yeh that works for me

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 6 February 2009 17:55 (fifteen years ago) link

even if "the Island" is revealed as a proxy for "the show writers" or any meta-stuff like that?
They were getting pretty close to that with "the Island won't let you die, MIchael" i.e.
"us, the writers, have other plans for this character muahahahhah"

Hey actually the Island's powers and Walt's powers are kind of similar. Maybe they are actually antagonists and there will be a Walt/Island showdown? Where the Island = the writers and Walt = studio execs?

Philip Nunez, Friday, 6 February 2009 20:30 (fifteen years ago) link

I bet we'll get to see Walt in Locke's off-island adventure episode but fear that will be the end of his story on LOST entirely.

GLEEPGLOP BLOOPBLORP (nickalicious), Friday, 6 February 2009 21:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Walt was the only 815er in NY right? Yeah whoever said BenthamLocke visits him last then dies (hangs himself the obit said right?) probably otm.

GLEEPGLOP BLOOPBLORP (nickalicious), Friday, 6 February 2009 21:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, Walt can really bring you down.

President Keyes, Friday, 6 February 2009 21:18 (fifteen years ago) link

i do not see why he has to die tho

well duh they're clearly playing that one close to the vest... im sure it'll be revealed

i suspected a buried h bomb had something to do with the numbers desmond had to enter

akm, Friday, 6 February 2009 21:40 (fifteen years ago) link

It might be something to do with the fact that he can't walk in the real world and has been a tad energetic on the island.

Holy Suffering Gobi Desert Clit Nun (Matt DC), Friday, 6 February 2009 21:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Seriously, did Rose and Bernard just go for a hike or something?

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Friday, 6 February 2009 21:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Rewatching the episode, I realized that when they get back to the camp they're in the future, and those canoes are there, so it can be assumed Rose/Bernard/etc took off to get away from the canoe people (perhaps they never saw the canoe people, just flashed to a time in which the canoes were on the island, and took the zodiac to get away?) and/or something that happened to them in a previous flash :| I still don't remember seeing the two groups actually part ways though, what led Sawyer etc away from the beach?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 6 February 2009 22:06 (fifteen years ago) link

Rose and Bernard will turn up perfectly unharmed for five minutes in the penultimate episode of the season, I wouldn't worry about it.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Friday, 6 February 2009 23:02 (fifteen years ago) link

They're probably off doing a play.

President Keyes, Friday, 6 February 2009 23:27 (fifteen years ago) link

I would imagine Rose and Bernard have been jumping through the exact same time periods as Locke, Sawyer & co, although they've been separated so they're wandering around elsewhere. They may have been at the camp area when everyone flashed to the post-camp-and-canoe time, but I doubt the zodiac was still there by that point.

Does anyone not think that Jin has been experiencing the same time flashes but has been floating on a door or whatever out in the ocean the whole time? I'd imagine he rowed partway to the island between flashes and eventually passed out.

mh, Saturday, 7 February 2009 00:10 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm wondering whether Jin was blown clear of the freighter or just magically survived the whole thing exploding in a big ball of fire.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Saturday, 7 February 2009 00:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Call me cold hearted, but I kinda hope that Rose & Bernard have been sucked into some black hole vacuum & remain there for the rest of the series.

Ricky Apples (Pillbox), Saturday, 7 February 2009 00:32 (fifteen years ago) link

See, I would rather watch them die, personally.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Saturday, 7 February 2009 00:33 (fifteen years ago) link

I'd like to see Walt fling birds at them with his mind.

i'd like to know how Jin floated into the island's bubble but the chopper didn't. surely it was closer than the freighter?

Disco/Very (Roz), Saturday, 7 February 2009 04:07 (fifteen years ago) link

But the helicopter was in the air when the island moved--maybe that's why it didn't go along.

President Keyes, Saturday, 7 February 2009 12:05 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm wondering why it hasn't been on the news that a massive fucking freighter full of Americans exploded in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Saturday, 7 February 2009 12:57 (fifteen years ago) link

the island didnt want it to

max, Saturday, 7 February 2009 12:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Robbie Keane kept missing open goals from three yards out = the Island wanted him to go back to Spurs.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Saturday, 7 February 2009 13:13 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm assuming timecop lady's "event window" markers on the map show where the island appears in the real world/real time AND that current island time doesn't correlate with outside world time, at least for now...

Assuming that, it's possible that Jin has maybe drifted in the South Pacific real world/time from where the island disappeared to the current "event window" (open for 70 hours) and that, if they can't stop the timeskips during this event window (will they stop as soon as the O6 come back, or do they need to come back AND do something for that to happen?), he might be left behind in the 1988 timeline?

GLEEPGLOP BLOOPBLORP (nickalicious), Saturday, 7 February 2009 21:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Knowing Locke's character arc so far on the series it's likely he will leave the island and lose the ability to walk again, he will visit everyone and lose faith in himself and his mission, and actually take his own life out of desparation...when in reality the catalyst for Jack et al to get back together was Jack reading his obit.

GLEEPGLOP BLOOPBLORP (nickalicious), Saturday, 7 February 2009 21:52 (fifteen years ago) link

remember how we were talking about watching the show in chronological order? someone's gone and done it, starting with day 1 on the island to the day the O6 leave, minus flashbacks. O_O I don't have the hard drive space or the time to watch this right now (and not even sure if i really want to either) but i thought some of you might be interested.

