so the van Sayid and Ben are driving around in says "Canton-Rainier Carpet Cleaning" on the side. Canton-Rainier is an anagram for "reincarnation." Just sayin'.

I knew it had to be an anagram for something, because...it's LOST.

So I'm guessing the oceanic 6 are constants for important people on the island. but WHICH ONES?

kate: sawyer ("skate" pretty much proven in this episode)

aaron: claire?

What if Jack's constant is Claire? Do we know she's not alive? What if Ben is someone's constant? Maybe that's why he wants Aaron. Who would it be for Locke? Also, if someone got far enough off the island, would they still time travel? Also, did Frenchy ever mention Jin in her notes?

Also, I think that redhead and miles are both as good as dead.

anyone speculated yet as to who got the court order to get the blood tests from kate and GOOBER?

I don't think constants are as important to the overall story as everyone else in the world does. Desmond needed one because his consciousness was traveling back and forth in time because he'd been slapped with a crazy dose of radiation via the Swan imploding on him and they sort of didn't go through the bearing correctly when the helicopter first left the island. The consciousness travel made it impossible for him to discern who/where/when he was. That's not so much the case with Locke & Friends. They'll solve the hemorrhaging in some other way.

It's quite possible, but it's a fun theory to play around with.

Jin being alive = "Island won't let you die" = how Ben convinces Sun to go back.

also does Rousseau not remember Jin when she meets him later? I know she's batty and it had been 16 years but I'd imagine she'd remember a Korean dude named Jin mysteriously washing up on the same shore as her team. Or maybe this is another one of those weird time/memory things.

And i've noticed that they've been quite clever about having certain people NOT meet. Charles Widmore recruited Charlotte, Faraday, and Miles for the freighter mission but apart from Faraday, he never met them in 1954 (being conveniently on another part of the island with Juliet, Sawyer and Locke instead). plus Dan never told the Others their names. Was it a coincidence or did Widmore already know that they were all connected to the island when he recruited them?

I'm starting to think Ben is an idiot.

First, he goes by himself to try to recruit Hurley. Should have had Jack come with him, or just sent a dart dude to tranq him.

Now he's got Jack & Sayyid part way going along with him, but undermines it by sending lawyer after Kate & telling her he did.

All the I'm-only-being-devious-to-save-you stuff might end up working because the O6 have mostly been written as morons, but Ben is not quite the genius I once thought he was.

The Oceanic 6 stuff is really really boring compared to what's happening on the island. I hope they get back to the island before the end of the season, or even before mid-season.

The rest of Danielle's party died when "the sickness" came, remember? What's the betting the sickness includes short term memory loss and nosebleeds?

yeah and Danielle/Alex are the only ones who survive because oh hey Jin is her constant.

Or because she gets injected by Richard's crew.

i kind of hate magical special prophecy baby stuff in these shows like always... battlestar too

i wonder if they picked the actress who played rousseau based on the alliterative qualities of her name - older danielle played by Mira Furlan and younger danielle played by Melissa Farman.

about the magical baby stuff - there really wasn't much of that either. the title was kind of misleading since the whole episode seemed to be more about how sawyer misses kate.

Good question... I think Jin was there when Jack and Rousseau did their dynamite demo in SSN 3.

Im starting to think Ben is an idiot. - Dunno about this. I agree that it was kind of o_O stupid not to bring Jack with him when trying to recruit Hurley. But then again, Ben just revealed he has connections who can guarantee Hurley's release, thus delivering him to a united front of the O6 (cause you know Kate & Sun will be on board by next week) at precisely the right time. Same thing with Kate & the lawyer thing: Ben's gift seems to be in anticipating others' (Others?) behavioral patterns by several steps, as if he were playing psychological chess with everyone through the power of suggestion. Thus, knowing how Kate would react to being served papers, and that Sun and Claire's mom would be in town, along with Jack etc. to facilitate the process, he was able to place her right where he wanted her, alongside the rest of the group. I agree that all this is far-fetched, but this is Lost fer chrissakes.

One thing that's bothered me since last season: Maybe this has been resolved, and I'm just not recalling it. Daniel & Charlotte's original Widmore-issued island mission (or one of them at least) was to shut down that reactor thingamajig to prevent Ben from killing everyone on the island, which they were only able to do at the zero hour (naturally). If Ben had succeeded in killing everyone except, presumably, himself (and perhaps the Others at the temple), and the Losties & Freighties know this, they certainly haven't talked about it much, and have said nary a word to Ben about it, while (meanwhile) Widmore/Keamy have been cast as Satan incarnate for basically trying to do the same thing.

ben has done shitty things to them time and time again and the lostites still persist in trusting him when shit goes down because like he said so himself, he figures out what their weaknesses are and exploits them.

that's not how it works. he first meets her in 2004. he meets her the second time in 1988. 1988 is in her past but his future (i swear i've had this conversation in the doctor who thread heh).

man i hope this is one of the few boooooooooring lets put the pieces in place episodes this season. esp frustrating because some of the aha moments were just so dumbed down or misplaced (so yeah jin is alive but instead you build suspense to the appearance of rousseau, which 90% of us guessed when you showed us canisters on the beach with french on them like 15 minutes ago?) and the just plain useless and yawnworthy half the episode wasted on following the lawyer around for the big unsuprising ben reveal.

this episode sucked.

I hoped we were about to see Rousseau as soon as Locke asked if anyone spoke French... it's about time, I hope that this flash lasts long enough to give us some insight as to their story! Also, young Rosseau is so pretty! I totally agree that 16 years of boar meat could make Mira Furlan, who is still pretty in an emaciated and hair conditionerless sort of way.

Definitely a setup episode for some good stuff. I wonder how Locke or Ben will prove that Jin is alive to convince Sun to get back (not based on spoilers/previews but it's obvious, right?)

Anything involving Kate pretty much makes me eyeroll: Sawyer crying (though it was cool to see the "good old days"/birth of Aaron scene, that didn't get shown originally.. did it?) and Kate "always there for" Jack. BARF.

i am finding the O6 stuff OK altho this was pushing it. Sun gets such crap dialogue.

agree about the 'constants' idea being overplayed, think i would prefer this to not apply to so many people (or indeed anyone other than Desmond long-term).

the problem with the time jumps is how convenient they are. Jin could be sent anytime but no not only the same year as Danielle's arrival. obv no point using the concept otherwise but it's pushing it too close to credibility limit the more people they draw into it...unless the writers just say all the points people jump to are controlled and decided by the island (i'm OK with this tho ha).
