I'm assuming Ajira airlines has something to do with the Others talking about building a runway or some crazy shit, was that last season?

I rewatched last night and he did say something about "she was delivering Aaron" or something else implying Claire was there.
what's the origami thing?

I want to know how the hell the canoe made the jump with them instead of them just being dropped in the ocean. Perhaps if they're touching things they make the jump, like the compass, those things make it too? It'd explain how they remained clothed, I guess.
I wonder what's up with Ajira Airlines flying to Ames, Iowa. I know that one of those mysterious preview billboards was in Ames and I think Kate's character is supposed to be from somewhere in Iowa, but it still makes no sense. Pretty sure that no planes that'd carry more than ten people could take off from the Ames airport, but I'd guess they're just using the convenient fictional aspect here.
― mh, Friday, 6 February 2009 15:37 (fifteen years ago) link
yes im also pretty sure theres no time travelling island in the middle of the pacific but it seems as though theyre using the very convenient "fictional" aspect
― max, Friday, 6 February 2009 15:39 (fifteen years ago) link
Oh yeah, why don't you disprove the existence of a time-traveling island that doesn't show up from space, max.
― mh, Friday, 6 February 2009 15:40 (fifteen years ago) link
Daniel asked that they go to something 'manmade'. Maybe only 'manmade' things can move in time with people.
It does feel like they're building up to someone running into themselves on the island or will the island always prevent this from happening? And what if Sawyer HAD called out to Kate?
― O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 6 February 2009 15:43 (fifteen years ago) link
Sawyer did mention Claire giving birth, incidentally. Maybe not to Juliet but there were dudes shooting at them at the time. He definitely mentioned it later.
I don't think anyone will actually run into themselves because Daniel's already said they can't change the past. I think it's an issue the writers are trying to avoid if at all possible. There might be a Desmond v Desmond face-off at some point but I can't see much else happening.

we'll see i guess—i did find it interesting that we finally DID see non-jumping losties

i mena, that that the jumpers did
there was someone on another blog who was speculating that wise old man locke saying all sorts of cryptic stuff to jack in season 1 was actually wise old man locke from teh future. which would be O_O if you think about having to rewatch all those scenes from s 1 in a new context.

yeah I was wondering about that. presumably if the group had been closer to the hatch they woulda seen Locke from the past pounding on it or else Desmond wouldn't have turned the light on
― dmr, Friday, 6 February 2009 16:14 (fifteen years ago) link
not having anyone run into themselves (even making it an essential requirement for survival or something) would seem kind of a cop out tho, seeing as they're running with this concept at all
― O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:17 (fifteen years ago) link
i dunno the way time travel works on this show i think we can assume that they won't meet themselves simply because we've already seen from the past four seasons that they've never met themselves. even if they do, it gets essential that their past selves don't see them - so they could be like sawyer, hiding behind the bushes or something.
― Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:21 (fifteen years ago) link
or maybe for example, Present Locke sees an Other trying to shoot Past Locke trekking through the jungle, but since Present Locke knows he doesn't die that day he rescues himself from getting shot. like in harry potter 3.
― Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link
"I don't think anyone will actually run into themselves because Daniel's already said they can't change the past."
aren't they changing the past though? they are disabling bombs for people in the past. that's gotta change something.
― scott seward, Friday, 6 February 2009 16:28 (fifteen years ago) link
...or perhaps it was always meant to be and that is how the past was. Don't mistake coincidence for fate.*
*This has nothing to do with anything but John said it so much in the first season it might mean something now that we know he engineered his own fate.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link
But they didn't disable any bombs! He told them to bury it, and knew it would be sufficient because the island was still there 50 years later!
― Nebuchadnezzar Strychnine (Pancakes Hackman), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:31 (fifteen years ago) link
Surely the point of the time jumping is it enables both the Losties and us to see first hand some of the weird stuff that's happened in the history of the island, not so that Sawyer can bump into his past self and get involved in all sorts of Back To The Future shit? Dunno, the latter option seems more of a cop-out. If any survivor is getting involved in the affairs of past survivors then it's probably ghostly apparition Walt.
That said, considering the Island has been around for hundreds of years, it seems weird they keep reappearing within the two or three months since the plane crashed.

^^ otm, ppl are way overthinking the time travel thing. dont get why the writers would be looking to make anything MORE complicated at this point with sawyer becoming a horse and giving old john locke advice while being shot at from a boat or whatever.
― max, Friday, 6 February 2009 16:37 (fifteen years ago) link
actually matt, we've gotten future boat time, and early others time, and rousseau crash time, so the time blips seem to be mostly linked to pivotal events on the island (which of course is how you get the plot to work, if it was just random this show would take a long time to finish) and i assume that will be attributed to the will of the island.

I like this!! Maybe the O6 will end up taking Walt to the island (Ben will be all "Oh BTW, I didn't mention this until the very last second, but we also need to find Walt and Desmond. Penny would be nice too, so I can kill her") and then Walt will go and do the spooky things he did in the first few seasons because Locke told him that's what must happen. He did tell Hurley Bentham visited him too, right? Maybe off-island Walt will already know (from Bentham) he has to go back too, and will transport himself all crazily over to the harbour where Ben and the others are in the next episode.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link
Lost seems to rely very heavily on causal loops, where things happened the way they happened precisely because time travel exists.
eg daniel telling them to bury the bomb so that the island will continue to exist in 50 years where daniel will arrive and travel back in time to tell them to bury the bomb so that... etc.
or alpert giving the compass to locke who gives it to alpert who gives it locke and so on...
so yeah if Taller Walt goes back in time to give advice to 2004 Locke, it's because Walt already knows this was how it was supposed to happen.
nu-Doctor Who loves this shit as well and i can see why - it's basically the only way to do time travel on tv without getting into multiple pasts/futures territory (Heroes tried this and basically the plot just fell apart because it got way too confusing).
― Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:59 (fifteen years ago) link
Wet Walt could only have been the island tho
― O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 6 February 2009 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link
That nuclear bomb thing was so stupid. Unless the series ends with it blowing up the entire island up forever.
― Holy Suffering Gobi Desert Clit Nun (Matt DC), Friday, 6 February 2009 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link
although the bomb could explain a bunch of the weird electro-mag and radiation shit that keeps happening in all the underground hatches.
― born of nililism and iconoclasm (John Justen), Friday, 6 February 2009 17:03 (fifteen years ago) link
i'm pretty sure the bomb is going to resurface. seems so stupid to introduce it (going so far as to name the episode after it) and not do anything with it. it wasn't even really presented as a threat in that ep.
