Ben didn't show up on the island he was about 10- or 12-ish? So it might be before then. But yeah, if he was born in the early '60s (this was assumed because his current age was placed around his 40s at some point) he probably should be on the island by now... but who knows, I'm not too sure we're done with the time-jumping at all.

Nhex, Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:17 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i think dan is still working on trying to get them back to 2008.

i was just thinking that even if ben wasn't there by 1974, he should have been there by 1977.

Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:19 (fifteen years ago) link

oh and jin is like totally fluent now! <3

Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:28 (fifteen years ago) link

(Re: Ben) Sort of... I got the sense from one of the Darlton interviews that the timeline as we know it is not... completely accurate, especially with regards to these kind of matching relative time placements of events with "real time". This probably means they are rewriting more Lost history on the fly - they spoiled a thing or two I'm not gonna repeat. (And yeah, the three year jump was a good excuse to have Jin a lot more fluent now.)

Nhex, Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:35 (fifteen years ago) link

This was probably my favorite episode of the season thus far. From a story-telling perspective it just felt nice and relaxed and self-confident.

! (Clay), Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:49 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i thought it was really well-paced. apparently one of the two writers who wrote this episode has only written one other Lost episode, which probably explains all the fan shout-outs - the black rock, buddy with the eyeliner, mr. i see dead people etc.

Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 08:12 (fifteen years ago) link

lostpedia:

The statue appears to be that of the Egyptian god Horus. Traditional depictions of Horus portray him as carrying an ankh (similar to the ankh necklace seen later in the LaFleur episode). The view of the statue's back seems to show that it is carrying an ankh as well as something in the other hand. Though this is still speculation (because we have only seen the statue's back), the coincidence of a character named Horace who is now carrying an ankh is astounding. Also, the literary references mention multiple authors named Horace.

Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 08:16 (fifteen years ago) link

This somewhat diminishes my prediction that when we finally see the front of the statue, it will have RICHARD'S FACE (complete with obsidian eyeliner).

none of that (reddening), Thursday, 5 March 2009 08:52 (fifteen years ago) link

glad everyone finally coming around to juliet's hotness. she looks better when she doesn't have hair down and weird domesticated clothes tho

had to lol at sawyer's awful acting in this episode, eg the scene where juliet tells him and jin the baby and mother are fine and he has about 7 seconds in which he alternates between two faces, one smiling "i feel all gooey inside" and one "well ain't that somethin" that stops just short of him slapping his knee.

similarly earlier when he's in the jungle with juliet and they're flirting about the beach plan and his face suddenly turns all "WELL HELLO THERE LITTLE LADY, WALK OVER MY COAT AND DON'T GET THOSE PRETTY FEET DIRTY"

kate looked horrendous for the reunion, sleeveless top and awful chav ponytail thing going on.

definitely feeling some trepidation about the whole love square bullshit that's about to happen.

Horace and Saywers man to man was great. Also "okay, PLATO", lol.

No Rose & Bernard visible in the Dharma compound--probably with the Others?

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 12:21 (fifteen years ago) link

If the 4-toed Statue is of Horus this is interesting (given all the eye shit with Jack and Locke):

The Eye of Horus became an important Egyptian symbol of power. Horus had a man's body and a falcon's head. Horus fought with Set for the throne of Egypt. In this battle one of his eyes was injured and later it was healed by Isis. This healing of the eye became a symbol of renewal. Horus united Egypt and bestowed divinity upon the pharaohs who were viewed as incarnations of Horus in life.

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 12:26 (fifteen years ago) link

are they going for a paedo angle with charlotte/daniel

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 12:37 (fifteen years ago) link

one last time--WHO CARES ABOUT FUCKING ROSE AND BERNARD

cutty, Thursday, 5 March 2009 12:37 (fifteen years ago) link

x-post lostpaedia

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 12:37 (fifteen years ago) link

x-post obviously the writers do or they'd have killed them with the other log carrying people.

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 12:40 (fifteen years ago) link

So who does Reiko's son grow up to be?

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:11 (fifteen years ago) link

hard one to call isn't it. like, who can it even be at? this stage we've seen so many births.

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:16 (fifteen years ago) link

f u guys kate still pwns juliette i were sawyer id jump all ovr dat

ice cr?m, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:25 (fifteen years ago) link

SAWYER IS DEAD. LONG LIVE LAFLEUR

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:25 (fifteen years ago) link

troo

ice cr?m, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, but it's the only baby we know of so far that was both conceived on and born on the Island--they said that Reiko was supposed to leave the island to give birth, which was probably the procedure for all Dharma births.

