i will be hell of mad if it all turns out to be 1) hurley being crazy 2) theyre all dead

max, Friday, 13 February 2009 02:02 (fifteen years ago) link

i will also be disappointed if ben doesnt give a 3-4 minute extended hammy monologue explaining the island

max, Friday, 13 February 2009 02:04 (fifteen years ago) link

"what's the island, jack? what is the island? what is.... time?"

max, Friday, 13 February 2009 02:04 (fifteen years ago) link

there is no way they are going to pull some hack meta ending like that at this point; that's the sort of thing that was "whoa WTF" when St. Elsewhere did it but has not been anything but a cop out since.

akm, Friday, 13 February 2009 04:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, shit...thanks for blowing the end of St. Elsewhere for me!

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 February 2009 04:39 (fifteen years ago) link

right!?

Does Ben even know who Desmond is?

I assume he does because Juliet knew who Des was, plus the Others were probably monitoring him in the Swan through the Pearl hatch. Also they stole his Elizabeth boat.

Ben and Des have had exactly one scene together where they didn't speak to each other at all - the one at the start of season 4 when Des comes back to tell the castaways about Not Penny's Boat and Jack tries to kill Locke.

i will be hell of mad if it all turns out to be 1) hurley being crazy 2) theyre all dead

Producers have said that neither of these will happen. Island is also not a snowglobe. :)

Still leaves the "Faraday is Stephen J Cannell" theory wide open.

James Mitchell, Friday, 13 February 2009 07:12 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah but i think the thing is this is a memory like the sudden "thing that daniel told me outside the hatch" desmond memory, where obv daniel has broken the rules and broken into desmonds past timestream or whatever. for whatever unstuck in time reason, daniel is able to change the past/future in some ways (although it looks like this one doesn't work out for him so well.)

Maybe this is why Desmond is special? He's the only one so far who has correctly remembered meeting a time-jumper.

Everybody else just don't seem to remember meeting them - no indication that Widmore remembered meeting Faraday (or Ethan meeting Locke, Danielle meeting Jin). Charlotte only remembers Daniel after her brain has started time-jumping through her past. Also the first time Daniel and Desmond met, Daniel himself didn't remember meeting Des in 1996 until he looked through his notebook. Maybe the island wipes people's memories after the time-jumpers been gone for a while.

"what's the island, jack? what is the island? what is.... time?"

lol, yeah this needs to happen.

"when a newborn baby cries jack.....THAT'S the island. the first beer after a hard day thatching a roof at your grandma's house in Kentucky, THAT'S the island. the SMELL of freshly cut grass! the first cuckoo!"

i think guy playing ben is just the right actor for a speech like that

max, Friday, 13 February 2009 11:41 (fifteen years ago) link

loved it when Ben slammed the brakes on the van to have a go at Sun and Jack as if they were his two mischeivous kids. "Right that's it, I'm turning around!"

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 11:43 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah I was thinking a sort of "wrap up the series" speech. you know, we laughed, we cried, but we were always LOST.

Local Garda, Friday, 13 February 2009 11:45 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah I wasn't too impressed with them not bothering to get all of them back. Still at least whiney Kate's been left out.

It was hinted in the second episode that they have a fairly short window of opportunity - like the magic time door back to the Island will close at some point. So they can get Sun, Jack and Desmond back then and sort out the others later. Although Desmond will have to be sent back kicking and screaming - is he part of the plan or is it just the O6? I think if anyone has a big interest in getting him back to the island it's Daniel.

My favourite bit of this episode was Ben flipping out at Jack and Sun and doing his "you don't fucking appreciate all I've done for you, you ungrateful bastards!" flounce.

this. :D

I wanna see what Des will say to Ms. Hawking - he totally recognized her.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 13 February 2009 11:57 (fifteen years ago) link

srsly tho why the fuck are they in a church?

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 11:59 (fifteen years ago) link

the island wants it

max, Friday, 13 February 2009 12:00 (fifteen years ago) link

should've all met up at Hooters

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 12:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Everybody else just don't seem to remember meeting them - no indication that Widmore remembered meeting Faraday (or Ethan meeting Locke, Danielle meeting Jin).

