I don't think Charlotte is unstuck in time Desmond-style by the way, because then they tend to go blank and zombie-like for several minutes while their mind goes off to another era. Charlotte had been walking around perfectly fine, albeit with a headache and a nosebleed.

Charlotte isn't going blank because she's jumping through both time and space whereas Des is just jumping through time.

WAIT... this could mean that from the time-jumpers point of view they're "flashing" through time when in reality, they're actually taking a much longer time to jump from one era to another. so maybe by their latest flash, it HAS in fact been about three years since the island was moved.

Charlotte's also having memory issues, which could be a bit like Daniel's memory issues (and he prob had those because of his own experiments/exposure to radiation).

Was Alpert referring to Jacob when Locke told him that he was their leader in the future and Alpert replied that they choose their leader carefully etc and that they have a chain of command? Who is the chain?!!?!

Well, Locke had just told him that "Jacob sent me" so Richard was probably saying that Jacob doesn't just "send" us a new leader.

Problem with the Charlotte-is-being-erased theory is that, at least according to Faraday, things don't work like that in Lost-universe. The past can't be changed, he said, so that the Grandfather Paradox isn't an issue. At least I think that's what he said

But maybe Desmond's actions are doing it somehow.

I don't quite get the "Desmond is the only one immune from time's laws" deal-- in that Daniel was the one who actually changed the past by banging on the Hatch door and telling Desmond about his mom. Does this mean that anyone can change time when they are around Desmond, or just Daniel?

Does Des's immunity account for why he's the only one who left the island who seems to be having an okay life?

good job for the writers at making us talk entirely about characters who weren't even in the first season

i am still very interested in locke's story

I like how the mysteries of Lost are beginning to spill out into real life recently. Case in point: why is everyone trying to cover up the fact that Carbonell/Richard Alpert wears eyeliner?

A woman at work persists in watching 2 random minutes of Lost each week & then demanding that I explain them. This week it was: "This guy goes to visit some woman & he doesn't know she's in a coma. How would he not know that?"

Most of the S1 characters, except Locke and maybe Sun, are kind of pawns in the action now as opposed to dictating the plot. They're obviously all crucial now but there's not much mystery left to them any more and they're not in control of things in the way that Ben/Daniel/Widmore are.

I want more Miles in this by the way. If and when he stumbles across the Dharma Initiative mass grave it is really going to shit his brain.

want more miles too. i wish he had come in a season earlier - really dig his line delivery but he needs a lot more to do besides flinging zingers at everyone else. also there remains that question of why he wanted that $3.2 mil from Ben.

the other thing I was thinking last night. isn't it handy that Oxford University is just basically a cloister walk and a library? apparently the design was based on a Scottish wine making monastery

yeah, this is pony -- but when des visited faraday's lab rat, the street did look like it was shot on the wonderful island of great britain. maybe it was greenscreen.

re. all the "YOU AGAIN' talk @ faraday from the others -- couldn't the next time-jump take them to, say, 1953?

if the hot other with a gun was faraday's mum, wouldn't he recognize her, rather than just find her familiar? perhaps he's bluffing because it'd shit her mind, but then why remark on it at all? you'd think he'd have seen photos of his mother as a young woman.

he also said she looked like someone he used to know so it must be someone in his past, unless his mother and him had a falling out.

faraday's mum has to have had some connection to widmore, so it makes sense that it would be her. maybe widmore... is... his... dad...

entirely possible but i really hope he's not Faraday's dad... I can't explain why but i really hate the trope of half-siblings who don't know they're related on tv shows.

and we already had that with Jack and Claire anyway.

But if Widmore & the hot Other are Daniel's parents (and he taught at Oxford) how did he never manage to pick up an English accent?

hot Other married an American named Faraday and he grew up in the States? It doesn't preclude Widmore being his dad, although like I said, I really hope he isn't.

What with all the cameras and photo developing labs on the Island? If Widmore and she left the island in anything like the way Ben did, I doubt they took photo albums with them.

Since a lot of people were speculating that he was a pirate.

am i the only person who thought the first 30 mins of this episode totally sucked (for Lost)? some redemption at the end with the Locke/Alpert stuff but Daniel/Charlotte love stuff is so fucking lame and i am getting sick of his stoned/out-of-breath voice, just speak normally Dan. too many annoying haughty British accents too :(

according to Miles it's taken Widmore 20 years so far to find the island so i guess he defects from Richard who then adopts Ben who then banishes him from the island somehow after the Dharma v Hostile purge (but interested to see how Widmore comes to believe the island is his and why he appears to not respect Richard v much).

I would guess that Widmore believes he should have been chosen as the leader and perhaps Ben engineered his banishment because he called bullshit on Ben's claim of having been born on the island.

aw i kind of liked the corny Dan/Charlotte stuff although the "i said it because i meant it" exchange was some tv writer bullshit.

20 years would mean that Widmore was already off the island in the 80s, which is before the Dharma purge. i guess the island could've been moved once in the 80s which might explain how Rousseau and her crew crashed into it.

the way Daniel explained it I think any of the other characters could have banged on the hatch and roused Desmond but if it was, say, Kelvin in there it wouldn't have worked

or was it only possible for Daniel to do it because Dan and Desmond had met at Oxford? I dunno

I like the Dan/Charlotte love stuff because
1) it's people from the helicopter crew
2) we don't get the mushy backstory
3) what if she is just a relative?
4) Faraday saying "I'm definitely not Romeo"
5) It's not Jack/Sawyer/Kate/Juliet
(sudden question that came to my mind - does Faraday know Juliet from before? great another possible scenario...)

During casting, Charlotte was described as "a hot twentysomething ... precocious, loquacious and funny... a very successful academic who also knows how to handle herself in the real world". She also has "lots of repressed and pent-up emotions" beneath the surface. The chosen actress, Mader, was told to be a "female version of Indiana Jones"

and according to wiki: it was hard for fans to connect with Charlotte because "she arrived with an apparent mission and then didn't do it" and was disappointed to not get the opportunity to tell Charlotte's backstory during season four.

yeah her role was originally offered to Kristen Bell (who would've been great) but she went off to do Heroes instead.
