How does smokey kill -- does it just inflict mortal wounds, or does it drag people down to its spider hole to be turned into podpeople zombies?

There seem to be 3 distinct types of resurrection the island can administer:

1. non-invasive healing (locke)
2. pod-zombie (french crew, christian)
3. fifth-dimensional superbeings that only crazy people can see (jacob, ana lucia)

For 2 to happen, smokey has to get you?
For 3 to happen, you have to be buried on the island (island worms are responsible?)

So was Mr. Eko dragged to a pit, or did he die from mortal wounds? Since he came back as a 5D-superghost, it looks like he was buried?

Smokey killed Eko by slamming him against a tree and dropping him. he was then buried by Locke and co iirc.

when did Eko come back? I don't remember that - or was he in the "lift up your eyes and look north" or whatever Locke episode?

now that jin can speak english, this opens the possibility that hurley's "have a nice clucking day" dream-episode where jin speaks english is actually time traveling superghost jin (who is not bound by space or time) messing with hurley.

also holding out hope that brother mouzone from the wire will avenge daniels' death. there was no need for ben to do him like that.

OMG Brother Mouzone would be incredible in Lost. He and Ben would just deadpan each other to death.

I don't think they can do too much with re-arranged timelines without seriously fucking up the chronology of the show and they seem to be trying to avoid that. Maybe the reason no one noticed the Namaste picture is just that none of the survivors had been in that house before?

yeah maybe. and the dock could definitely just be messed up from when Locke blew up the sub (which is what I thought when I was watching the episode).

nah we saw them witness the explosion which took out just the sub.

Sawyer's group probably went in there, I just imagine that it was hidden in plain sight so to speak.

There's a weird apocalyptic feel to the present day island - place is totally trashed and it seems like there's hardly anyone there.

x-post Well, it's true that no one would be there-- the 815ers are mostly in 1977, the Others abandoned the Barracks, the paramilitary guys are toast. I'll need a little more weirdness before I start thinking the 316ers are in an alternate timeline.

The Ben Linus theme this week into next is like television candy for me, as well.

nah in her stupidity kate did exactly what she was supposed to do. i normally hate kate episodes but quite liked this one, even though her scenes with aaron are still cringe-y.

didn't like the "ben will forget this happened" bit though, would've been ten times better if everything he did as an adult was because he already knew who the castaways were in his past.

YES. I love the symmetry of Jack and "Sawyer" changing places as the series moves from one end to the other. Would not be surprised to see James doing something heroic at the end, the way Jack took charge in episode 01-01.

I know some people are suspecting a Sawyer death this season, but I really think he's around til the end now....for the exact reasons WmC mentioned above.

I still think Sayid is going to be the S5 death.

Sayid really serves zero purpose at this point, right?

I mean, if his purpose was to shoot 12yo Ben and 12yo doesn't die but does become an Other, then purpose served.

yeah death seems more likely to be sayid's now. :( i wanted to see him do his requisite 10 mins of ass-kicking per season in S6.

so stoked for next week's episode - i've missed Locke.

That said, looking forward to adult Ben to start dematerializing in front of everyone while jamming on Johnny B. Goode.

LOL, sometimes I think the writers read this thread. The dialog b/w Hurley & Miles totally saved this episode from Kate emo-dullsville (though as a "Kate" episode, it was a cut above, which isn't saying much, but still..) & made a convincing argument for a series spinoff with H/M as wacky mismatched roommates which would consist primarily of Miles growing progressively impatient while trying to explain complex metaphysical concepts to an ever-inquisitive Hurley.

Also: Ben being all o_O @ coming to w/ Locke sitting by his bedside = classic. I'm looking forward to that conversation.

I think this is maybe my favorite season of the show.

ya miles + hurley conversation sounded like a thousand lost forum discussions.

i wonder if miles still sees dead people.

Good casting.

Kate flirting with Ben's dad creepy in so many ways. With Sawyer paired up with Juliet and Kate hating Jack, why not give Miles a spin first? Oh, Kate.

Better than most Kate episodes, but still kind of blah. I would have liked to see more of Kate and Cassidy - I missed a few minutes after the first commercial break so maybe it was then. And she didn't seem to tell Sawyer "btw, I already knew Cassidy" which would have been an interesting conversation. :P

Myles/Hurley was A+

Can't wait to see more of Locke in the, uh, "land of the living"!

I wonder what exactly they meant by "lose his innocence" anyway, I hope that gets explored in the next episode. Didn't get to see the preview but I heard there is a lot of Ben coming our way, possibly some Desmond/Penny boat murder (attempts?? I hope) & maybe even the Rousseau/Alex kidnapping! Bring it!

Judging from the "next week on Lost" clip, Ben's attempt on Penny's life will be next week. But there was one little thing in that clip that makes me think he doesn't succeed.

yeah that bothered me too. after the whole Miles-Hurley bit, which was funny but sort of all "stop thinking about this show so hard" and ends with the "why wouldn't adult Ben remember Sayid" paradox (zing) ..... they then feel the need to throw in a dumb explanation for why adult Ben wouldn't know Sayid.
