yeah Craster is a bad dad

Theon's dad's a real nurturing dude too, and of course there's Tywin...
So is Nedd maybe the only decent dad in the story, then?

Catelyn seemed to like her dad
― Number None, Friday, 20 June 2014 14:17 (nine years ago) link
love that we're reduced to characters who never appear in the show for good dads
― Brio2, Friday, 20 June 2014 14:19 (nine years ago) link
the dad who got an arrow through the head courtesy of ygritte seemed like a pretty good dad in his 30 seconds of screen time

Worst dad is the direwolf who couldn't prevent his baby momma from dying AND left all seven of his newborn children to die in the snow
― 龜, Friday, 20 June 2014 14:22 (nine years ago) link
the dad who took in the hound and arya and then was robbed by the hound seemed like a good dad, wanted the best for his daughter even as winter comes etc

maybe westeros is full of lovely families who happily go about their lives until the characters grrm's decided to focus on appear and immediately fuck everything up.

I honestly couldn't remember if he appeared in the show or not. Think I invented a deathbed scene
― Number None, Saturday, 21 June 2014 08:46 (nine years ago) link
I actually don't think Tywin was THAT bad of a dad. I mean overall sure. But he had a lot of good traits that you want in a parent..or maybe more a boss. Tywin would make a great CEO.

― Frederik B, Saturday, 21 June 2014 10:19 (nine years ago) link
I think that not being killed by your children would be fairly high on the list of key performance indicators for being a good parent.
― AlanSmithee, Saturday, 21 June 2014 13:11 (nine years ago) link
yeah, a great CEO. would watch a spinoff consisting of nothing more than Tywin going to council meetings and ruling the kingdom. Charles Dance has no equal on this show (Pedro Pascal and Diana Rigg come close).
but a terrible dad with a hate/competition thing going on with his only worthy heir

if they're not gonna be bold enough to use this as the theme next season they could at least re-record the current one with real instruments, it could be so much better.

the article claims theon's the only male to do full frontal, but i could've sworn we saw hodor's hodor swinging around at one point.

― Quinoa Phoenix (latebloomer), Tuesday, 1 July 2014 06:51 (nine years ago) link
It was a prosthetic Hodor, and we saw the wine merchant who tried to poison Dany, but Theon's is the only one that was in a pointedly sexual context.

During the chaos, many old grudges were settled, sometimes under the guise of overdue justice. A man called Iron Herman took the opportunity to charge Guy of Steenvoorde with participating in the Flemish count’s murder. Guy turned immediately to a trial by combat, and in this case, both men did their own fighting. This actual fight has more than a few echoes in the Martell-Clegane duel. From the beginning, Guy had the better of the fight, unhorsing Herman and toying with him for awhile. Eventually Guy lost his mount as well, and the two men got down to a slugging match with their swords. The sheer exhaustion involved in such an effort quickly wore out both men, who both willingly threw away their heavy shields to devote their remaining strength to the fight itself. Eventually, Iron Herman was on the ground prostrate and seemingly finished. As Guy prepared to deliver the coup de grâce, Herman saw and took a brutal path to victory. From his place on the ground, he reached up and grabbed Guy’s testicles, held on to them tight, and then shoved Guy aside without loosening his grip. With all his "lower parts broken apart," Guy admitted defeat, an admission that saw him hanged a few hours later for his (now proven) treachery.
