This ep needed more Ben-zings.
When's Juliet gonna pull some big twist out of the bag?

Not the real Village People, Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:13 (fifteen years ago) link

just throwing this out here - what if the "sickness" regular-time Danielle talked about is this nose bleed/hemoraging thing

― GLEEPGLOP BLOOPBLORP (nickalicious), Thursday, 5 February 2009 21:26 (48 minutes ago)

The rest of Danielle's party died when "the sickness" came, remember? What's the betting the sickness includes short term memory loss and nosebleeds?

4 real it bothers me how shes always walking around acting like she knows awesome secrets

ice cr?m, Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, it seems like, at this point in the narrative, all bets would be off in terms of protecting the Others' secret information. It's a bit of a pox on the writing IMO that they haven't had a Juliette confessional, which would have seemed appropriate at least by some point last season.

Ricky Apples (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:23 (fifteen years ago) link

no one ever confesses or in anyway communicates any information to anyone - its one of the tenets of the show

lol

ya like when jack is trying to convince kate to come with him why is he all like "come onnnnn... you just haaaaaaaave to"

s1ocki, Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:29 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah not 'someone is trying to kill you right now'.

Not the real Village People, Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Who here will give odds that someone kills Penny in LA?

Killer:
Ben 3:1
Sayid 5:1
Sun: 12:1
That Commando Dude who killed Rousseau family: 36:1

(I dunno the true odds; I have no idea how you go about handicapping fictional assassins. Little help?)

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 5 February 2009 22:52 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm pretty sure the French dudes don't die of time sickness, seeing as they haven't actually been jumping about in time, and the nosebleeds are determined by the length of stay on the Island.

Penny is so dead.

Hmmm... I wonder if the people with the Canoes and water bottles in the future were perhaps Ben, Jack, Kate, etc who flew Ajira to Fiji?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 5 February 2009 23:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Why would they be shooting at Sawyer and the others though?

Holy Suffering Gobi Desert Clit Nun (Matt DC), Thursday, 5 February 2009 23:11 (fifteen years ago) link

I can't remember very clearly but would they have been close enough to see that it was them? Probably a big stretch, but then, we've seen polar bears on this island, etc. I still want to know where Bernard and the other backgorund characters disappeared to!

or when sawyer finally admits to juliette that he saw kate he fails to mention that claire was there giving birth

ice cr?m, Thursday, 5 February 2009 23:27 (fifteen years ago) link

Finally a full length Darlton podcast. Confirmation that we will find out how the French guy lost his arm (in the dark territory) next week. Also, Vincent will survive all 6 seasons.

I'm guessing the same thing. I'm also betting the Juliet's shot actually hits and kills one of the them.

Carl Magnusssen (petey_carnum), Friday, 6 February 2009 00:29 (fifteen years ago) link

if it was jack et al in the other canoe why they fire on them tho

WATERSLIDE MANSION (ice cr?m), Friday, 6 February 2009 00:42 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah exactly...it'll have to be a v elaborate or silly setup to suddenly go "here's why they chased them" and "here's why they fired at them"

Local Garda, Friday, 6 February 2009 00:44 (fifteen years ago) link

honestly i think they wouldve been like hay those look like they might be our friends were looking for - but you know i wouldnt put any sort of crazy plot twists past lost - i mean maybe theyre all hay those black stallions are stealing our canoe get em \(O_O)/

WATERSLIDE MANSION (ice cr?m), Friday, 6 February 2009 00:50 (fifteen years ago) link

none of the shots hit the timejumpers because they're not supposed to die yet right? similarly if it was jack, kate etc in the other canoe they prob won't get hit either. like sawyer shooting at young charles widmore last week - missed.

juliet's been pretty bad-ass lately but she needs to start talking. it really seems as if she knows more than she lets on - she was ben's favourite lieutenant after all.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 6 February 2009 03:23 (fifteen years ago) link

btw it's still possible that rousseau's crew is timejumping. depending on which bearing they came in, they could start consciously if not physically timejumping ala minkowski, desmond etc.

i think the length of time spent on the island only affects those who are physically timejumping.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 6 February 2009 04:01 (fifteen years ago) link

We definitely see someone get shot (and fall in the water?) when Juliet shoots back.

I'm assuming Ajira airlines has something to do with the Others talking about building a runway or some crazy shit, was that last season?

Local Garda, Friday, 6 February 2009 12:06 (fifteen years ago) link

Batshit Lostpedia finds from the Ajira website:

A number of messages in hexadecimal coding have been found in the site source code on different pages. They are:

* "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (From the Bible, John 3:16 - links to the Ajira promotional video).
* "So off they started about Irish sport and shoneen games the like of lawn tennis and about hurley and putting the stone and racy of the soil and building up a nation once again and all of that." (This is a quote from James Joyce's novel 'Ulysses').
* Pineapples in Hawaii. (Pineapples in Hawaii are called Halakahiki).
* Supersonic is commercial thirty till meridian.
* "Where America's day begins." (The official motto of Guam).

