Jack put White shoes on Christian's corpse and Black ones on Locke's.

yeah there is some whole theory of the shoes on some of the blogs but I don't really know what it's about. the last time Christian appeared to jack (in the hospital sometime) people were like "and once again Christian has on the white shoes"

After seeing Jesus alive and being offered the opportunity to touch his wounds — according to the author of the Gospel of John — Thomas professed his faith in Jesus; on this account he is also called Thomas the Believer.

missed this.. nice one!

I am thinking that maybe Sayid was cuffed because Ben went to go convince him to come along and suffered the "unfortunate consequences" Sayid mentioned..

I also love & subscribe to the idea that Juliet may be the very person she's told she "looks just like" in Ben's childhood thanks to them being new Dharma recruits... I wonder if Charlotte died because she couldn't exist for long as two copies (young girl & adult) on the island?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 19 February 2009 16:17 (fifteen years ago) link

The thing that didn't make sense-- why did they have to recreate the conditions of the original crash? It seems like vehicles are crashing in to island all the time. Do all of them have a junkie hobbit, an incestuous bro-sis team, a priest/drug warlord, etc?

think they needed this so that the island could recognize the ones who should never have left and drop them in the correct timeline - all the other 815-ers are in the 70s. If Ajira Airways did crash, i think it prob crashed on the island in 2007.

I'm hoping we see Juliette teaching baby Ben to read soon.

the stuff that gets glossed over is annoying, but at the same time, this was the most straighforward and explanatory episode in ages, and that was kind of annoying too. Having Eloise come in and tell everyone what is going on was too blatant, I don't care for characters as mouthpieces for the writers. I kind of like it when I don't know what is going on and there is still a lot of mystery; when things start getting pulled together, I feel the hands of the producers too clearly.

akm, Thursday, 19 February 2009 17:28 (fifteen years ago) link

When Ben got jealous that Eloise kept Jack "after class" I expected Ben to shoot him and dump him in a pit of corpses.

President Keyes, Thursday, 19 February 2009 17:36 (fifteen years ago) link

I think Roz is on the money re: Ben's whereabouts during the phone call - the payphone he's on is at a sailboat harbor - but he probably went down there to harm Penny and got his ass kicked by Des for it...

mikebee (BATTAGS), Thursday, 19 February 2009 18:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Considering how easily Ben dispatched those dudes in the desert, I find it hard to believe that Desmond could beat up Ben.

no telescoping truncheon, no credibility :)

mikebee (BATTAGS), Thursday, 19 February 2009 18:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Ben's been very willing to get beaten up if it means getting something done (he spent most of last season either getting tied up or beaten up). killing Penny would give good reason for Des to return to the island - revenge.

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 19 February 2009 18:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, I'm afraid Penny's dead, but what about baby Charlie? Des will become Man on Fire and Widmore, formerly his enemy, will help him get back to the island to stick C4 up Ben's ass.

WmC, Thursday, 19 February 2009 18:32 (fifteen years ago) link

what was it time lady was saying, all that "Stop asking questions and just believe" nonsense. It's like are you talking to Jack here or just directly to the audience at this point, ugh.

if only she'd just given the slightest glance to camera

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 19 February 2009 18:33 (fifteen years ago) link

or done the Dr Hibbert/Chief Wiggum thing (we think she's looking at us but camera pulls back to show Jack "OK...for some reason you've convinced me")

Jack is an IDIOT and should've asked Eleanor if she knows/gives a fuck where Daniel is (in 2008).

When Jack refused to read the suicide note I was like OMG HAVE YOU NOT SEEN BACK TO THE FUTURE YOU ASSHOLE.

Eleanor? Elouise sorry

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 19 February 2009 18:39 (fifteen years ago) link

hell desmond should've asked her that, considering what he knows about both her and her son. instead he just yells at her.

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 19 February 2009 18:41 (fifteen years ago) link

also the suicide note was LAAAMMMME. the island just wanted to know you're an asshole jack.

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 19 February 2009 18:43 (fifteen years ago) link

you to know*

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 19 February 2009 18:43 (fifteen years ago) link

I think it's just as likely that Ben got beaten down by Widmore's goons--who have presumably been following Des & Pen since Den burst into Widmore's office. I'm sure Ben went there armed--expecting to have to confront Des at least.

Parts of this ep. played like a parody of Lost-- "You can never ask me about Aaron." "Okay."
Jack not reading the note. Frank not doing anything after he figured out something was up.

President Keyes, Thursday, 19 February 2009 19:19 (fifteen years ago) link

i wonder if the reason this episode seems so sloppy is because they originally planned to show The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham first and then decided to switch?

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 19 February 2009 20:24 (fifteen years ago) link

so they are back on the island

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 February 2009 20:31 (fifteen years ago) link

did anyone else's sound cut out when jack was in the airport passing by and speaking to that hispanic guy?

roger b cushman (jergins), Thursday, 19 February 2009 20:32 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm incredibly curious to see if you're right Roz - but then it looks like a bunch of the people casually introduced in this episode (the cop escorting Sayid, that dude from Three Kings who talked to Jack at the airport) are going to be in it next week. I still loved this episode though - most of that vague stuff I'm sure will be filled in with flashbacks for the rest of the season. Really psyched!

