Good luck getting San Franciscans to come to the east bay

polyphonic, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 17:03 (nine years ago) link

it's pretty easy to get San Franciscans to come to the East Bay tbh, just double their rent or evict them! Har-de-har-har

hehe

polyphonic, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:51 (nine years ago) link

I feel like we've almost reached the point where there is more going on culturally over here in Oakland/Berkeley than in SF

sarahell, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:52 (nine years ago) link

uh, yeah

akm, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:55 (nine years ago) link

It's pretty hard to see a screening of a non-famous old film anywhere but the PFA these days. Castro's scheduling has gotten pretty boring apart from festival season.

last night I watched Dark Passage with Bogart and Bacall, and she lives here (and there was location shooting; he climbs the Filbert Steps too):

Οὖτις, Thursday, 18 December 2014 23:09 (nine years ago) link

I haven't been to that space in years -- probably over a decade -- I don't remember how big it is. The article doesn't say how big the space is or whether they've had rent increases during their tenancy. 26% is a lot compared to the normal annual bumps in a standard general industrial lease, but if they haven't seen their rent go up in the last x years? It's shitty, no doubt, but I'm sure that we've all seen shittier, more fucked up situations

the chron says disappointingly little about the body parts suitcase

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Thursday, 29 January 2015 08:03 (nine years ago) link

eh there's usually not much to be gained from publicizing details of that kind of thing, don't want to jeopardize the investigation etc. I do wonder if it's connected to the recent spate of gang-related killings though, or that recent quadruple homicide in Hayes Valley. cuz this many murders already in the new year is kind of crazy.

Οὖτις, Thursday, 29 January 2015 17:30 (nine years ago) link

and then a huge fire in my 'hood! sheesh. RIP Popeye's, my wife was always trying to get me to eat there
