flopping limply toward the big finish

^^crazy.

this episode was all whaaaaaaaaaat.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 07:47 (fifteen years ago) link

am upset that Lt. Daniels was real and not a creepy island apparition.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 07:53 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm more upset that he totally went out like a punk and we're probably not gonna get any more back story on him (likely due to the actor being a main cast member of Fringe).

Nhex, Thursday, 26 February 2009 07:57 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah that too. but we don't really need any more backstories on anybody tbh - dude "who makes sure people get where they need to go" is enough for me.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 08:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Locke episodes are always fantastic and this was no exception.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 26 February 2009 09:09 (fifteen years ago) link

thinking we won't see walt again, this was kind of a graceful way to finish his story, even though he is a lot of loose ends. but I'm super confused about ben's relationship to eloise, why he killed john after hearing him mention her, etc.

akm, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Probably he just needed to get that piece of information from him, since he wasn't sure himself how to find the island again.

Kate/Locke scene was aces -- "Look how far you've come!"

lolling through my bagel (Pancakes Hackman), Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:34 (fifteen years ago) link

Terry O Quinn, so great this ep. The bit where Locke's preparing to hang himself was deeply upsetting.

yeah it's quite possible that Ben didn't know that Eloise was in LA. On the other hand, Eloise seems like a free agent - both Widmore and Ben know her but it's not clear whose side she's on or if she's on any side at all.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Love Locke's efforts to convince people.

*resigned pause*

"... we have to go back!"

I was really holding out for a "dont tell me what I cant do!" redux.

Suedey 2, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:50 (fifteen years ago) link

this was a great episode. very enjoyable. ben killing locke def took me by surprise, as did the last scene.

cutty, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:52 (fifteen years ago) link

goddamn ben. can't wait for the scene where Locke will be all "asshole you killed me!!" and Ben will be all "But you were supposed to die anyway and i got you back here rite?" and Locke is all >_<

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:03 (fifteen years ago) link

dude "who makes sure people get where they need to go" is enough for me.

was initially pissed off cos want to know exactly how he came to be the one to tell Locke to go on the walkabout but i guess this was just down to Widmore remembering him, figuring he was important and having Abbadon find him - that's a bit of a stretch tho. may see Abbadon again anyway.

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:08 (fifteen years ago) link

was lance reddick really the guy who told him to go on a walkabout?

cutty, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:09 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah. the episode where he was pushed out the window.

Widmore didn't just remember him i think - if it's true that he was on the island for 30 years, he must have known about Alpert keeping tabs on Locke since he was born.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:12 (fifteen years ago) link

really confused by Ben's actions tho. he wanted to save Locke from death because he felt he was the only one who could convince the O6 to go back - the only reason Ben wants the O6 to go back is because it's Jacob's will? but once he learns Eloise is out there he doesn't need Locke anymore why not?

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:16 (fifteen years ago) link

need a Ben flashback.

my current theory is that Ben doesn't really care about Jack, Sayid etc, he just wants to get back to the island but he doesn't know how. So he keeps tabs on the O6 knowing that if any of them had business left on the island, someone would eventually come looking for them with a way to get back. Locke mentions Eloise, and I guess that was all Ben needed to know.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:27 (fifteen years ago) link

I think he just wanted to forestall Locke's death long enough to pump all the info he could out of him so that he could figure out a way to go back too. He wasn't supposed to go back with the O6 (or 5), evidenced by the fact that he's on a cot with the crash survivors instead of magically beamed down with Jack/Kate/Hurley/etc.

WmC, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:30 (fifteen years ago) link

there's a few ways i would've liked to have seen this play out better. it might've been cool if it had started with Jack racing down hospital ward to the person just brought in, only to realise it was Locke, for example. was also hoping Locke would appear somewhere different to where Ben did (no big deal tho).

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:34 (fifteen years ago) link

it's not too clear if all of the O5 did end up in Dharmaland though. The new lady also said that Lapidus took off with a woman - Sun? No idea where Sayid is either. xp

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:38 (fifteen years ago) link

also thought it was great that Locke figured out that Christian was Jack's dad.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:39 (fifteen years ago) link

I wonder if Frank feels complete now that he's crash-landed a plane on the island.

