so obv tywin is still in control, the little brother is the technical king, but is margery queen? or is cersei queen-regent still?
i could see a million reasons to kill joffrey for pretty much anyone but it seems like if cersei is queen when joffrey dies, why did they tyrells wait until the marriage was official? or was it even official if they didn't consumate it?
― hug niceman (psychgawsple), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 17:11 (ten years ago) link
unrelated, but I noticed with some amusment that margery's wedding dress was the least booby thing she's worn in the entire show

don't want to distract from that perfect snot/blood rivulet draining out of joffrey's head

― linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 17:27 (ten years ago) link
I don't understand how literally anyone watching this would think Joffrey was killed by one of his own family. Regardless of how evil/insane he is, the fact remains that he's their evil/insane guy and everyone else has to suffer him. Killing him in a safe venue at the height of his power doesn't gain the Lannisters anything. It makes them look vulnerable.
― gyac, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 17:43 (ten years ago) link
Tommen stands to gain, he prob. did it.
― reddening, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 17:47 (ten years ago) link
well this blond kid claiming to be tommen is clearly not tommen from the last season, so if he has disposed of and replaced the original tommen, it is not hard to believe he would similarly remove his only obstacle to the throne
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 17:53 (ten years ago) link
it's clearly the sigur ros guy

When someone shouted "stormbringer" to name the sword, surely that was a Moorcock/Elric reference? I can't recall the other suggested names.

I (of course) lol'd at this too, seemed unusually meta. I did wonder if the other names were from other fantasy series.

Let's not forget Ned Stark. He had the most motive, and his alibi is a little too perfect.
― jmm, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:27 (ten years ago) link
the other suggestions were Terminus (from The Book of the New Sun), Wolfsbane (which I assume is just a Stark reference), and there's another one that shouted over which I can't quite hear
― Number None, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:34 (ten years ago) link
I think reading the books before watching the show is probably not the best way to appreciate the show.

Martin is some kind of master of pulling off contradictory feelings in his readers of "nothing is happening / everything is happening."

Terminus might be the coolest name for a sword I've ever heard. I assume those references weren't in the book. I'm generally not fond of fannish references but somehow I didn't mind it in the show.

It's "Terminus Est" to be precise

You can do some hand wavey stuff about dragons and magic and I wont mind too much. When u posit that a world with irregular seasons would still have regular plants and animals as we know them I think you're just being stupid. Maybe this is handled more explicitly in the books or something.

For all we know in the "real" version of the world that the show portrays everyone is a ten foot tall amoeboid creature that speaks in hormones, but it's all translated back into a understandable form to us.
