I think the real french guys died in the hole and Smokey assumed their bodies (see Yemi, still on the fence about Christian Shepherd [ps nice burn on Locke, not helping him up])

oops I neglected to read far enough down, sorry dmr!

at first i thought the arm time-traveled because sun's foot was too close to it but then was like 'oh they just traveled like 2 weeks.' bummer.

gangsa paradise (tehresa), Thursday, 12 February 2009 15:17 (fifteen years ago) link

why the hell is Christian Shepherd some kind of island public affairs representative now? is he infected by smokey too?

Local Garda, Thursday, 12 February 2009 15:40 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe it wasn't really him ;)

lucky girl LOL (tehresa), Thursday, 12 February 2009 15:41 (fifteen years ago) link

He and Smoke are 2 manifestations of the same thing, the island itself.

WmC, Thursday, 12 February 2009 15:41 (fifteen years ago) link

So Sun, Jack, and Ben driving around LA for 45 minutes would have been another perfect chance for characters to lay out a bunch of details and communicate with each other about what's happening. Instead Ben just freaks out, hints at a bunch of stuff, and the other two stare at him and ask no follow up questions. Good job.

Easter Time / Chocolate Time (joygoat), Thursday, 12 February 2009 15:43 (fifteen years ago) link

what about jacob? is he the island too?

Local Garda, Thursday, 12 February 2009 15:50 (fifteen years ago) link

so when Locke jumps to the real world can he walk? his leg is nasty broken and he's supposed to paralyzed off the island

dmr, Thursday, 12 February 2009 16:21 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe he kills himself due to his meaningless off island life

Local Garda, Thursday, 12 February 2009 16:37 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe he goes back to work at the box factory

ice cr?m, Thursday, 12 February 2009 16:40 (fifteen years ago) link

what about jacob? is he the island too?

I think so, but it's just a guess.

Last night I was thinking Locke would have internal injuries from the fall, and eventually die from them. I wonder if he'll pop up in Tunisia or somewhere else.

WmC, Thursday, 12 February 2009 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

also is the wheel thing fucked up cos ben did it, but locke basically fixes it again. is this the end of the time jumps?

i like the way christian said "you just have to give it a little push" and then locke PULLED the wheel

Local Garda, Thursday, 12 February 2009 16:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Don't know if this was upthread but my guess is that the island is going to stop skipping now and the kids upstairs (Sawyer etc) have been stuck in whatever time it was at that moment. Let's hope it's mid70s and we'll see young Charlotte, Ben, etc!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 12 February 2009 17:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Ha yeah, good catch with the pull vs. push! I did think that was an awkward shot, it must've been intentional.

The revelation that Ben wasn't supposed to move the island is a pretty big deal - the question is did he realize it and was just manipulating Locke? This season seems to be pushing Ben in a "Good" direction, even if he's just as much of a liar and manipulator as ever. Of course this ignores the Widmore revenge scheme, but his defense of Jack and seemingly earnest protest this episode...

Nhex, Thursday, 12 February 2009 17:13 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i thought it was strange that he was on the side where it would have been counter-clockwise if he'd pushed. maybe counter-clockwise = jump back in time and clockwise = forward, so when the wheel was shaking back and forth that's why they were jumping between future and past? dunno.

anyway i think maybe the pull will give them one last jump back to present maybe?

lucky girl LOL (tehresa), Thursday, 12 February 2009 17:29 (fifteen years ago) link

I thought the geronimo jackson mention was really awkward and forced. I kind of don't like it when the show does that, it seems overly written, too telegraphed, too injokey sometimes.

akm, Thursday, 12 February 2009 17:41 (fifteen years ago) link

yah i thought the same w/wobbly wheel pushed/pulled maybe fixed - def something along those lines

ice cr?m, Thursday, 12 February 2009 17:49 (fifteen years ago) link

lol this show has gotten ridiculous & i still love it

where u been?

2 ears + 1 ❤ (Pillbox), Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:04 (fifteen years ago) link

my friend thinks they are going to "lose" a lot of people next week when they start talking science. as in, people will become v v upset w/ the show but still watch it anyway bc you can't not watch it.

lucky girl LOL (tehresa), Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:05 (fifteen years ago) link

talkin' science like Galileo dropped the orange?

Rousseau says in Season 1 that her crew had been on the island for two months before the sickness took hold and that she gave birth three days after killing Robert. If they washed ashore in November 1988, then Alex would've only been 15 when we knew her.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:31 (fifteen years ago) link

that arm didnt look 2 months old imo

ice cr?m, Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:32 (fifteen years ago) link

finally found all the parts on youtube this time!

good smokemonster action but i guess that's all we'll see of it this season.

wonder where Locke's been zapped to (somewhere different to Ben i'm guessing...altho might be cool if the Saharan location represents the exact opposite position of the island in the world...then again if the island has moved that might be different now). the other thing about the donkey wheel scene is that Locke could get down there on a well rope but previously Ben and Locke had to take a long slow descent down in the lift with it seeming much deeper underground than a well base could be. oh WELL...

