GAME OF THROOOOOOONES

polyphonic, Monday, 3 June 2013 17:56 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, it was too hectic

there was just too much going on there, they should have slowed things down there and made it less exciting, maybe split that scene out over a few episodes, or maybe have a character hide behind a table for a few minutes and talk about what was happening and why it was so unexpected and scurry

smh at the way they did that

My wife, not in the book reading contingent but probably a more rabid fan of the TV series than I am, had a pretty great reaction. At the shot of Caetlyn looking up at the band, her hand shot over and grabbed my arm with a white knuckle grip, "what the fuck is going to happen?". Then she let out a muted scream when the guy went after Talisa. Later she claimed it wasn't as "devastating" as the Ned Start season 1 scene, but it seemed to get a pretty visceral reaction from her.

Somehow, despite all the groundwork they did with the song "The Rains of Castamere" (Cersei's discussion of it, Thoros singing it, playing it at the end of the battle of Blackwater episode, Tyrion talking about it, using it as the Lannister leitmotif in the score, using it as the TITLE of the episode ... I still didn't know what song they were playing. Haha.

Mr Veg was laughing at me by the end, I yelled NO when robb & catelyn were first hit, then a series of NNOOOOOOs when Robb's wolf and Robb got it, and then just a quiet mournful 'oh no' with Catelyn's ending

Grey Worm has sick fighting skills and he moves with such grace. I hope there is more of him in the next season.

For real, I don't know what they were expecting rolling up into Walder Frey's castle like he would be all nbd that Robb dissed him. Still, the slaughter was shocking. I expected hostilities and draw swords, but...damn. Catelyn's desperation at the end was affecting. At first I found her annoyingly long-suffering & righteous, but reading the first book made me appreciate her a lot more.

It will never happen, but part of me wishes Tyrion will turn Sansa into sex freak. I mostly just want to see more Tyrion sexy scenes. I fear for he & Shae, though. Also, please more Petyr Baelish & Viserys.

emilys., Monday, 3 June 2013 21:12 (eleven years ago) link

omg i can't begin to imagine what kind of kinky sansa/tyrion fanfic is out there. or if there is none, you need to write some.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Monday, 3 June 2013 21:16 (eleven years ago) link

I think maybe it's just that I want Sansa to become interesting and stop being such a dumbo.

emilys., Monday, 3 June 2013 21:34 (eleven years ago) link

sansa is pretty much a typical teenaged girl. she was soooo stoked at the promise of being betrothed to loras. she's wising up slowly. in season 1 she was truly awful.

i far prefer the joffrey/sansa/tyrell/tywin stuff to this week's gang, though now most of them are dead i guess there won't be as much about them.

... (LocalGarda), Monday, 3 June 2013 22:41 (eleven years ago) link

still obv a good episode, i think the hype had made me expect something weirder, or an entire episode of shocks, i wasn't spoiled beforehand but knowing something crazy was going to happen deflated it a bit.

he's slowly taking on an "old gill" from the simpsons physicality. also that bloke looks ridiculous, i thought wwe wrestler, but princess bride cheeseball is a good description.

i'd thought the big scene i'd been bracing myself for was jon snow getting his eyes pecked out at first. bit confusing

all the pure interweb shock seems a teensy bit exaggerated considering the overegged marital bliss + doors shutting + caetlyn ruh-roh scene before

roose bolton was superb as said. i don't even know how well he tallies with the book character but he always seemed like great casting the first moment you laid eyes on him

Just rewatched the last ten minutes. Another great detail is a shot of Frey relishing a gulp of wine as the slaughter unfolds.
