The local queer events powerhouse here is really pissed at TWC.

The company even built a group of volunteers whose main job was to hug strangers when they walked through the door.

This reminds me of this group of early twenty somethings who used to occasionally go around the mall where I worked with a sign advertising "FREE HUGS." Generally, one of the girls would hug the (consenting) male strangers, while they guys would hug the girls. When approached once during my shift and asked if I wanted a free hug, I said 'sure' and threw my arms around the nearest guy in the group, more to their bewilderment than amusement.

tbh the welcoming committee is about as appealing to me as, say, a gay version of linkedin. i understand the notion of visibility & safety in non-queer spaces but it feels a bit forced, no?
