we'll have all the players in the same place now.

but Lapidus is in the time-stream where the plane actually crashed, not the same as Jin and Kate / Hurley / Jack and whoever else disappeared in the white flash ...

still trying to figure out how Mrs. Hawking can get away with working with both sides of the war (after Locke's revelation Ben now knows that Widmore knows about her). maybe she's a free agent

dmr, Friday, 27 February 2009 14:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Why would Sun be the woman who left with Lapidus? Just because we didn't see her with the other O6 people when they re-crashed?

Yeah, I think Frank went off with a different woman and Sun and Sayid will show up in the same time/place as Jack/Kate/Hugo.

WmC, Friday, 27 February 2009 14:08 (fifteen years ago) link

totally - theyre the chosen

ice cr?m, Friday, 27 February 2009 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost i thought that too but next week's trailer shows a scene where ben is standing creepily behind Sun and we know that ben didn't disappear in the flash. so i think it's still likely that she's the woman who left with Frank. sayid's whereabouts still unknown.

the rest of the season will prob be about trying to get the two camps from 815 back onto the same timeline, whenever that is.

Roz, Friday, 27 February 2009 14:11 (fifteen years ago) link

He's infiltrating? I thought he was captured/brainwashed/forced to comply, or simply help them out to stay alive (ie. he has nobody on the island, in that time)

Occam's Razor time - I think he just applied for a job, dudes. Also he's not the only one there, presumably Sawyer, Juliet, Daniel and Miles are knocking around somewhere as well.

David Bentley: Rhythm Ace (Matt DC), Friday, 27 February 2009 14:14 (fifteen years ago) link

seems dharmad be suspicious if yr already on island looking for a job - maybe juliet used her insider knowledge to infiltrate them

ice cr?m, Friday, 27 February 2009 14:23 (fifteen years ago) link

jin is on the list, i don't think sun is. maybe that's why ben was so shocked when he heard jin was still alive.

cutty, Friday, 27 February 2009 14:36 (fifteen years ago) link

or daniel. since we already know he can use his nebbish-y physicist charm to lie his way through anything. although i think it's prob easy enough for them to grab a bunch of leis, say namaste and pretend they just got off the submarine. xp

Roz, Friday, 27 February 2009 14:36 (fifteen years ago) link

namaste yall where the jumpsuits @

What list are you guys talking about? I feel like I've forgotten something.

David Bentley: Rhythm Ace (Matt DC), Friday, 27 February 2009 14:39 (fifteen years ago) link

i'd love it if we see Jin being handed his uniform and then saying "Workman?!" with some contempt

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 27 February 2009 14:44 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost There's the 815 flight manifest, when they figured out Ethan wasn't on the plane.

Then there's ethan/goodwin's lists that ben asked to make. From those lists, the Others took 13 tailies (including cindy + 2 kids) and claire. and then after capturing Michael, they made another list consisting of Sawyer, Hurley, Kate and Jack.

Pickett says later that Jack isn't even on Jacob's list.

And in the last episode Locke asked to see Ajira's passenger list.

i have no idea which one(s) people are talking about.

Roz, Friday, 27 February 2009 14:49 (fifteen years ago) link

We're still stuck trying to figure out what the deal with Jacob is, whether Alpert's a "free agent," and how the Hawking woman ties into things and whether or not she's actually Daniel's mother. If there's really a war, which seems like an oversimplification, then Hawking/Alpert/Jacob might not be the spoils of war, not really either side.

mh, Friday, 27 February 2009 14:52 (fifteen years ago) link

they should call the show "LIST"

We should have a new list thread for "Things Still To Be Answered on LOST"

how did widmore and co get to the island?

did richard find it with them? or was he already there?

why did ben take the island from charles?

why does ben end up believing everyone must go back (after having killed locke only to tell jack that they'd have to bring him back too)?

how exactly did abbadon come to be locke's orderly in 2003?

why does ben end up believing everyone must go back (after having killed locke only to tell jack that they'd have to bring him back too)?

this one is huge.

