AWESOME THEORY TIME - Ben knows so much about the castaways, and how to push their buttons, because he has met them all before, years ago, back in the Dharma days. I think the remaining survivors are probably stuck at some point during the time of the Dharma Initiative and we're going to see quite a lot of younger Ben over the rest of the series.

There are some pretty big holes in this theory but I am going to will them away by not thinking about them too much.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Sunday, 15 February 2009 16:57 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah wasn't too wild about french guy's arm coming off and jin time travelling to see the arm still lying there but now it's old and then getting to the beach to see rousseau shoot her boyf fuck dat

nice to see and hear the smoke monster again though

i liked this... you have to show jin realizing what's going on somehow, or at least getting a clue that he's time-jumping.

i posted this before, but when i thought the arm time-traveled with jin iwas like AWESEOMOESLGDKJLSKDGJ

I was thinking something like this--if the O6-x return to the island back in the Dharma days old Ben tells young Ben how to convince Richard that he should be the leader--creating a second self-fulfilling leader loop.

That first beach scene made me think "poor Jin, he spends all that time learning English and ends up with a load of people talking French to one another".

Dude--was that Hurley's voice saying the numbers on the transmission?

― President Keyes, Wednesday, February 11, 2009 9:05 PM (5 days ago

No one has replied this yet but people on other boards are also saying they think it sounded like Hurley.

President Keyes, Monday, 16 February 2009 13:15 (fifteen years ago) link

What transmission? The one the French dudes heard? I must have missed that bit, maybe try again.

It would be awesome if Hurley had put the numbers there in the first place, Moebius-tastic.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Monday, 16 February 2009 13:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, the Frenchies picked it up at the beginning of the episode--presumably it was the same one Hurley's nuthouse friend heard while at sea.

President Keyes, Monday, 16 February 2009 13:53 (fifteen years ago) link

i listened again and it doesn't really sound like Hurley to me? :/

French dudes were pretty hot though, too bad they had to die so quickly. Also it bothered me that none of them looked 1988 enough.

thread keeps coming back to this for some reason—i really fucking hope they DONT pull this kind of shit

s1ocki, Monday, 16 February 2009 14:50 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah tbh I really amn't looking forward to jack and kate being adam and eve and think that shit is dumb

Local Garda, Monday, 16 February 2009 14:54 (fifteen years ago) link

sawyer and juliet, guys

mh, Monday, 16 February 2009 15:00 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah the time-loop thing is great for Locke and his Other leader self-fulfilling prophecy but otherwise it just seems gimmicky. Also if it is jack and kate, he can't have kept the two stones he found all that time right? meh.

Disco/Very (Roz), Monday, 16 February 2009 15:07 (fifteen years ago) link

more gimmicky than a wheel that changes time?

^^ one of enriques sincere posts (special guest stars mark bronson), Monday, 16 February 2009 15:08 (fifteen years ago) link

the adam & eve thing is different. im talking about a guy knowing a thing cuz he himself told him that thing and so on

s1ocki, Monday, 16 February 2009 15:08 (fifteen years ago) link

nothing wrong with gimmicks as long as they're good... moebius thing is flimsy and lame imo

s1ocki, Monday, 16 February 2009 15:09 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm not a fan of the adam and eve thing really, seems a bit too perfect to me, but let's see what they do with it i guess.

Local Garda, Monday, 16 February 2009 15:09 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe it will be the actual adam and eve.

^^ one of enriques sincere posts (special guest stars mark bronson), Monday, 16 February 2009 15:10 (fifteen years ago) link

for better or worse im feeling like moebius time loop is how its gonna play out

ice cr?m, Monday, 16 February 2009 15:11 (fifteen years ago) link

i will complain about it on the internet if that happens

s1ocki, Monday, 16 February 2009 15:11 (fifteen years ago) link

yes it is gimmicky. maybe because a wheel that changes time is kind of whoa-crazy and external to the characters, whereas all the other time-loop theories is directly related to them suggesting that they really have no control over their life at all and that it's all been predetermined. Which is totally boring from a story/character perspective.

Disco/Very (Roz), Monday, 16 February 2009 15:12 (fifteen years ago) link

theres def going to be a BUT WE CAN CONTROL OUR LIVES NOTHING HAS BEEN DECIDED aspect as evidenced by desmond

so is mrs hawking's church a dharma related building then? the computers seem similar in the episodes so far.

She seems to have Others and Widmore ties--I don't know about Dharma though.

Who thinks the island would've been moving through time every 108 minutes if Desmond wasn't down there punching in the code?

Ben's mother died in childbirth. Was he just being a smartass, or is there something to it?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 19 February 2009 03:10 (fifteen years ago) link

I wondered that about Ben's mother too. It's possible that someone else helped raise him besides his alcoholic father, and that's who he's referring to.

I shall always respect my elders (Z S), Thursday, 19 February 2009 03:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Beardless Frank is unnerving.

Dharma Jin is in a newish van and clean jumpsuit, so they're in the 70s right now, right?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 19 February 2009 03:17 (fifteen years ago) link

I think he was just being an ass.

Looking forward to finding out how Hurley was convinced (threats to his parents probably), what happened to Aaron, what the Sayid-in-custody story is. But I hope they keep it brief.

xpost, yeah (70s).

WmC, Thursday, 19 February 2009 03:18 (fifteen years ago) link

So let me get this straight: Sun demands that Ben tell her how he knows that Jin is alive or she will kill him. Ben promises he can prove it to her and drives her to Ms. Hawking, who says they all need to go back to the island but doesn't mention anything about who's still on the island. Instead of asking about Jin or following through on her threat to Ben, who has clearly proven nothing, Sun just wanders away.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 19 February 2009 03:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, that was pretty clumsy.

WmC, Thursday, 19 February 2009 03:19 (fifteen years ago) link

Most of this episode was clearly left vague so they can fill things in over the next howevermany weeks.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 19 February 2009 03:20 (fifteen years ago) link

i thought the guy from "la haine" was on it before but i was getting the episode where sayid infiltrates the terrorists in australia mixed up with that don cheadle movie "traitor".

LaMonte, Thursday, 19 February 2009 03:34 (fifteen years ago) link

also, jack asks ben about how he knows mrs. hawking, ben mumbles something about faith and jack doesn't follow up.

abanana, Thursday, 19 February 2009 03:39 (fifteen years ago) link

speaking of not following up.. does anyone ever ask Ben or anyone what the purpose of the dharma initiative is or why they have to return to the island etc..

seems like those sort of things would be asked a lot every season.... but no... apparently the lost survivors don't care.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 19 February 2009 04:18 (fifteen years ago) link

no one even asks ben how he got beaten up, so forget about the bigger questions. the O6 are a bunch of idiots.

so recreating flight 815 with proxies huh - hurley was reading comics (Walt) and carrying a guitar case (Charlie), sayid seemed to have been escorted by a US marshal (like Kate), and who wants to bet that Kate is pregnant (Claire)? Hurley doesn't really need anyone to convince him to go back btw, island hallucinations do it for him.

theory of the week: stuck-in-the-70s Juliet helped raise Ben, which is why the Others' therapist lady told her "You look just like her" and why Ben is so attached to her.

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 19 February 2009 05:26 (fifteen years ago) link

where is Walt anyway?

yikes that line. because I thought at first that Ben got beaten up by Charles Widmore, but now I just got a sickening feeling that he killed Penny, and it was Desmond who beat him up. :( :(
