Did Hurley still eat that burrito he threw at the wall when he saw Ben? (sorry if it wasn't a burrito)

Maybe they gave him a new burrito in prison.

doh i just realized that ben would be interested in sun because if he was spying on all of them, he would've known she was seeking out Widmore's help.

God that Hot Pocket is the most revolting thing I've ever seen. Is that picture supposed to look appetising?

Alanis Morrisette writing for Lostpedia:
Both Ben Linus and Charles Widmore have people watching all of the Oceanic plane crash survivors off the Island. (Irony)
― President Keyes, Friday, 27 February 2009 18:03 (fifteen years ago) link
would not be surprised if both sun + sayid are in '08 with ben - they're the two who are most involved in the personal war between ben and widmore. whereas the rest seem more like pawns in a larger game involving the island itself.

Preview for next week implies strongly that Sawyer meets up with Kate, but I really doubt it.

The Arrow was one of the stations, I thought.
This was the episode where it struck me that Juliet is much hotter this year. She seems to have given up that puzzled-looking, harsh, and often unsettling facial expression. Sawyer's love has transformed her into a radiant beauty, oh yes, and then Kate shows up on the island looking like a junky. What a crackhead Kate is compared to how beautiful Juliet is now. To think I nearly gave up on this show.

70s juliet was way hotter than island juliet. lol sawyer makes her hot, but only because he loses is own hotness in giving it to her?
― yur twit (tehresa), Thursday, 5 March 2009 04:11 (fifteen years ago) link
He has lost whatever appeal he had.
― swedes put dill on fields of salmon (fields of salmon), Thursday, 5 March 2009 04:19 (fifteen years ago) link
Maybe hotness on the island is a zero sum game? If everyone looks hot at the same time, the island moves.

I liked this episode a lot
Yeah, great stuff. I loved how the "Three Years Later" jump made perfect sense but was still pretty shocking in how it happened.
(also agree 100% on Kate looking like a junkie and Juliet suddenly being way hotter than last year... I think this is intentional, production-wise, since Kate has gotten more and more reprehensible as a character too)
― Nhex, Thursday, 5 March 2009 04:50 (fifteen years ago) link
^^^this. was very happy for juliet and sawyer, stupid jack and kate.
really enjoyed this episode, lots of good bits: the time flash spoiling the four-toed statue reveal, the return of sawyer nicknames, miles calling them out on their Orchid-beach-Orchid-beach plan, the general awesomeness of juliet. and that guy who played Jimmy Barrett on Mad Men is great - i hope he sticks around for a few more episodes.
i wonder when alpert decided to go hippie. and whether he ever washes his one blue shirt + slacks getup.
― Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 06:08 (fifteen years ago) link
sawyer is rehashing his own jokes now ... actually I guess it was supposed to be a lol that he had to change "coconut Internet" to "coconut telegraph" since the Internet wasn't invented. it only took me 4 hours to get it :)
― dmr, Thursday, 5 March 2009 06:33 (fifteen years ago) link
The actress who plays Amy (aka Michelle from 24) is so awesome, I don't know why she isn't in more stuff. I'm glad she's going to be in more than one episode.
It's been obvious since last season's finale that Sawyer and Juliet were going to get together, but now that it's happened I really like it. I hope the writers do something sensible with it rather than dive straight into melodramatic love-quadrangle hell.
Also, have we ever seen Horace before? Because he's a delight, all stumblin' around and throwing dynamite at shit.
― none of that (reddening), Thursday, 5 March 2009 06:43 (fifteen years ago) link
uh yeah a bunch of times dude... Horace was there at Ben's birth, he was the guy who recruited Ben and his dad to Dharma, his ghost appeared to Locke in a dream and led him to Jacob's cabin.
― Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 06:49 (fifteen years ago) link
Woah, I didn't even realize until just now that this means the statue was still standing in 1974 (right? or did I miss a flash?).
― Dan I., Thursday, 5 March 2009 06:57 (fifteen years ago) link
xpost ha, shows what I remember. I blame those jumpsuits, I just assume everyone in the Dharma Initiative is a chill, scruffy-haired hippie.
And I think there was an intervening flash when they saw the statue -- didn't they see it right before the final flash made them all freak out and fall on the ground?
― none of that (reddening), Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:07 (fifteen years ago) link
yep. they saw the statue and miles says that they're at a point wayyyyy before the well was built, then underground locke turns the wheel, there's another flash and the well is back in 1974.
speaking of Ben, where is he? he's supposed to be on the island by now and surely they'd know him if they've been with Dharma for three years.
― Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:11 (fifteen years ago) link
Ben didn't show up on the island he was about 10- or 12-ish? So it might be before then. But yeah, if he was born in the early '60s (this was assumed because his current age was placed around his 40s at some point) he probably should be on the island by now... but who knows, I'm not too sure we're done with the time-jumping at all.
― Nhex, Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:17 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah i think dan is still working on trying to get them back to 2008.
i was just thinking that even if ben wasn't there by 1974, he should have been there by 1977.