Also, man, I really, really hope Penny isn't dead. Oh Ben, what a motherfucking card!

i wonder if the O6 got transported back in time and the plane crashed on the present day island

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:22 (fifteen years ago) link

that makes sense

conrad, Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:24 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm thinking that the plane didn't crash somehow.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:28 (fifteen years ago) link

liek it flew on and the O6 just disappeared - def the three kings guy is gonna be on the island

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:35 (fifteen years ago) link

and prob the captain too unless he was just thrown in for weirdness sake

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:35 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah they wouldn't put in the three kings/huckabees/la haine guy just for him to fly on

conrad, Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Assuming that the plane doesn't crash (and it certainly might), I think Ben/Widmore may have arranged a few more extra passengers on this flight, as with the tanker. Three Kings guy and Sayid's captor are likely to both be on the island. I could see Frank somehow not being involved, considering how little time he has spent on the island.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:50 (fifteen years ago) link

ohhhhh considering how little time you THINK he's spent on the island ohhh

conrad, Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah this episode was so intentionally sloppy and full of holes, so we can get flashbacks for Hurley, Sayid, Sun and Kate (possibly all in one episode?) But I'm pretty sure the reason Sayid is in cuffs is because, well, he's a fucking serial killer now.

I think Frank knew he was supposed to be on the plane the first time, maybe he's been looking to get back as well somehow? Des is clearly on a boat somewhere as well, but yeah RIP Penny I fear.

Ben got the best line this time as well, when Jack asked what was going to happen to the other people on the plane and he replied "who cares?"

I'm starting to work out the names of the Dharma stations as well - the Lamppost is the entry point to Narnia in the Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe, the Looking Glass and the Tempest are both entry points to magical worlds as well. Not sure about the others.

I'm wondering where the hell Ben went after the plane crashed. Surely he can't spend all that time running round at the same time as his childhood self? I like the Juliet theory though. I'm wondering if Jin and Sun are part of the reason Charlotte could speak Korean. Actually, fuck the off-island flashbacks, I want to see the Dharma stuff.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:53 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm kind of bothered by the explanation that the island is "always moving." I guess we have to assume that the Others always had a way to find it when they made off-island excursions (e.g., Alpert in Portland, Tom in New York). But did they have to recreate the conditions of their arrival, too? Also, how are we supposed to interpret Jacob's instruction to Locke to move the island? Why would this be necessary if the island was already moving?

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:53 (fifteen years ago) link

the donkey wheel moves the island in time and its always moving in space much like the mirror matter theory we discussed last season

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:57 (fifteen years ago) link

If the island is always moving in space, how come the freighter didn't move with the island / how come the freighter could stay in contact with the island?

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 19 February 2009 21:58 (fifteen years ago) link

i guess when the island moves through space it moves some water w/it -- but when it moves through time it moves less water w/it

loooooool

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 February 2009 22:02 (fifteen years ago) link

the donkey wheel moves the island in time

OK, but

1. When Ben turned the FDW, the island also physically disappeared from the ocean (we saw the ripple).
2. I thought it was just the Losties that were going back in time, not the island itself.

Of course, if it is the island going back in time, and it is always moving, then it physically moved because it went back to a time when it was somewhere else.

I think the Purple Sky event changed a lot of stuff - it seemed that suddenly the island was exposed to the outside world and more discoverable (well, by people who don't have pendulum rooms). Was Desmond/Lex Luthor pushing the button keeping the island in place thanks to Dharma technology? Have to wonder if we'll ever get a concrete answer on that one, but probably not.

But I'm pretty sure the reason Sayid is in cuffs is because, well, he's a fucking serial killer now.

LOL!

When the island moves, Sawyer says that the freighter disappeared, that it was still smoking and visible right before they moved.

will all the literary allusions turn out to be anything more than, well, hints and shading? Ulysses, Third Policeman, what else?

akm, Thursday, 19 February 2009 22:21 (fifteen years ago) link

I think it's just hints and easter eggs for the dedicated. also shout-outs to the writers' sci-fi inspirations.

Valis, Wizard of Oz, The Little Prince, Borges, there's been tons

I think the Purple Sky event changed a lot of stuff - it seemed that suddenly the island was exposed to the outside world and more discoverable

Yeah, I think this is true.

So let's suppose the island was always moving up until Desmond turned the failsafe key. Then it stopped moving and was discoverable by Widmore and Penny. (But the 815 survivors weren't rescued because no one was looking for them anymore.) So Jacob told Locke to turn the wheel to get it moving again, which had the incidental effect of making the islanders jump through time.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 19 February 2009 22:41 (fifteen years ago) link

sounds pretty good - the time traveling i imagine under that scenario wouldnt be incidental tho

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 February 2009 22:50 (fifteen years ago) link

they were jumping through time because the wheel was off its axis. then when locke fixed it they stopped wherever they were at that moment (1970s apparently)
