wait what
― stadow shevens (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:35 (ten years ago) link
do they look completely different or something?
yeah he's the beardo now.
― ryan, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:37 (ten years ago) link
ok lol that's ridiculous
― stadow shevens (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:39 (ten years ago) link
i totally didn't get that was supposed to be the same dude
― brio, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:39 (ten years ago) link
o.g actor went off to be in some new Transporter series
― Insane Prince of False Binaries (Gukbe), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:42 (ten years ago) link
Yeah, it's weird. Why didn't they make the new actor have some kind of similar hairstyle at the beginning to ease the transition? I think already said this upthread though.
― Evan, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:42 (ten years ago) link
The OG Daario was one of the worst actors I've ever seen on TV, like a badly dubbed 70s Italian porn star. Thanks, Transporter, for sparing us.

And of course, compared to the description in the books:

xp i thought he was great for that exact reason
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:44 (ten years ago) link
Yeah he had that grocery-store-romance-novel-cover look to him.
― Evan, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:45 (ten years ago) link
yeah original guy was campy and totally great.
― ryan, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:45 (ten years ago) link
show could use some (more) camp imo
― stadow shevens (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:48 (ten years ago) link
lol yeah I loved OG Daario. At least he was memorable, and totally made Jorah look like a chump in comparison.
― Roz, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:49 (ten years ago) link
new guy looks like a random dude from westeros which is the exact opposite of what the character is supposed to be like
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:52 (ten years ago) link
exactly. I have no problem replacing actors if necessary but he's so off the mark for that character it's ridiculous
― lauded at conferences of deluded psychopaths (Sparkle Motion), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 16:56 (ten years ago) link
Fabio dude was great!
― brio, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 17:00 (ten years ago) link
Maybe it's more of a meta casting change, a comment on the shallowness of the contemporary hipster beardo. Also, I'm pretty sure I saw nu-Daario on Orphan Black last week.
― Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 17:19 (ten years ago) link
He was/is one of the main characters in Treme.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 18:30 (ten years ago) link
and his character on Treme is indeed a hipster beardo
― nitro-burning funny car (Moodles), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 18:33 (ten years ago) link
Holy crap, I was going to ask who that dude suddenly hanging out with Dany was but I figured I just wasn't paying attention.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 18:50 (ten years ago) link
One of the buskers, right? (I stopped watching after 5 episodes.)
― Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 19:16 (ten years ago) link
He was good in Zwartboek.
― polyphonic, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 19:19 (ten years ago) link
He was a busker in the first season, then a junkie then a fisherman. I think I stopped watching at the third season.
― Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 20:39 (ten years ago) link
he played a Jack White-esque producer/musician in Nashville. I find him distractingly handsome normally but he seems so out of place in GoT
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 20:57 (ten years ago) link
He's doing an OK job as far as I'm concerned. It's more an issue of the decision to not make him look anything like what the character looked like last season.
― Evan, Thursday, 8 May 2014 02:27 (ten years ago) link
I mean they go through such lengths with sets and costume and everything to make everything as convincing as possible that it's strange that they wouldn't apply that same dedication to a casting change.
― Evan, Thursday, 8 May 2014 02:29 (ten years ago) link
At least the old daario was a badass and somewhat of an interesting character.
This new guy picks flowers and follows her around like a lost puppy. Horrible.

new Daario looks a bit like that guy from Interpol. I had forgotten about what old Daario looked like. Neither of them have dyed blue beard prongs. It's maybe-not-too-interesting, but a bit interesting, that a couple of the female leads have dyed hair to fit their character descriptions but none of the men seem to
― sarahell, Thursday, 8 May 2014 02:55 (ten years ago) link
Yeah I get the feeling that the previous dude's departure was rather abrupt and they just had no time.

― Evan, Thursday, 8 May 2014 03:08 (ten years ago) link
Dinklage's hair is dyed. Dany's brothers was too wasn't it?
― mizzell, Thursday, 8 May 2014 03:32 (ten years ago) link
oh yeah, true, he was in the BBC Robin Hood tv show with dark hair
― sarahell, Thursday, 8 May 2014 10:23 (ten years ago) link
i agree that it's just weird that they didnt even bother to give him the same (no) facial hair
― socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 8 May 2014 13:25 (ten years ago) link
Maybe in the world of the show he just woke up one day and was a different guy, Lost Highway-style
― Quinoa Phoenix (latebloomer), Thursday, 8 May 2014 13:43 (ten years ago) link
The whole show is just the elaborate guilt-trip fantasy of some Westerosi convict

this has already happened on this show, Jaqen H'ghar style
― mizzell, Thursday, 8 May 2014 14:10 (ten years ago) link
It's all in the head of Ned Stark, a la Owl Creek.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 8 May 2014 14:10 (ten years ago) link
Still going to get beheaded, though.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 8 May 2014 14:11 (ten years ago) link
this is a particular hobbyhorse of mine but its insane to me that they have a DUTCH actor for new daario and they make him use an english/westerosi accent
― max, Thursday, 8 May 2014 19:58 (ten years ago) link
max, did you ever see that tv show Borgia? It was interesting in that the actors were from all over and accents varied widely
― sarahell, Thursday, 8 May 2014 20:02 (ten years ago) link
as if this show gives a fuck about accents when they have two separate families where nobody has the same accent
― gyac, Thursday, 8 May 2014 20:02 (ten years ago) link
^^^ yeah that is endlessly amusing to me
― stadow shevens (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 8 May 2014 20:29 (ten years ago) link
it gives just enough of a fuck that its bizarre that it doesnt just actually give a whole fuck
― max, Friday, 9 May 2014 01:18 (ten years ago) link
it rubs the lotion on its skin
― socki (s1ocki), Friday, 9 May 2014 03:31 (ten years ago) link
this is why Aidan Gillen's ongoing meta-commentary on the essentially arbitrary nature of the accents in Game of Thrones is so ingenious
