I suppose Theon's captor is an unusual dude. xp.

obv imo there was something "off" about theon's escape so i wasn't exactly surprised at what it turned out to be but it was still grimly lolful.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 22 April 2013 20:01 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, also worth considering is that theon was the only one who knew bran and rickon were alive and now he told this guy

ciderpress, Monday, 22 April 2013 20:02 (eleven years ago) link

was it some kind of meta torture or something?!

I took it as, they weren't getting info out of Theon so they set up the fake escape, had the guy who let him go gain his trust, & at the very end there got Theon to admit he was loyal to the Starks

but yeah this is otm ---> usually you don't kill four of your own dudes in the process

dmr, Monday, 22 April 2013 20:02 (eleven years ago) link

the torturers are balon's crew or what? i have really no idea. not sure i'm supposed to though.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 22 April 2013 20:10 (eleven years ago) link

Bolton's, i'm pretty sure. the "boy" is Bolton's "bastard".

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 22 April 2013 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

i'm not sure how vague it's supposed to be, theon's story after the sack of winterfell is written kind of non-linearly in the books and they're clearly handling it differently in the tv show

ciderpress, Monday, 22 April 2013 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

More compelling if you know as much as Theon going along.

Evan, Monday, 22 April 2013 20:35 (eleven years ago) link

I haven't seen the season 3 episodes yet, but yeah, in the books this plotline has a lot of uncertainty and ambiguity.

Moodles, Monday, 22 April 2013 20:46 (eleven years ago) link

Dany fucking up the slavers is one of my favourite sequences in the book, and they really did it justice.
same, absolute class.

Best scene of the week - and I loved Olenna Tyrell & Varys too. Conleth Hill is just brilliant in every scene he's in.

gyac, Monday, 22 April 2013 22:36 (eleven years ago) link

god varys and olenna was fantastic - I said to Mr Veg it was like watching 2 snakes in conversation

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 04:50 (eleven years ago) link

idk, even though I wasn't a huge fan of the actress at the beginning, I've always had a soft spot for her character. Completely remaking herself from the terrified slave of crazy brother into this awesome Dragon queen-ruler-commander is awesome

Agree about Conleth Hill, that scene about his castration was close to perfect.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 06:13 (eleven years ago) link

And yeah, Dany really coming into her own now.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 06:14 (eleven years ago) link

lady olenna is a great new char

the look cersei gave her when chatting was golden

cozen, Tuesday, 23 April 2013 06:21 (eleven years ago) link

Amazing episode, so many wow moments in there.

I get the feeling that Cersei visibly losing influence within King's Landing is very bad news indeed for Tyrion and Shae in ways I can't really imagine just yet.

Olenna and Margaery together are terrific characters, totally playing everyone so far. No one else in the show understands the value of good PR.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 23 April 2013 11:51 (eleven years ago) link

Catching up today. Mira Reed is kind of rrrobyn-ish.

Theon is the Pete Campbell of this show, I will never tire of watching people inflict physical pain on him.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 10:10 (eleven years ago) link

Ooh, who'd be Don? Peggy? Roger?

mackleless (latebloomer), Wednesday, 24 April 2013 10:59 (eleven years ago) link

Tyrian has a bit of the Roger about him.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 24 April 2013 11:04 (eleven years ago) link

Tyrion actually, isn't it. Oops.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 24 April 2013 11:04 (eleven years ago) link

Arya is Peggy.

Was gonna say Ned was Don, but he was actually more like Lane.

Yes. Totally.

Tim F, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 11:56 (eleven years ago) link

Ooh, who'd be Roger?

Pretty much half the dudes in this are idiot manchildren who are in their position purely as a result of stuff their dad did.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 12:00 (eleven years ago) link

Jaime is Don.
