damon or carlton mentioned somewhere that they weren't sure if they'd bring radzinsky back since nobody would remember him. i'm glad they did.

abanana, Thursday, 19 March 2009 04:50 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah and again, the way they've done it is that it doesn't really matter at this point whether anyone remembers him or not, although it's cool for those who do.

I'm dreading the Faraday story, didn't seem like it'd end well.

Roz, Thursday, 19 March 2009 05:00 (fifteen years ago) link

it sounds like faraday is still alive, because he didn't refer to him in the past tense...so maybe he's gone nuts?

also, pretty obvious by now that christian is actually alive and not some apparition or ghost or something, right?

akm, Thursday, 19 March 2009 05:37 (fifteen years ago) link

in 2007 at least, he seems alive. when he appeared at the frozen donkey wheel, it was during the four-toed statue era (so i guess he's also a time-travelling undead?) and he couldn't/wouldn't touch Locke.

and omg did anyone else notice someone standing in the shadows behind sun while she's looking at the 1977 photo? it could have been a mistake, maybe a production crew member but there is definitely a woman standing behind her turning her head. claire? either way, super creepy.

Roz, Thursday, 19 March 2009 06:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Someone posted a screencap of it in the AV Club review - I totally missed it in the viewing, so I'm guessing it's a production error.

(Still praying all of Darlton's talk about how they don't give a damn about Libby is just a way to lower expectations for when they give us a mind-blowing Libby explain-o-palooza in Season 6)

Nhex, Thursday, 19 March 2009 06:10 (fifteen years ago) link

I liked that episode a lot.

I think Faraday snuck Charlotte off the island via the donkey wheel.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 19 March 2009 06:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Or at least snuck her off the island and then subsequently snuck out via the wheel.

i felt almost sorry for Jack this ep - he was all "alright, we're going back to the island, i can be a leader again and fix shit" and he gets there, it's 1977, sawyer's in charge of everything and living with juliet, kate hates him and he's a janitor at "The Shed".

Roz, Thursday, 19 March 2009 06:49 (fifteen years ago) link

I think Jack is a douchenozzle so this ^^ made me very happy. Except that Sawyer challenging Jack's authority probably increases his chances of being the dead body at the end of the season.

the devil's runes (reddening), Thursday, 19 March 2009 09:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Sawyer's "Churchill used to read a book every night during the Blitz" speech was Ben-worthy.

Christian is the creepiest character on the show--sounds like the devil even when he's telling Sun the truth about where Jin is.

If Young Ben is already in Dharma-ville, Juliet et al must know him. I wonder if he's already working with Richard Alpert at that point. Worried that Sayyid will try to kill Young Ben, and then die himself.

So the SSN 3 runway project was indeed in anticipation of the Ajira landing. Did Ben know he would be on that plane?

President Keyes, Thursday, 19 March 2009 11:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Cesar is shaping up as a pretty cool character-- one of the few inquisitive types to touch down on the island.

President Keyes, Thursday, 19 March 2009 11:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Amy's baby turning out to be Ethan was underwhelming--but if it had been anyone else we know (Des, Dan, etc.) then we would need about 3 episodes explaining how that baby grew up to have a Scottish accent or whatever.

President Keyes, Thursday, 19 March 2009 11:40 (fifteen years ago) link

And Daniel being gone-- I can only think of a few theories on this.

1. He went off to the Hostiles, knowing that they know more about the nature of the island. Perhaps Sawyer even sent him there.
2. He turned the Donkey Wheel and left the island.
3. He took the Sub off island to bring some important thing/person back with him.
4. Sawyer is lying--he has Daniel deep undercover in a secret Dharma project.
5. He's dead.

President Keyes, Thursday, 19 March 2009 13:31 (fifteen years ago) link

6. He went crazy/kept time travelling somehow? That was my immediate thought. Remember, we saw him working to build the Orchid at the beginning of this season.

sawyer was a little hard on jack - shouldve been just all dont worry dude get a good nights sleep everything will be explained - they need to work together

lol @ everything in this ep tho basically - seeing the old dharma culture is super sweet

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 13:43 (fifteen years ago) link

this whole season has been pretty great

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 19 March 2009 13:43 (fifteen years ago) link

I like that Sawyer is sort of pissed that his Dharma set-up is in peril. I'd have expected him to stand up to Razinsky a little more--I mean, he is the Head of Security, not just some guard--but he's totally into Dharma, calling them "my people." I guess 3 years outweighs 3 months with the 815ers.

President Keyes, Thursday, 19 March 2009 13:47 (fifteen years ago) link

Oooh, maybe Faraday got assigned the role of scientist (he’d make a pretty shitty janitor with that nervous tic, nothing would ever be cleaned properly) and he’s off island, building the Dharma station in LA where we saw Eloise.

Or maybe HE'S the horse!!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 19 March 2009 13:49 (fifteen years ago) link

where are we supposed to know razinsky from?

He drew the map on the blast door.

