smokey apparition why would smokey in an alternate Alex-lookin' apparition tell Ben not to kill him/her/it when smokey-Locke is (presumably) undead/unkillable?

I mean, if Locke is a smokey manifestation, why could smokey not just reappear as Locke again like 10 seconds after Ben kills him again?

I think I have confused myself further trying to clarify that, d'oh.

bread will never maybe attack your brain again (nickalicious), Tuesday, 14 April 2009 20:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah it's a code but I bet it refers to something that only Widmore and Widmore lackeys could know as well.

Theories about
Some Like It Hoth

Daniel is attacked by a Wampa while working near the Frozen Wheel. In order to save him, Miles must cut open Hurley and store the hypothermic Faraday inside the warmth of his carcass.

Okay, so who are these "what lies in the shadow of the statue" ppl, really? Are they Ben's people? Are they remnants of Dharma?

Also, ZOMG FARADAY!

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 16 April 2009 03:35 (fifteen years ago) link

really wanna see a sitcom with the Miles and Hurley Ghostbusting Team.

and yeahh FARADAYYYYY!

Roz, Thursday, 16 April 2009 04:41 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't get it, wasn't faraday supposed to have already been there with them? didn't someone in 77 say something about "what happened with daniel"? so I guess he was there, but left at some point? anyway, nice to see he isn't crazy or dead.

akm, Thursday, 16 April 2009 05:05 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah that was the fear, that he was either crazy or dead. although you know he's going to end up at the Orchid at some point cause of that scene at the start of the season. excited for his episode next week!

Roz, Thursday, 16 April 2009 05:24 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah he was there. Sawyer said something cryptic like "well he USED to be here ... before"

so I guess he took the sub back to the states, or jumped around in time a bunch more

xp

Way to fill out the backstory, Lost.

I love Miles though, so whatever.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 16 April 2009 06:28 (fifteen years ago) link

^yeah, pretty much how i felt, I'm just happy for more Miles, even if it felt kinda squandered given his story potential. Still I guess they felt they needed a bit of a break before the last set of eps which will probably be more intense.

also lol for "whatever happened, happened" Faraday leaving the island!

Nhex, Thursday, 16 April 2009 08:35 (fifteen years ago) link

these last few episodes have felt a bit like season 2 or something. slow on plot developments and heavy on character backstory - i'm just happy that it was on miles and not someone we already know too much about like jack or kate. plus it was fucking funny. so many good bits - basically every scene with hurley, miles' expression when his dad said he liked country, "did the ditch come with a gun?", "i'm in the circle of trust" and MALLPUNK MILES! lol

i don't know if i want flashforwards back though. there's something really exhilarating about knowing how something ended and not knowing how they got there, which is why season 4 felt so urgent and exciting but the fill-in-the-blanks style storytelling that has to come in afterwards usually just feels redundant.

Roz, Thursday, 16 April 2009 09:04 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah did we really need miles with the piercings? come on costume people that was fucking ridiculous

I loved the scene of Roger Workman killing beers on the swingset and going aggro on Kate.

Carl Magnusssen (petey_carnum), Thursday, 16 April 2009 12:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Thought this was really enjoyable. I'm happy for the break from huge plot development before the end. Sad about waiting 2 weeks until the next one.

Also, don't think this counts as a SPOILER but:

5.14 (April 29) “The Variable” (Daniel Faraday-centric)
5.15 (May 6) “Follow The Leader” (Richard Alpert-centric)
5.16-17 (May 13) “The Incident” (two-hour season finale)

I am so stoked for the Richard Alpert one.

Did anyone else think Daniel's "long time no see" to Miles implied that he's maybe been "gone" more than 3 years?

It's like the scene in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey where they study guitar for like 18 months then time-travel back in time to win the battle of the bands.

Did anyone else lol when Miles was all weepily "you DO?" to Chang when he said "Miles I need you"? It was a cute scene.

hurley connecting lost's daddy issues with star wars daddy issues a nice touch. i love their conversations. total buddies. miles acts annoyed, but you know he loves old hurley!

the last minute of each the last several episodes has been the best. hopefully one of these episodes coming up--and they look rad judging from info up thread--will finally fulfill the promise of these last-minute teasers.

I loved the scene of Roger Workman killing beers on the swingset and going aggro on Kate.

How did she ever survive life as a fugitive, when a drunk dude on a swingset can tell when she's lying/hiding something within 5 seconds?

yeah im thinking these people represent some non ben/widmore interest - theyre true believers

ice cr?m, Thursday, 16 April 2009 14:41 (fifteen years ago) link

The goons in the van were linked to Ben somehow though, because of the $3.2 million reference.

WmC, Thursday, 16 April 2009 14:42 (fifteen years ago) link

imo they are some anti-widmore resistance group that im sure ben teams up with when it is useful but is probably not formally linked to and im sure they hate him for some reason

Just realized Kate is being open and friendly towards Roger Linus because he reminds her of Wayne the abusive/drunk biological dad she blowed up.

Anybody still think Kate is pregnant with Jack's bebby? I kind of do.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 16 April 2009 20:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Surely the van dudes (and by extension Ilana probably) were working for the Others? Would explain her arresting Sayid to get him on the plane.

I enjoyed this episode but didn't really think it illuminated a great deal. There's some good exposition that could be done with Miles but they haven't got there yet. I was hoping that maybe he'd stumbled across the Dharma mass grave before they started time travelling, that would really have shat his brain up.

I've missed Naomi though.

Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Thursday, 16 April 2009 21:07 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost ugh hope not. good episode tho, maybe funniest ever esp miles' expression when his dad said he liked country

when miles frowned at hurley mentioning luke cutting off his father's hand...maybe miles cuts his dad's off ha

i have a question based on last week's episode: is Roger's house in Dharmaville the same house Ben would return to later? if so when was the secret chamber/smokey's toilet within it built?