Local Garda, Friday, 27 February 2009 15:18 (fifteen years ago) link

I guess it's because Locke told Ben (because Alpert told Locke). Ben is smart enough to accept what Locke says because he's The One, but still wants to get back to the island even though he's not supposed to out of pure venal self-interest.

WmC, Friday, 27 February 2009 15:24 (fifteen years ago) link

I have a feeling Sun wasn't supposed to go back--and therefore doesn't end up with Jack-Kate-Hurley in the '70s. I think Sayyid is back there, but won't show up until he can do a badass reveal.

Maybe that's why Ben was surprised about Jin being alive--only one Korean was needed for whatever is supposed to go down and he thought it was Sun. Explains maybe why he didn't seem that concerned about her until she showed up with a gun. Of course he always has to have a rabbit up his sleeve so he took Jin's ring.

widmore and his people "protected the island for over 30 years", but who from?

outsiders

how did widmore and co get to the island?
British Island Expedition of 1960s

did richard find it with them? or was he already there?
Richard has always been there, even before there was an island.

why did ben take the island from charles?
Ben has always done whatever he wants, whenever he wants, because he's a goal-oriented sociopath.

why does ben end up believing everyone must go back (after having killed locke only to tell jack that they'd have to bring him back too)?
Locke told him about Eloise Hawking, who then told Ben that everyone had to go.

how exactly did abbadon come to be locke's orderly in 2003?
Alpert, Ben, and Widmore either collaboratively or separately having been keeping tabs on Locke since Locke showed up on the island back when Widmore was a solider.

who killed nadia and why?
Ben, to get Sayid to work for him. Or really, anybody since she was an Iraqi dissident at one point.

what's the deal with the temple?
It's where the island's security system, the smoke monster, comes from.

what the fuck is Jacob, smokemonster origin etc.
kooky island shit, built by an army of Alpert clones

bad answers dude sorry

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 27 February 2009 16:21 (fifteen years ago) link

if you think you're going to get anything more straightforward from the show, good luck

mh, Friday, 27 February 2009 16:22 (fifteen years ago) link

like, they'll show Ben kicking Widmore off, or at least convincing him to turn the donkey wheel, but it won't get any more deep than "Jacob told me you have to go" and the prime motivator for Ben to do anyone's will is because he wants to

mh, Friday, 27 February 2009 16:23 (fifteen years ago) link

i do actually think all of those questions will be answered/explained well enough eventually

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 27 February 2009 16:24 (fifteen years ago) link

if Jacob does turn out to be a godly human-ish being of some sort, they're gonna need an actor who is somehow more charismatic and authoritative than Ben, Widmore or Alpert to make us believe that these guys would actually take orders from him.

What is the relationship between the dressing on Claire's head at the tattoo parlor ("Par Avion") and the one on her head in Jacob's cabin ("Cabin Fever")?"

What was the meaning of the dream Claire details in her diary about the "Black Rock" in the Episode ("Special") from Season One?

What were the consequences of Kilo not getting his share from the Jessica con? ("Confidence Man")

I find the "four-toed statue" to be the least interesting unanswered question. Have Lindelof/Cuse indicated that it's a clue to something huge? It's always felt like a kind of goofy throwaway to me. Or maybe I'm just nervous that any extended explanation could be super cringe-y.

Man, I don't envy Lindelof and Cuse. A series finale fuck-up would be like David Chase x infinity for those dudes, press-wise (though I thought the Sopranos ending was awesome).

ice cr?m, Friday, 27 February 2009 17:02 (fifteen years ago) link

The four toed statue is probably linked to whatever is inside the temple, which is also presumably the answer to whatever the point of Smokey is.

Alanis Morrisette writing for Lostpedia:

Both Ben Linus and Charles Widmore have people watching all of the Oceanic plane crash survivors off the Island. (Irony)

President Keyes, Friday, 27 February 2009 18:03 (fifteen years ago) link

would not be surprised if both sun + sayid are in '08 with ben - they're the two who are most involved in the personal war between ben and widmore. whereas the rest seem more like pawns in a larger game involving the island itself.
