I was being serious! There are a ton of Wire threads - for individual seasons, character polls, threads where posters "talk like a character from the Wire", etc. - to say nothing of all the threads that compare the Wire to other shows.

Bullshit. Thinking something is wrong for more than one reason is not the same as 'moving the goalposts'. And the idea that the scene is actually subversive, as if Game of Thrones is the first culture in the world that constantly punishes women. Read a comic book. Also, the idea that the rape was the same, but just to another person. It is not the same. Those are two different persons. It's two different rapes. And if we really want to go into it, in the show, Jeyne Pool is still captured, she is still being tormented somewhere, just not at Winterfell. We don't see it, no, but neither did we 'see' Ramsey rape her in the book. They invented more torment of a person that wasn't tormented before, they didn't just move some torment around. And why the fuck does this show keep on having to invent more torment for it's female characters? What sick impulse is this?

It seems at this point they're showing us three plausible rulers (Stannis, Dany and Jon) all of whom give something of a damn about the supernatural stuff in their world. The other players are too caught up in power politics
― Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Monday, 25 May 2015 15:06 (nine years ago) link
I think high sparrow possibly was waiting to do this. I half expected him to smile at the end, like a sadist but apparently he takes no pleasure in this.
I really thought Sam was going to kill those guys to get some cred, like Jon would have for executing that disobedient coward but it probably wouldn't have worked.
Amazed I didn't realise the Red women is the star of Black Book! Stannis is getting more interesting.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 25 May 2015 15:13 (nine years ago) link
littlefinger delivered lancel to the high sparrow no? thats what his line to the queen of thorns about having a beautiful boy for her was about
― lag∞n, Monday, 25 May 2015 15:15 (nine years ago) link
If Dany and Tyrion do somehow become allies, I hope the first thing they do is get a search team for Varys.
Maybe Jaime and Bronn will make this their new home? So nice there, even the prison stays.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Monday, 25 May 2015 15:20 (nine years ago) link
xp he did, but he may well have already known bc I expect lancel confessed most of his sins some time ago before cersei's capture, and was prob looking for the most opportune possible time
― slothroprhymes, Monday, 25 May 2015 15:22 (nine years ago) link
right after littlerfinger set it up?
― lag∞n, Monday, 25 May 2015 15:24 (nine years ago) link
in this working theory, lancel prob confessed to the high sparrow months and months ago, and it would be to the sparrow's advantage to wait for cersei to think she had him in his pocket, and then snap the trap - also perhaps he wanted to observe her actions for himself to have an opinion on cersei beyond whatever lancel told him
― slothroprhymes, Monday, 25 May 2015 15:26 (nine years ago) link
it's a little confusing with the littlefinger angle but it wouldn't be the first time his intentions dovetailed with someone else's
― slothroprhymes, Monday, 25 May 2015 15:27 (nine years ago) link
is this like based on anything that happened in the show, cause usually theyre pretty good about telling you whats going on and they had a scene where littlefinger said he set it up
― lag∞n, Monday, 25 May 2015 15:28 (nine years ago) link
well, lancel first revealed himself to cersei as a religious fanatic very early on in this season, making ominous statements about "his sins" and forgiveness, and could have been talking to the high sparrow as early as that - but I could also be demonstrably wrong! and the sparrow only just found out solely through littlefinger setting it up
― slothroprhymes, Monday, 25 May 2015 15:32 (nine years ago) link
Ha I assumed Littlefinger had found Roberts bastard in the rowboat
― Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Monday, 25 May 2015 15:36 (nine years ago) link
i mean cerseis misdeeds dont really fall under the heading of lancels sins, also everyone knows that cersei is gnarly as hell rumors re incest are public knowledge, lancel is important not as an informant but as a witness, but mostly from a storytelling standpoint it wld be weird to have the plot explicitly explained one way but then have another secret unreferenced plot happening in the background, sort of a tree falls in the forest type of scenario, maybe it happened that way in the books? idk
