Locke's sacrifice, reincarnation...?
definitely pretty Jesus-y. roll back the stone and Locke will rise on the third day, he died so the rest could live. etc.
then again the show has kinda been like that since the beginning ... I mean jeez there's a character named Christian Shepherd

Haha I only just noticed that.

I think that's it for Charlotte, Daniel will try to save her and fail, it'll be like his big tragedy. They basically filled in her back story in about 30seconds and we'll see the childhood bit later through Daniel's eyes. Explains why she got so excited about seeing the Dharma polar bear as well.
I do hope we get more time jumping but I think they're more likely to be stuck somewhere around the peak of the Dharma Inititative. That's where some of the biggest gaps are. That would mean no Black Rock though :(

based on last nites ep, some advice for people (like me) who have not regularly tried to watch this show:
DO NOT TRY TO WATCH THIS SHOW! it is a very advanced-type show, in that it cannot be watched.
― contenderizer, Thursday, 12 February 2009 22:25 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah, last night me and my girlfriend were talking about what it would be like if somebody was watching lost for the first time and watching this episode. Basically, there's no way you'd come close to understanding anything.
― peter in montreal, Thursday, 12 February 2009 22:31 (fifteen years ago) link
It's really just a 100 hour-long movie.

My daughter watched the first two seasons, skipped 3 and 4 when she went off to college and had less free time, and is now trying to catch up by watching from the beginning. She's in the middle of season 2, but is also watching current S5 episodes every Wednesday. Talk about timeslips and a lot of "wait, what?" moments.
― WmC, Thursday, 12 February 2009 22:43 (fifteen years ago) link
I wonder what Claire is up to during all of this. Maybe she's hanging out with Walt and they're being creepy together! At least we don't have to hear her saying "My baby!" in her terrible accent.
btw, how many more episodes are there this season? I wonder what they'll end it on.
― waxy tears (gustywindsmayexist), Thursday, 12 February 2009 22:46 (fifteen years ago) link
She's dead too! She and Christian appeared to Locke last season in Jacob's cabin.
I suppose Charlotte will appear in the cabin sometime this season.
― WmC, Thursday, 12 February 2009 22:49 (fifteen years ago) link
You don't have to be dead to appear as a weird island apparition - Walt has been popping up all over the place.
― Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Thursday, 12 February 2009 22:55 (fifteen years ago) link
Walt might be dead. In fact everyone might be dead. "This island is death" I remember reading the writers have denied the purgatory scenario, butthey had a weird camera in the eye motif (life flashes before your eyes when you die) in the first season, so they probably considered it and changed their mind, but now maybe they're changing their mind agin.

This whole story takes place in Faraday's mind in a split second after he sees the news of the plane crash, and none of it's actually true.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 12 February 2009 23:08 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah the last episode will end with faraday pulling a sheet of paper out of his typewriter and setting it on top of a large pile and as the cliffhanger noise starts the camera will zoom in on the first page which says "Screenplay for "Lost" by Daniel Faraday".

Smokey bit was exactly like this:
"I'm still here... come and help me..."
Yeah I wasn't too impressed with them not bothering to get all of them back. Still at least whiney Kate's been left out.
xp haha my husband is totally convinced that sort of thing is going to happen and I'm going to top myself at the sheer injustice of it all

Just watched this, one of the better ones this season so far! Fast pace, me likes.
- Sawyer had a nose bleed, did I catch that right? If so, why?
- How exactly is Faraday someone Charlotte knows from her past? How could he be the one who once told her to never come back? Does she somehow 'remember' him trying to save her all along?
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 13 February 2009 00:40 (fifteen years ago) link
11 or 12 more to go, I think. Funny--upthread we were speculating that the season would end with Locke turning the donkey wheel & the O6 returning--but things are moving a lot faster now. I think we'll end the season with a shot of the 4 toed statue fully intact.

"what's the island, jack? what is the island? what is.... time?"
there is no way they are going to pull some hack meta ending like that at this point; that's the sort of thing that was "whoa WTF" when St. Elsewhere did it but has not been anything but a cop out since.

Does Ben even know who Desmond is?
I assume he does because Juliet knew who Des was, plus the Others were probably monitoring him in the Swan through the Pearl hatch. Also they stole his Elizabeth boat.
Ben and Des have had exactly one scene together where they didn't speak to each other at all - the one at the start of season 4 when Des comes back to tell the castaways about Not Penny's Boat and Jack tries to kill Locke.
Producers have said that neither of these will happen. Island is also not a snowglobe. :)

Still leaves the "Faraday is Stephen J Cannell" theory wide open.
― James Mitchell, Friday, 13 February 2009 07:12 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah but i think the thing is this is a memory like the sudden "thing that daniel told me outside the hatch" desmond memory, where obv daniel has broken the rules and broken into desmonds past timestream or whatever. for whatever unstuck in time reason, daniel is able to change the past/future in some ways (although it looks like this one doesn't work out for him so well.)
Maybe this is why Desmond is special? He's the only one so far who has correctly remembered meeting a time-jumper.
Everybody else just don't seem to remember meeting them - no indication that Widmore remembered meeting Faraday (or Ethan meeting Locke, Danielle meeting Jin). Charlotte only remembers Daniel after her brain has started time-jumping through her past. Also the first time Daniel and Desmond met, Daniel himself didn't remember meeting Des in 1996 until he looked through his notebook. Maybe the island wipes people's memories after the time-jumpers been gone for a while.

lol, yeah this needs to happen.

loved it when Ben slammed the brakes on the van to have a go at Sun and Jack as if they were his two mischeivous kids. "Right that's it, I'm turning around!"
― O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 11:43 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah I was thinking a sort of "wrap up the series" speech. you know, we laughed, we cried, but we were always LOST.
― Local Garda, Friday, 13 February 2009 11:45 (fifteen years ago) link
It was hinted in the second episode that they have a fairly short window of opportunity - like the magic time door back to the Island will close at some point. So they can get Sun, Jack and Desmond back then and sort out the others later. Although Desmond will have to be sent back kicking and screaming - is he part of the plan or is it just the O6? I think if anyone has a big interest in getting him back to the island it's Daniel.
My favourite bit of this episode was Ben flipping out at Jack and Sun and doing his "you don't fucking appreciate all I've done for you, you ungrateful bastards!" flounce.

Everybody else just don't seem to remember meeting them - no indication that Widmore remembered meeting Faraday (or Ethan meeting Locke, Danielle meeting Jin).
Well, when Faraday/Locke/etc. met the 50s Others, Alpert & crew seemed to have no knowledge of time travel--yet in the 00s three of the Others who met the time flashers (Ellie/Eloise, Widmore & Alpert) are all doing time related stuff-- Alpert visiting young Locke, just like LOcke told him to do, Widmore funding Faraday's research into time, Ellie making pendulum art & bossing Desmond around in time. Seems to me that they must remember meeting the 815ers back in the 50s, which kicked off their interest in time travel.
― President Keyes, Friday, 13 February 2009 12:02 (fifteen years ago) link
i was thinking that maybe it started with the Dharma Initiative rather than the 815-ers.
― Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 13 February 2009 12:03 (fifteen years ago) link
The church location for Eloise the Time Monk kind of struck me as a nod to John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness, with all the wacky science experimentation being done in a church, but I'm probably really, really overreading it.