Disco/Very (Roz), Sunday, 8 February 2009 18:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Wow, that's both insane and great!

Though just like you I will never have the time to watch it all.

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 8 February 2009 19:27 (fifteen years ago) link

What is the point of watching them in chronological order? The show is based on these constant audience flashback reveals, it seems like it'd just be a very boring melodrama out of that context.

Nhex, Sunday, 8 February 2009 19:39 (fifteen years ago) link

wonder if the scene of sawyer seeing claire give birth is done twice.

special guest stars mark bronson, Sunday, 8 February 2009 19:58 (fifteen years ago) link

eh some people like melodrama. and since it's focused on on-island action, there'd actually be a little less melodrama because they're moving and doing stuff all the time (exception being the sawyer-kate-jack cage nonsense) - it would probably make less sense though since it won't be clear what the characters' motivations are. but it would be interesting to work out what subplots tended to get more focus, which ones were introduced and then dropped, etc.

not from the link above but this is still my favourite vid of the original crash in chronological order:

Disco/Very (Roz), Sunday, 8 February 2009 20:14 (fifteen years ago) link

the idea is pretty stoopid. instead of cutting from *intense moment + whooshing noise* to a flashback, it'll go to whateverthefuck. fail.

special guest stars mark bronson, Sunday, 8 February 2009 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Seems pointless to even try until the entire series has played out.

President Keyes, Sunday, 8 February 2009 22:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean at this point a chronological on island video would have to start with the flaming arrows scene--but who knows when we'll be three weeks from now?

President Keyes, Sunday, 8 February 2009 22:18 (fifteen years ago) link

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 9 February 2009 12:44 (fifteen years ago) link

there have been much, much worse eps than this, but it lacked a resolution or strong thread, i guess.

special guest stars mark bronson, Monday, 9 February 2009 12:45 (fifteen years ago) link

The Kate and Aaron stuff just makes me cringe, I wish they'd got a child with a less annoying voice. Weirdly I'm looking forward to the Jack episode this time round, looks like some dark shit went down between Locke's visit and "we have to go back" that we still haven't seen yet. There's still something of the Sayid/Ben story that's yet to be told as well.

I can't quite work out why no one is bothering to actually look for Claire though. You'd think Sawyer at least would mention it, seeing as he thinks everyone else is dead.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Monday, 9 February 2009 13:00 (fifteen years ago) link

to be fair they're all kinda busy being time-tossed to organise Claire search party. and they probably think Aaron died on the freighter (unless Locke has told them all what Alpert told him).

i speed-watched a few episodes from last season and drew an important conclusion - no woman has ever looked finer than Naomi in her scenes prior to reaching the island

otm.

it's not a big deal, but the off-island stuff is a bit confusing. i can't remember when kate's court case was. or when she was living with jack. and if we do get stuff filling in what happened between sayid and ben, that'll be hard to fit in too.

getting to 'last year at marienbad' levels of complex tbh, only better.

special guest stars mark bronson, Monday, 9 February 2009 13:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Getting off the Island -> Kate's court case -> Kate & Jack domestic bliss -> Kate & Jack sneaking around and distrust and strife -> some bad shit we haven't seen yet -> "we have to go back" -> S5 stuff.

I think.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Monday, 9 February 2009 13:45 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah it's easy to forget that Locke and co. are still in 2005 while the O6 are now in late 2008 right?

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 9 February 2009 13:57 (fifteen years ago) link

well, strictly, they aren't in 2005!

special guest stars mark bronson, Monday, 9 February 2009 13:58 (fifteen years ago) link

True. I suppose the whole time jumping thing is one of the only ways they could have reconciled the on/off island timelines without showing us Sawyer, Juliet and Locke hanging around on the island for three years. They might not ever actually live through 2006 and 2007. Either that or the 06 will return to 2005 island time.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Monday, 9 February 2009 14:02 (fifteen years ago) link

iirc they haven't explained why they "have to go back" yet, but it seems to have been prompted by locke's death. and that's c. 2007. (why did ben not want to go back before then?)

but i do think that when they return, it will be to 2005.

special guest stars mark bronson, Monday, 9 February 2009 14:11 (fifteen years ago) link

i can see time just becoming less and less important in that when they do return to the island neither they nor we will really know when they are anymore (or where on Earth the island actually is). the snowglobe thing basically.

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 9 February 2009 14:16 (fifteen years ago) link

and Locke will become the smokemonster

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 9 February 2009 14:17 (fifteen years ago) link

i like miles/faraday/and especially charlotte, and in a fight between that crew and ben, i'd kind of side with team widmore.

but that's how this has to go down, right?

nobody really hates hen fap (special guest stars mark bronson), Monday, 9 February 2009 14:28 (fifteen years ago) link

Not sure it will go down like that though - although Widmore's funding them and put them there I think their scientific objectives don't necessarily chime with whatever Widmore's shadowy aim is. And they've sort of broken with him in helping people get off the island in the first place.

Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Monday, 9 February 2009 14:31 (fifteen years ago) link