Yes, he seemed troubled.

just read a VERY MINOR SPOILER

season 5 finale is called The Incident Parts 1 & 2!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 19 March 2009 14:22 (fifteen years ago) link

they should just kill ben now

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 14:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Sayid might! He's COLD.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 19 March 2009 14:24 (fifteen years ago) link

They can't (in the past), but they might try. Hopefully it won't be a circular explanation for why Ben is evil.

abanana, Thursday, 19 March 2009 14:49 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't think we need one! Having your father hate and resent you all your life is plenty, don't you think?

WmC, Thursday, 19 March 2009 14:57 (fifteen years ago) link

it would be awesome if ben particularly hated the o6 cause they tried to off him as a kid

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 14:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Or if he killed Nadia to get back at Sayyid.

President Keyes, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:07 (fifteen years ago) link

sawyer's line about not playing Nostradamus made me think they (the ones who were left behind) might have already contemplated the possibility of killing little Ben. I'm pretty sure they'd know the creepy little kid with no friends.

Roz, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:10 (fifteen years ago) link

prediction: Sayid kills Annie

abanana, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Bookworm Sawyer smacking down Jack and claiming to be "a thinker" (as opposed to Jack's primordial brain stem snap responsiveness?) was a little bit of a stretch. Even Jack sorta rolled his eyes at that one, but I'm wondering if we're supposed to see Sawyer as someone who has become a bit of a megalomaniac in the mid-70s or if he really has honed his leadership skillz. What's with Juliet answering the door and then quickly bowing out to another room? Doesn't she know Jack and Sawyer well enough to chill out in the living room with them?

apparently she feels some awkwardness re: jack's return and wanted to leave the boys alone

cutty, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:21 (fifteen years ago) link

kate and juliet just need to do boyfriend swap and everything will be cool

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Maybe "The Incident, Pt. 1" is the wild tequila party/boyfriend swap and "Pt. 2" is the four of them arguing about it the next morning.

I f'd up the word rear (Z S), Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:28 (fifteen years ago) link

haa yes! what w/losts sterling record of taking shit to the next level i could see this happening

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:30 (fifteen years ago) link

I guess 3 years outweighs 3 months with the 815ers.

God, I hope so. If they get into heavy relationship drama, I'm going to be pissed off. Sawyer had some fling with Kate, who's a trouble-magnet attention whore three years ago. Jim LaFleur's got a relatively stable life and, hopefully, is now above all this petty horseshit. Even back then, he was more logical about his choices and less snap judgement than Jack.

mh, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Sawyer's "Churchill used to read a book every night during the Blitz" speech was Ben-worthy.

Thinking on that a little more...the Sawyer of three years earlier probably wouldn't even have known what the Blitz was. That "chill the fuck out, Jack, I got this" scene is my favorite from the episode, except for Sun clocking Ben.

WmC, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:59 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't think that it's fair to say Sawyer wouldn't have known what the blitz was – he’s always been portrayed as a brainy good for nothing (some of his nicknames have been more nuanced than iHOP, we see him doing a lot of reading, he’s a great strategist)

Interesting how Jin & Sun have kind of switched places... Jin is a chilled out hippie (not that Sun was ever a hippie.. but you get my drift) and now Sun is a raging maniac ready to smack a bitch!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 19 March 2009 16:11 (fifteen years ago) link

I always thought of him as running on instincts rather than brains until the island forced him to slow down. That season-one scene of him reading a book made it kind of look like that was a totally new experience for him.

WmC, Thursday, 19 March 2009 16:12 (fifteen years ago) link

They overplayed the awkwardness between Jack & Juliet a bit. I mean they just flirted and kissed like one time three years earlier.

President Keyes, Thursday, 19 March 2009 16:17 (fifteen years ago) link

dharma group jin doesn't seem particularly chilled out to me

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 19 March 2009 16:18 (fifteen years ago) link

xxp no way, sawyer's been portrayed reading in flashbacks too - okay one flashback, where he reads Of Mice and Men in jail. but yeah, i agree with FFM, he's the guy who's constantly railing against the dumb redneck stereotype.

i think my favourite line this ep was lapidus telling sun about how they had to bring a whole freighter of commandos just to capture ben, and ben replying "oh yeah? and how did that work out for you?". dude's so fucking scary. anyone notice he took off his cast? was he faking it or did the island heal him?

Roz, Thursday, 19 March 2009 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link

he tested his arm - island heald him seems

and yah that line was super sweet

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 16:27 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, I guess Jin can’t be as chilled out as my description of hippie implies, since he’s a security guy on a mystical island inhabited by hostiles and Radzinskis… but he’s been steadily developing into Sensitive Guy since they crashed on the island, whereas Sun has become colder and more calculating since she’s left the island (out of necessity, sure, but the same can be said of Jin’s pre-island behaviour)

I forgot about Sawyer reading in his jail cell – thanks! I’m sure a lot of his behaviour can be attributed to his wits but I do feel like he’s a lot smarter than he puts on, as are most con men. Don’t forget, he knows a lot about Little House on the Prairie! Only geeks watched that show! (And guys who live in trailer parks with their Grandmas…)

Definite LOLs at Ben’s “how did that work out for you?” line, yeah. I also liked Sun’s “I lied,” I wonder how many times in the history of Lost people have uttered that one..