I rewatched last night and he did say something about "she was delivering Aaron" or something else implying Claire was there.

what's the origami thing?

I want to know how the hell the canoe made the jump with them instead of them just being dropped in the ocean. Perhaps if they're touching things they make the jump, like the compass, those things make it too? It'd explain how they remained clothed, I guess.

I wonder what's up with Ajira Airlines flying to Ames, Iowa. I know that one of those mysterious preview billboards was in Ames and I think Kate's character is supposed to be from somewhere in Iowa, but it still makes no sense. Pretty sure that no planes that'd carry more than ten people could take off from the Ames airport, but I'd guess they're just using the convenient fictional aspect here.

mh, Friday, 6 February 2009 15:37 (fifteen years ago) link

yes im also pretty sure theres no time travelling island in the middle of the pacific but it seems as though theyre using the very convenient "fictional" aspect

max, Friday, 6 February 2009 15:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, why don't you disprove the existence of a time-traveling island that doesn't show up from space, max.

mh, Friday, 6 February 2009 15:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Daniel asked that they go to something 'manmade'. Maybe only 'manmade' things can move in time with people.

It does feel like they're building up to someone running into themselves on the island or will the island always prevent this from happening? And what if Sawyer HAD called out to Kate?

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 6 February 2009 15:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Sawyer did mention Claire giving birth, incidentally. Maybe not to Juliet but there were dudes shooting at them at the time. He definitely mentioned it later.

I don't think anyone will actually run into themselves because Daniel's already said they can't change the past. I think it's an issue the writers are trying to avoid if at all possible. There might be a Desmond v Desmond face-off at some point but I can't see much else happening.

Holy Suffering Gobi Desert Clit Nun (Matt DC), Friday, 6 February 2009 15:54 (fifteen years ago) link

we'll see i guess—i did find it interesting that we finally DID see non-jumping losties

s1ocki, Friday, 6 February 2009 15:57 (fifteen years ago) link

i mena, that that the jumpers did

s1ocki, Friday, 6 February 2009 15:57 (fifteen years ago) link

there was someone on another blog who was speculating that wise old man locke saying all sorts of cryptic stuff to jack in season 1 was actually wise old man locke from teh future. which would be O_O if you think about having to rewatch all those scenes from s 1 in a new context.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:04 (fifteen years ago) link

u seem differnt than earlier today

yah dont worry abt that just heres what u got to do

WATERSLIDE MANSION (ice cr?m), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:06 (fifteen years ago) link

well Locke did save Jack from falling off the side of the cliff when he was chasing his father!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Actually that Jack/Locke thing would be awesome.

Holy Suffering Gobi Desert Clit Nun (Matt DC), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:08 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't think anyone will actually run into themselves

yeah I was wondering about that. presumably if the group had been closer to the hatch they woulda seen Locke from the past pounding on it or else Desmond wouldn't have turned the light on

dmr, Friday, 6 February 2009 16:14 (fifteen years ago) link

not having anyone run into themselves (even making it an essential requirement for survival or something) would seem kind of a cop out tho, seeing as they're running with this concept at all

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:17 (fifteen years ago) link

i dunno the way time travel works on this show i think we can assume that they won't meet themselves simply because we've already seen from the past four seasons that they've never met themselves. even if they do, it gets essential that their past selves don't see them - so they could be like sawyer, hiding behind the bushes or something.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:21 (fifteen years ago) link

or maybe for example, Present Locke sees an Other trying to shoot Past Locke trekking through the jungle, but since Present Locke knows he doesn't die that day he rescues himself from getting shot. like in harry potter 3.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link

"I don't think anyone will actually run into themselves because Daniel's already said they can't change the past."

aren't they changing the past though? they are disabling bombs for people in the past. that's gotta change something.

scott seward, Friday, 6 February 2009 16:28 (fifteen years ago) link

...or perhaps it was always meant to be and that is how the past was. Don't mistake coincidence for fate.*

*This has nothing to do with anything but John said it so much in the first season it might mean something now that we know he engineered his own fate.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

But they didn't disable any bombs! He told them to bury it, and knew it would be sufficient because the island was still there 50 years later!

Nebuchadnezzar Strychnine (Pancakes Hackman), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Surely the point of the time jumping is it enables both the Losties and us to see first hand some of the weird stuff that's happened in the history of the island, not so that Sawyer can bump into his past self and get involved in all sorts of Back To The Future shit? Dunno, the latter option seems more of a cop-out. If any survivor is getting involved in the affairs of past survivors then it's probably ghostly apparition Walt.

That said, considering the Island has been around for hundreds of years, it seems weird they keep reappearing within the two or three months since the plane crashed.

Holy Suffering Gobi Desert Clit Nun (Matt DC), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:33 (fifteen years ago) link

anything inexplicable="the island didn't want that to happen"