Well, when Faraday/Locke/etc. met the 50s Others, Alpert & crew seemed to have no knowledge of time travel--yet in the 00s three of the Others who met the time flashers (Ellie/Eloise, Widmore & Alpert) are all doing time related stuff-- Alpert visiting young Locke, just like LOcke told him to do, Widmore funding Faraday's research into time, Ellie making pendulum art & bossing Desmond around in time. Seems to me that they must remember meeting the 815ers back in the 50s, which kicked off their interest in time travel.

President Keyes, Friday, 13 February 2009 12:02 (fifteen years ago) link

i was thinking that maybe it started with the Dharma Initiative rather than the 815-ers.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 13 February 2009 12:03 (fifteen years ago) link

The church location for Eloise the Time Monk kind of struck me as a nod to John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness, with all the wacky science experimentation being done in a church, but I'm probably really, really overreading it.

so how long before "the island" takes control of locke's dead body

i am psyched for Locke off-island pre-dying scenes

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:03 (fifteen years ago) link

ya i feel like they're saving a lot of big reveals for that

s1ocki, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:04 (fifteen years ago) link

the episode after next week is the locke off island one I think

Local Garda, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:13 (fifteen years ago) link

tbh i would be ok if ben made some kind of semi-revelatory monlogue every episode. i love that dude.

max, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:39 (fifteen years ago) link

he seems so bored with all this 'going back bla bla bla' right now. like every line he delivers is going through the motions. the boredness in his delivery has been a+

lucky girl LOL (tehresa), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:42 (fifteen years ago) link

i like the idea that were never going to figure out the island because ben cant be bothered to actually explain it to everyone

max, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:42 (fifteen years ago) link

sometimes it disturbs me how much ben is my favourite

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:43 (fifteen years ago) link

i hope that locke's journey back is soundtracked by big's "going back to cali"

s1ocki, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:44 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^^^^^^

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:44 (fifteen years ago) link

"It was when he said, 'Got any milk?' after that reveal. We both knew he was a keeper. There's something so incredibly unsettling about his eyes," Lindeloff says. "We used to be really specific in our scripts but now we just write for Ben to look at so-and-so with 'those eyes.' "

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:00 (fifteen years ago) link

i dunno if he can top the Hurley flying burrito incident

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:02 (fifteen years ago) link

ben rules, best character hands down

s1ocki, Friday, 13 February 2009 16:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Ben last season >>>> Ben this season though. There's a certain ambiguity taken out of Ben's character now we more-or-less know that he needs to get everyone back for a good reason.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:09 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm sure he'll find some new reason to be a dick to them once they all get back

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:16 (fifteen years ago) link

i dunno im enjoying the payoff and seeing him get annoyed that they still dont trust him

s1ocki, Friday, 13 February 2009 16:17 (fifteen years ago) link

loved Jack's "oh, of course" look when Ben fed him that "John didn't come to see me, I went to see him" line.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:21 (fifteen years ago) link

i wish Jack had done his full-on 'OK what the fuck is your deal' act at that point. head bobbling all over the place.

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Later, at dinner:

Jack "I thought you said you didn't want fries with that?"
Ben "That's right, I wanted THAT with my fries"

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link

So hang on, The Life And Death Of Jeremy Bentham is the next episode, right? I'm guessing no on-island action at all next week.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link

next episode is '316'

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:27 (fifteen years ago) link

i wish Jack had done his full-on 'OK what the fuck is your deal' act at that point. head bobbling all over the place.

he's still reeling from the meds. just wait til he gets back on the island, it's gonna be full on head bobbling Jackface all day.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:28 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm hoping 316 refers to the year 316 but i doubt it.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Widmore's fake plane i thought, but guess not judging by trailer

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:30 (fifteen years ago) link

ah ok. i hadn't seen the trailer for next week.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:31 (fifteen years ago) link

is there going to be a connection btw the statue and the ppl speaking latin?

max, Friday, 13 February 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm kind of wondering what the point of Jack will be once he gets back to the island. They must have something lined up for him... maybe a face-off with Christian at some point.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

''I've always believed part of what was destroying him was his lack of physical proximity to the Island,'' says Fox. ''He is fated to do something on the Island, and he has fought that with every fiber of his body, and in doing that, the Island is destroying him from afar. When he finds himself back in this place, he's wide-eyed and alert. He knows he's in the path of his own destiny.''
