"Chameleon" feature introduced but only waterface can use it. He would have the ability to post under any username.

Not chameleon I guess so much as shape shifter. Other users can habe other superpowers too, all designed to cause maximum havoc

Still think it's a good idea to have a poll type where you have to choose a value on a scale of 1-10 (or 1-77) and results are shown as the average score
― niels, Tuesday, 24 November 2015 13:31 (eight years ago) link
it would be really useful to be able to order thread title search results by *most recently updated*

prevent users from ever being able to change their usernames. I hate having to keep track of who's who.

Be able to change the number of posts a thread will show before going to "Skipping #### messages at this point, click here to read them all" mode.
― Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 24 November 2015 15:58 (eight years ago) link
"Fishbowl" discussions. Some threads will have just 10 or so users posting, maybe people who know a lot about the given topic, but everyone can read the thread. Then there will be another thread where everyone else discusses the "main" thread, scrutinizing posters the way commentators do after a presidential debate.

i think it would be cool to print out ilx and house it in a reference library somewhere remote like marfa, texas. the collection is accessible to the public but you can't check out any of the files. the librarian's salary is paid for through the yearly drive

Some classic threads could be made into podcasts. Each poster would be voiced by a different actor. No celebrities though, we should support struggling artists
― Treeship, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 02:31 (eight years ago) link
Maybe one or two could be performed live. The dialogue would just be the thread but other aspects of the performance -- the setting, costumes, the actors' gestures and intonations -- would put all of it in a different context. Like, the discussion might be about mia but thats not whats really going on with the characters
― Treeship, Tuesday, 1 December 2015 02:37 (eight years ago) link
Maybe instead of performing threads as plays, we could film them as porn parodies. (Again, we'd hire outside talent for this).

better/worse yet, rig it so that (for instance) anyone who visits ilxor.com between 6:00 and 8:00 PM GMT on December 5 is automatically redirected to The Great ILX Gun Control Showdown, followed by a compulsory discussion thread between 8:00 and 9:00 PM. it's not like we have anything better to do with our time.

Some threads will have just 10 or so users posting
Some threads don't have ten posters on a good day.
― the fiest p (onimo), Tuesday, 1 December 2015 12:30 (eight years ago) link
These will be high interest threads though that only ten users will have access to. Think "panel discussion." The threads will be advertised on the new york city subway (log on at 10pm to watch the discussion in real time!)

a rewind feature that allows you to play back old threads so that you can relive the tension and excitement of watching classic clusterfucks develop in real time. if you're so inclined, you can play back all of ilx from the beginning, and you can adjust the speed to 2x/4x/8x/16x/etc. to catch up on ilx history more quickly.

better yet (xpost), newcomers will be required to play back the last 15 years of ilx at a maximum speed of 4x and get an 80% or higher on the forum history exam before they can begin posting. the rest of us will have our posting privileges suspended until we review the period of forum history preceding the date of our first posts.

solipsistic ilx: you think you're interacting with real posters, but they're actually just chatbots programmed to respond in the voices of real posters. there'll be a chatbot darraghmac and a chatbot morbius and a chatbot ned, and they'll all respond in character because they've been fed the complete posting histories of those individuals. this will be a tactful feature for banned/disliked posters: they can abuse the chatbots all they want without hurting anyone's irl feelings, and they won't have to face the indignity of knowing that they've been banned. over the years their ilx timelines will diverge from reality in very interesting ways.
