But please don't message her, I feel guilty for posting her profile here.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 4 September 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I need to find some photos of me that aren't me wearing weird outfits while v.drunk in bright light (or, uh, me in a gas mask running down a hallway in a derelict building). & have chosen a username other than "pumice-tron". & haha, ricardo's my 2nd-highest match in the world!

etc, Saturday, 4 September 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ok so forserious question -- when coldcalling/writing some cool person on one of these things, what works better -- short friendly note on some element of their profile (film, book, etc.) -- or longer streamaconsciousness friendly thang like you might write to someone you already know?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 5 September 2004 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

former gives em less to respond with, but latter can be overwhelming?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 5 September 2004 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I usually write a paragraph, saying what it is in their profile that has grabbed my interest (I suspect "It's your tits" wouldn't be good here) and makes me think we might perhaps be suited, and suggesting that they look at mine and if they'd like to talk, here's my email.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 5 September 2004 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

My #4 world match is an ILXOR. BUT WHICH ONE??

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 5 September 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Are we supposed to answer that?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 5 September 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

No!

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 5 September 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Well who is it? We're dying to know!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 5 September 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Casuistry!

80% for you, Tuomas. Rrr.
Also I seem to be 85% for Melissa W. Obviously OKCupid doesn't realise we would kill each other within 5 minutes if we ever met due to massive disagreements about which Bjork and Radiohead albums are good.

I REALLY ONLY SIGNED UP BECAUSE DOM ASKED ME WHAT TYPE I WAS. Ugh. Now I'm asking people who've wooed me how I should get my hair cut.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 5 September 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Tuomas, Ricardo and I seem to be nearly everyone's type, according to this thing. If only people in real life thought so. Uh, I mean about me, I'm sure the lovely Ricardo and Tuomas are pursued by gorgeous people endlessly.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 5 September 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I do seem to get a lot of nice comments through OKCupid, I wish it was like this in real life as well...

There seems to be a new feature there, you can add comments to a friend's profile (she'll have to accept them first, obviously). I tried it with my friend, it seems to be working, though there's some delay before you get to accept the comment.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 6 September 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't mean to say I don't get nice comments in real life, I do, just not in the romantic sense.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 6 September 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

For the first time in about three months on this thing I got a woo! I suddenly feel wanted.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 6 September 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I got the worst message ever. Someone called me "one sexy rodent". I wanted to delete my account, and then humanity.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 6 September 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Rodents are cute...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 6 September 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and then he asked if I wanted to "be [his] hamster man and ride [his] exercise wheel". Hence the urge to delete humanity.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 6 September 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Was it Richard Gere?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 6 September 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Not unless he's lying about his age.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 6 September 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I hardly ever get messages or even woos. What am I doing wrong?

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 6 September 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Is OKC down for anyone else?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 24 September 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Okcupid is turning into the Craigslist erotic services bulletin board:

(not work safe)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 27 September 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I deleted my account today. There are people I couldn't bear if they found me on there.

Ok, someone add me as a real friend so I look well adjusted

Free the Bee (ex machina), Monday, 27 September 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck, my sort of ex is my #1 match

Free the Bee (ex machina), Monday, 27 September 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Obviously it's time to revise that "sort of"...

JimD (JimD), Monday, 27 September 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I logged in today for the first time in FOREVER. All my answers to the questions looked retarded, as they were based on the old questions which have since been replaced. Hopefully I look like less of a dipshit now.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 27 September 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

The STRANGER ARRANGER!

Who has matches on their New Thing? I don't, bah.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 10 October 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

five months pass...
I've probably complained enough about how there are only ten people in Dublin, but my new okcupid crush putting up a photo of herself holding a ticket to Ronan's club is just taking the piss.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

haha ouch

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a flyer, not a ticket. she could have got it ANYWHERE.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah yeah, keep talking.

Haha it's not like I have a rival club across the street or anything. Memo to self..

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

foit?

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

haha for a moment I thought you were talking french, mark.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 March 2005 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
ok so grrr.. i keep getting top matches who are canonical bi/poly/goth/gamer/geek types.

okcupid and internet personals in general fuse my soul into a ball of angry angry wax. either everyone on them looks "oh, hey, they're too cool for me" or "omg what frikin losers, i would be bored with them in a minute" or "we are going to have zilch in common" just pretty much depending on my mood.

anyway, it makes me v.v. mad/confused that i keep getting matched with these types. of course, it seems like the only other types on the system in boston are all "omg i like sports and partying and going to bars with friends, and especially the SOX."

oh, right. i realized the problem.

this is boston.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

I logged into this and everything was just the same as I left it 3 or so years ago. It said I owned a house and had a BF. It was weird.

roxymuzak, Monday, 5 November 2007 06:05 (eighteen years ago)

Weird, I went back and deleted mine not 3 minutes ago!

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 5 November 2007 06:06 (eighteen years ago)

Haw! I never even saw yours, I don't think.

roxymuzak, Monday, 5 November 2007 06:13 (eighteen years ago)

Did you see Dom's

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 5 November 2007 06:20 (eighteen years ago)

I don't remember ever seeing it, but upthread I state that he is my lowest match of all time, or something.

roxymuzak, Monday, 5 November 2007 08:11 (eighteen years ago)

I'd all forgotten about OKCupid, but then a couple of months ago I got an email that I had an unread message there, which eventually lead to a date with the girl who messaged me. Not much came out of it though. Most of my local matches are still goths or LARPers, so I guess nothing's really changed.

Tuomas, Monday, 5 November 2007 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

forgive me, but what's a "LARPer"?

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 5 November 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

Use one google, Tuomas.

G00blar, Monday, 5 November 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, sorry. Force of habit.

G00blar, Monday, 5 November 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Someone who does Live Action Role Playing. They're a very noticable and irritating subculture in here (which obviously overlaps with some other subcultures, like goths or fantasy/sci-fi fans).

Tuomas, Monday, 5 November 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, I have nothing against roleplaying as such, but in my experience many LARPers think that this special hobby of theirs somehow makes them better than the common people. They even have a special condescending word for "mundane" people who don't larp.

Tuomas, Monday, 5 November 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

Where does Norwegian Death Metal fit into this equation?

xpost

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 5 November 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

three months pass...

so i haven't logged in to this place in like 2 years but randomly decided to today. how come like 90% of my matches are 5'6" and all the people that message me are 23?

tehresa, Monday, 18 February 2008 03:53 (eighteen years ago)

How come all the cute boys live in Chicago? Or, most of them.

Casuistry, Monday, 18 February 2008 04:23 (eighteen years ago)

The American ones, anyways.