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:34 (fifteen years ago) link

Why does Faraday say Desmond can fix everything right before Charlotte dies. How can he fix everything if she dies?

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:38 (fifteen years ago) link

and Christian must be a ghost if he cant help Locke up

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:39 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe he just has no upper body strength

Dear Dr. Brown,
On the night that I go back in time at 1:30 A.M., you will be shot by terrorists.
Please take whatever precautions are necessary to prevent this terrible disaster.
Your Friend,
Marty

Next episode will reveal Charlotte has worn a bulletproof vest.

Also, it's been established ghosts/zombies can still move shit. Mr. Eko can move chess pieces no problem right? Dude is just lazy.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:46 (fifteen years ago) link

i think Hurley was moving the other pieces himself but thinking Eko was doing it.

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:47 (fifteen years ago) link

But that would mean Hurley is crazy!!?

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:48 (fifteen years ago) link

it's either him or me

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Why does Faraday say Desmond can fix everything right before Charlotte dies. How can he fix everything if she dies?

maybe he knew charlotte would die and that's why he sent desmond back before she even showed symptoms.

lucky girl LOL (tehresa), Thursday, 12 February 2009 19:06 (fifteen years ago) link

explains why daniels so tweaked out all the time - dude is just crazy stressd and sad from always trying to save his girl from death

ice cr?m, Thursday, 12 February 2009 19:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Kind of sucks for Charlotte that it took her so long to remember what Daniel told her.

President Keyes, Thursday, 12 February 2009 19:16 (fifteen years ago) link

explains why daniels so tweaked out all the time

That and the fact that everything we've seen has been, from his perspective, like 3 days since he arrived on the island.

Pancakes Hackman, Thursday, 12 February 2009 19:19 (fifteen years ago) link

What's the deal with Daniel bein' all up in Charlotte's youth and then him being in her present and not knowing it?! He's got a really weird relationship dynamic! I wish a physicist from the future past would come and fall in love with me as a youngster! Sounds very Time Traveler's Wife-ish.

waxy tears (gustywindsmayexist), Thursday, 12 February 2009 19:25 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe he made coma girl because he was using her as a guinea pig to figure out ways to save charlotte, instead of knowing what would happen to charlotte after witnessing it happening to coma girl.

lucky girl LOL (tehresa), Thursday, 12 February 2009 19:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Kind of sucks for Charlotte that it took her so long to remember what Daniel told her.

― President Keyes, Thursday, February 12, 2009 7:16 PM (10 minutes ago)

yeah but i think the thing is this is a memory like the sudden "thing that daniel told me outside the hatch" desmond memory, where obv daniel has broken the rules and broken into desmonds past timestream or whatever. for whatever unstuck in time reason, daniel is able to change the past/future in some ways (although it looks like this one doesn't work out for him so well.)

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Thursday, 12 February 2009 19:31 (fifteen years ago) link

xp to Pancakes, I think Miles said "I've only been here three weeks" when he first got his nosebleed /pedant

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 12 February 2009 19:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Daniel hasn't met young Charlotte yet to tell her that she's going to die; in a future time jump they will go to her youth and he'll be all "better tell this little ginger girl cuidado" even though he knows he can't change the (her) future/(his) past.

GLEEPGLOP BLOOPBLORP (nickalicious), Thursday, 12 February 2009 20:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Did Ben know that Eloise was Faraday's mom? Judging by his reaction I don't think he did; I also don't think he expected to see Desmond there.

Does Ben even know who Desmond is?

GLEEPGLOP BLOOPBLORP (nickalicious), Thursday, 12 February 2009 20:44 (fifteen years ago) link

They've never had a scene together in the whole series.

GLEEPGLOP BLOOPBLORP (nickalicious), Thursday, 12 February 2009 20:45 (fifteen years ago) link

Also re: Charlotte's memory - she seemed to be experiencing the kind of internal timejumps that Desmond/Minkowski were, and probably relived the Faraday memory...kind of like when you re-watch a movie from your childhood and are all "lol I didn't even know who Jack Black was back then".

GLEEPGLOP BLOOPBLORP (nickalicious), Thursday, 12 February 2009 20:47 (fifteen years ago) link

"This scary man told me never to come back to this island, and i just realized that man was Jack Black!"

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Thursday, 12 February 2009 20:50 (fifteen years ago) link

You watch a lot of Bob Roberts when you were a kid, Nickalicious?

Also, "better tell this little ginger girl cuidado" is a beautiful sentence.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 12 February 2009 20:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Jin knows so much more english now! His use of "monster!" was quite awesome. I wonder how they'll get back to the island. I also want to hear more of the science-y background of how they first found the island.
