re: raid 2, i saw it in theaters and had high hopes after the great experience of the first raid. it didn't quite live up.
watched "test" last night and it was great! we tried john wick and my girl freaked out when reek from game of thrones killed a puppy and that sorta put that on ice after fifteen minutes of grumpy keanu

Test is pretty OK for a gay movie, not anything for EOY lists imho.

i've done some peripheral work with sidra bell, the choreographer on test; i thought the dancing was a+. as a portrait of west coast gay life at the dawn of the post-AIDS era it felt honest but wtf do i know

I liked Test quite a bit--more so as it went on, which is usually the opposite of how it works with me. The lead was immensely empathetic, the soundtrack was great (queued up Laurie Anderson's "Born, Never Asked" the moment in ended), and it had a strong sense of time and place. I was beginning to worry that Stranger by the Lake had temporary ruined me for new queer-themed movies, so my reaction to this (while nowhere near as good as that film) was something of a relief.

and Visage's "The Anvil" (Steve Strange RIP).

x-post: Mine as well. It will probably never get a theatrical release in the UK, from what I can tell. Certain British writers have been fuming about it for a looong time. Should get out on a dvd, packed with Journey to the West, which is also on my list.

It has screened in the UK as part of the Edinburgh Film Festival, which is where I saw it.

Prob screened at the London film fest too(?), and it had one screening in Dec at a vue cinema in Stratford, which I couldn't attend.

It should get a one week run at the cinema sometime during the year..

Why Don't You Play in Hell, Guilty of Romance and Himizu ALL got late 2014 theatrical runs in the US (NYC only, but still). So all three are fair game, imo. Will likely vote for the latter two myself. Land of Hope, so far as I know, hasn't ever had a US release. And I expect that Tokyo Tribe will get some kind of showing this year.

Haven't ordered my list, but Stray Dogs will certainly be in the top 5.

it's great fun, overwhelmingly ambitious & features a magnificent onscreen love triangle, but i'm not sure you trust my opinion