I think I've given up on deciding whether Ben or Widmore is the biggest asshole. Now, I am completely expecting an eleventh hour reveal showing us that Alpert is actually the biggest asshole.

mh, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:40 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah was the plane pretty much completely intact? i guess they won't be hearing any smokemonster tho (are they on the other side of the island and was Locke looking out at the other island early on?)

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:42 (fifteen years ago) link

argh lostpedia hasn't updated yet

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:44 (fifteen years ago) link

it looked like they might have landed on the Hydra island actually.

Lostpedia is having issues - no one's been able to update the wiki at all today.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:48 (fifteen years ago) link

it seemed like ben was more startled by the idea that jin is still alive, and that was when he decided to kill locke ... by the time the eloise revelation came out, it seemed like ben was already preparing to kill locke. but i'm not sure why the jin revelation would be such a big deal to ben

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Maybe because he thought it meant Michael wasn't successful in blowing up the freighter for him?

lolling through my bagel (Pancakes Hackman), Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:51 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe cause locke said he wouldnt bring sun back so the only way to get her back is if lockes dead

ice cr?m, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Was that the end of Walt on the show? It seems like a big plot hole that he has huge telekinetic abilities and is important to the island somehow, but it's no big deal if he comes back or not...?

2nd-place ladyboy (Nicole), Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Had Locke told Ben that he was told he had to die before Ben killed him? It's possible Ben knew from some other way, but I really don't think he had been told that part...

mh, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:00 (fifteen years ago) link

the only visible point of the Walt scene was to show that Ben was spying on Locke i guess. but yeah he surely has to come back into it at some point. ISLAND NEED MOAR DEAD BIRDS.

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:09 (fifteen years ago) link

ya i'm really hoping that Walt mentioning that he had been dreaming of Locke and the island means he still has some part to play.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:12 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't think we'll see him again.

WmC, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:15 (fifteen years ago) link

yah that seemd like a write off 2 me

ice cr?m, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:17 (fifteen years ago) link

best part of the episode for me was widmore and locke. widmore asking how long ago it was when they met. loved it.

cutty, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:22 (fifteen years ago) link

i dunno why Ben even bothered trying to kill Locke again, not like it worked the first time.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:32 (fifteen years ago) link

He wasn't protected by the island this time, though.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Ultimately, he was.

WmC, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

not being on the island didn't stop it from preventing Michael/Jack from killing themselves. still not sure why Locke had to die to bring everyone back anyway.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:42 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i think i'd have preferred it if Locke wasn't supposed to die, that it had been an accident or whatever and so there was greater sense of 'oh fuck how can we save the island now' uncertainty from everyone (including Richard)

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link

hah, I had forgotten that he'd already tried to kill Locke once

mh, Thursday, 26 February 2009 17:16 (fifteen years ago) link

lol if we're following Locke's timeline - Ben tried to kill him the first time less than a month before. poor guy.

Roz, Thursday, 26 February 2009 17:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Off-island timeline is kind of fucked. Jack's encounter with Locke in the hospital prompts him to book a flight from L.A. to Sydney to get back to the island, but this is only a few days before Locke's obit would have appeared in the paper, and we had been led to believe that Jack had been flying back and forth on Oceanic for weeks or months before Locke died.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 26 February 2009 17:29 (fifteen years ago) link

I thought it was weird that there were a bunch of cameras set up at the spot in Tunisia, but not when Ben arrived there, even though Ben and John left the island, at most, one week apart. Both of them landed three years in the future or so. Did something change within the short amount of time between Ben and Locke's arrivals? That setup didn't look new to me.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 26 February 2009 17:37 (fifteen years ago) link

I had that thought too. Locke had to have some travel time though, right? Maybe between the accident, getting out of the hospital, and his funeral, there's a time gap. Otherwise, how is Jack going to be all beardo by the time he goes to Locke's funeral and already a drug-soaked mess?

mh, Thursday, 26 February 2009 17:38 (fifteen years ago) link

xp I thought Ben arrived shortly after the Oceanic 6, with time to fuck around and manipulate Sayid, do random shit, and be menacing for a while.

mh, Thursday, 26 February 2009 17:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Both of them landed three years in the future or so.

Not true. Here's the scene where he arrives at the hotel in Tunisia:

BEN: Yes. Um, today's date is...

NARJISS: October 24th, sir.

BEN: (Embarrassedly) 2005?

NARJISS: Yes, sir. 2005.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 26 February 2009 17:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh I see. Thanks, that was confusing me.

I guess Widmore has been busy in Tunisia since then.