oh and jin is like totally fluent now! <3
― Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:28 (fifteen years ago) link
(Re: Ben) Sort of... I got the sense from one of the Darlton interviews that the timeline as we know it is not... completely accurate, especially with regards to these kind of matching relative time placements of events with "real time". This probably means they are rewriting more Lost history on the fly - they spoiled a thing or two I'm not gonna repeat. (And yeah, the three year jump was a good excuse to have Jin a lot more fluent now.)
― Nhex, Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:35 (fifteen years ago) link
This was probably my favorite episode of the season thus far. From a story-telling perspective it just felt nice and relaxed and self-confident.
― ! (Clay), Thursday, 5 March 2009 07:49 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah i thought it was really well-paced. apparently one of the two writers who wrote this episode has only written one other Lost episode, which probably explains all the fan shout-outs - the black rock, buddy with the eyeliner, mr. i see dead people etc.
― Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 08:12 (fifteen years ago) link
lostpedia:
The statue appears to be that of the Egyptian god Horus. Traditional depictions of Horus portray him as carrying an ankh (similar to the ankh necklace seen later in the LaFleur episode). The view of the statue's back seems to show that it is carrying an ankh as well as something in the other hand. Though this is still speculation (because we have only seen the statue's back), the coincidence of a character named Horace who is now carrying an ankh is astounding. Also, the literary references mention multiple authors named Horace.
― Roz, Thursday, 5 March 2009 08:16 (fifteen years ago) link
This somewhat diminishes my prediction that when we finally see the front of the statue, it will have RICHARD'S FACE (complete with obsidian eyeliner).
― none of that (reddening), Thursday, 5 March 2009 08:52 (fifteen years ago) link
glad everyone finally coming around to juliet's hotness. she looks better when she doesn't have hair down and weird domesticated clothes tho
had to lol at sawyer's awful acting in this episode, eg the scene where juliet tells him and jin the baby and mother are fine and he has about 7 seconds in which he alternates between two faces, one smiling "i feel all gooey inside" and one "well ain't that somethin" that stops just short of him slapping his knee.
similarly earlier when he's in the jungle with juliet and they're flirting about the beach plan and his face suddenly turns all "WELL HELLO THERE LITTLE LADY, WALK OVER MY COAT AND DON'T GET THOSE PRETTY FEET DIRTY"
kate looked horrendous for the reunion, sleeveless top and awful chav ponytail thing going on.
definitely feeling some trepidation about the whole love square bullshit that's about to happen.
Horace and Saywers man to man was great. Also "okay, PLATO", lol.

If the 4-toed Statue is of Horus this is interesting (given all the eye shit with Jack and Locke):
The Eye of Horus became an important Egyptian symbol of power. Horus had a man's body and a falcon's head. Horus fought with Set for the throne of Egypt. In this battle one of his eyes was injured and later it was healed by Isis. This healing of the eye became a symbol of renewal. Horus united Egypt and bestowed divinity upon the pharaohs who were viewed as incarnations of Horus in life.