More Horus/Horace stuff, regarding the healing of the eye: Horace has glasses for the first few times he appears, but in later scenes has no glasses due to the healing effects of the Island.

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:27 (fifteen years ago) link

He probably misses his old glasses.

BTW who is Reiko?

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:28 (fifteen years ago) link

Strangely, I just watched a DW Griffith movie, Orphans of the Storm about the French revolution. It had a character named LaFleur--sort of a henchman of the aristocrats.

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Reiko Aylesworth-- the actress from 24 who was in this episode giving birth.

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:30 (fifteen years ago) link

Ah I knew that's who you meant but didn't get the Reiko reference.

Why the fuck did the Others want that dude's body? Something to do with him having the Ankh necklace?

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:32 (fifteen years ago) link

kate is gross dood. looks like she smells.

cutty, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:32 (fifteen years ago) link

they wanted the body to appease their people. two of their men died and alpert wanted to show they killed one of the dharmites.

cutty, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:32 (fifteen years ago) link

oh okay that makes a weird sense I guess. others sound like a bunch of angry savages.

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:33 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm glad that ned is on lost now

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:37 (fifteen years ago) link

btw

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:37 (fifteen years ago) link

namaste! ;)

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:38 (fifteen years ago) link

x-post Actually they sound like the Israelis or the Palestinians-- "You broke the cease fire, now we have to kill a few thousand of you."

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:38 (fifteen years ago) link

don't think it matters who reiko's son grows up to be - he prob got killed in the purge.

Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:43 (fifteen years ago) link

but surely the others broke the ceasefire by killing that dude. wasn't he dead as soon as sawyer saw them?

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:44 (fifteen years ago) link

don't think it matters who reiko's son grows up to be - he prob got killed in the purge.

oh come on, this is obviously going to be a huge reveal

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:44 (fifteen years ago) link

True-- it sounded like Paul and Reiko had strayed into some forbidden area tho.

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:45 (fifteen years ago) link

x-post

Yeah, they're going to show us a baby being born, not tell us his name right away, and then let us assume it dies when he's like 10 years old? Charlotte and Miles (if he's Dr. Candle's son) didn't die in the purge.

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:47 (fifteen years ago) link

the security dude down in the station who was dancing with the girl looked really familiar ... any idea what he was from? pretty sure i've seen the actor in some other movies or tv shows

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:48 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't know, it's always been implied that horace was a father figure of sorts to ben - when the purge happened, it was horace's body that ben cared for more than his own dad. knowing ben, i don't think he would have taken too kindly to horace's son. xp

Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:48 (fifteen years ago) link

by that i mean the actor looked familiar, not the character

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:48 (fifteen years ago) link

He was the wheelchair rugby dude from Friday Night Lights right?

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:49 (fifteen years ago) link

wtf even if that baby does die in the purge they're going to tell us who he is, but assuming he's someone significant I am pretty sure he's not going to die in the purge.

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:55 (fifteen years ago) link

he's prob goodwin or ethan.

Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:58 (fifteen years ago) link

oh yeah thanks prez keyes

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 5 March 2009 13:59 (fifteen years ago) link

really the only reason i don't think the baby's that important is because there's no male character left who's about charlotte's age or slightly younger whose parents we know nothing about.

although (drunk theory time) maybe the baby is Jacob? could explain why he's trapped in the cabin that his father Horace built. and if Jacob did order the purge, then that could tie in somehow with all the dad-killers on the show.

Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 14:17 (fifteen years ago) link

I think Ethan and/or Goodwin look too old to be that baby.

2nd-place ladyboy (Nicole), Thursday, 5 March 2009 14:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Jacob is one of the only things I wondered about.

What if the baby is one of the Losties? This seems the sort of dumbass twist they might go for, haha.

Local Garda, Thursday, 5 March 2009 14:21 (fifteen years ago) link

"We've decided to name him...Paolo!"

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 14:23 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah and older charlotte's too young. she looked about two in 1974, that would make her 32 in 2004. xxp

Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 14:25 (fifteen years ago) link

She takes care of herself okay

President Keyes, Thursday, 5 March 2009 14:26 (fifteen years ago) link
