Isn't this new behavior for Hurley's visitations? Like they never had a makeover, or their own squad car before.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 29 January 2009 21:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Ghost of Charlie had a haircut and some natty new threads.

This series is going to revolve around Faraday the way the last one revolved around Ben, isn't it? He seems to be the key figure of the 'island's flashbacks' - think we'll get one time jump in every episode from now on. Can't wait til they run into Ben.

Charlotte had better not be dead, I want to know what the deal is with her backstory. Although admittedly her being dead won't actually prevent that, we'll see kid Charlotte at some point.

The bit about Locke creating this sort of self-fufilling fake Leader loop is a big deal I think. Seems to be distracting Richard from looking for the real Others Messiah or whatever (Walt, it's so clearly Walt).

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 January 2009 21:41 (fifteen years ago) link

well I have been told I make a good wingman.. but I do not adhere to the rules of the bro code!

I deserved that, PB

It'll be weird if Charlotte dies before we even really get to know her.

It happened to Zoe Bell's character who walked off the side of Widmore's boat (I'm still bitter about that).

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 29 January 2009 22:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, that was a real bummer. Stupid strike. :(

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 29 January 2009 22:26 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm still optimistic that they're going to bring her character back at some point, even if it is only within a flashback narrative.

Yes yes yes. This would be awesome.
Right at the start of this episode I was pissed off because I was sure it was another 'Jack flying kites in Thailand' box of crap. But no hurray it's still brilliant!

They really need to give Locke some better lines. "Or maybe... a more appropriate question would be... WHEN have I been, hner hner hner?" Idiot. Also Richard specifically told him that next time he saw him he wouldn't recognise him. So I guess somewhere (or... someWHEN) along the line from 1954 to now they worked out the time travelling thing to their advantage.

Who was the mysterious guy poking around Faraday's lab?

Lol from lostpedia:
"After instructing her to push, Penny successfully gives birth to a baby boy, which leads the couple to kiss and profess their love to each other. "

I thought Zoe Bell was only cast so she could jump off the side of the freighter?

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 January 2009 23:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Sadly yes - and to talk over the radio in random episodes. God knows why they put her in the opening credits for Season 4 if that's all they were going to give her.

some low-level widmore flunky I figured

dmr, Thursday, 29 January 2009 23:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Has anyone dead reappeared who was not buried on the island? Maybe the island makes zombies, and locke needs to be interred so he can join zombieland.

Maybe Jacob is zombie Locke from the future? Jeremy Bentham Locke = Jacob Elk Hymen Meter. Didn't Locke shoot an Elk with his fake dad?

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 29 January 2009 23:30 (fifteen years ago) link

I just fucking realized that the Penny/Dez baby could actually be named after its grandfather.

I actually like the fact that characters introduced in SSNs 2 (Des, Ben) 3 (Alpert) & 4 (Faraday, Miles?) have become as integral to the show as the original 815ers are. Faraday hasn't even had a proper flashback episode & he's a better character than all of the original 815ers save Locke.

President Keyes, Friday, 30 January 2009 01:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Faraday is great. Liked the love story even with him. Great actor.

I'm also sorrt Finefinemusic for mockery, nothing personal, just dumb goofing off on a thread.

ok that is definitely something
they would NOT go all l&o repeat offenders style with something where every detail is so important, would they?

i know a lady who was an extra two or three times before getting a speaking role and she said that they now (season 4 onward i guess)no longer re-use actors or extras for even the smallest parts unless its intentional

gr8080, Friday, 30 January 2009 01:14 (fifteen years ago) link

the other thing I was thinking last night. isn't it handy that Oxford University is just basically a cloister walk and a library? apparently the design was based on a Scottish wine making monastery

x-post I wanted Widmore to be 500 year old son of Alvar Hanso or something yeah

ok how baout the painting in widmore's office:

# The painting in the receptionist's area outside Charles Widmore's office appears to have been inspired by Jackson Pollock. Jughead aired on Pollock's birthday.
# The same painting as previously seen in "Flashes Before Your Eyes" can be seen on Widmore's right wall in his office, at the opposite of where it used to be several years prior. This painting has the phrase "Namaste" painted on it, along with a polar bear and what appear to be mountains and palm trees in the background.

did they intentionally not pick 1955 to avoid back to the future crossover paradox?

Philip Nunez, Friday, 30 January 2009 02:26 (fifteen years ago) link

In the season four premiere, the first scene with Faraday has him crying in front of that TV report about the fake flight 815 discovery, and isn't there a woman's voice in the background who you don't get to see on camera? That'll be his girlfriend from this episode, then.

The most lolsome moment this week was Desmond parking his boat on a badly-CGIed jetty in the middle of the Thames right next to the London Eye.

James Mitchell, Friday, 30 January 2009 05:46 (fifteen years ago) link

guys you're kind of missing the obvious connection here: the episode is called "jughead"

jughead - hurley (NOT in the episode, significantly)
archie - jack
mr weatherbee - locke (bald)
betty - juliet
veronica - kate (perfect love triangle there)
reggie - sawyer
dilton - faraday
mr. lodge - widmore

i mean it breaks down perfectly

s1ocki, Friday, 30 January 2009 09:15 (fifteen years ago) link

How long do you think it will be before we get to see Island Future? I reckon quite a way through the series and that the Oceanic Six will be in it, on the Island. My current theory is that in leaving the Island, the O6 have broken with the future they're supposed to have and the Island is going haywire as a result, and that's what will kill Sawyer/Juliet etc if they don't go back. I'm pretty sure this isn't an original theory but can't remember where I heard it first.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 January 2009 09:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Love the Namaste painting, it looks like the top of a face next to the polar bear - maybe Locke's? Or Jacob... or maybe it's just a monkey.

Not the real Village People, Friday, 30 January 2009 12:30 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm wondering-- the Others pretty quickly picked off a team of US Soldiers. I wonder why it took them so long to oust Dharma. Perhaps they didn't perceive Dharma as a threat initially. I wonder if Dharma built the security fence right when they first showed up or after their fighting with the Others began.

President Keyes, Friday, 30 January 2009 12:58 (fifteen years ago) link

i thought the island was going haywire because ben moved it with a freaking donkey wheel! maybe he just did not return it to its proper position so it's glitching every now and then.

tehresa, Friday, 30 January 2009 13:34 (fifteen years ago) link

about the frozen donkey wheel... richard didn't seem to know about the island's time-travel capabilities when he met locke, which begs the question - if the Others didn't know about the donkey wheel, then who built it? It seemed that Dharma only built a time machine on top of it but that the wheel itself was much, much older.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 30 January 2009 15:46 (fifteen years ago) link

also i think the time-jumpers are going to start mentally time-jumping - five-year-old locke drew the smoke-monster which could be because he was getting memories from his future.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 30 January 2009 16:01 (fifteen years ago) link

think that goes back to how or why the island has powers in the first place .... seems like humans didn't invent the powers, they just discovered em

probably will have something to do with the Temple, the giant foot statue, and the explanation of who/what Jacob is

xpost - interesting

dmr, Friday, 30 January 2009 16:03 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe all those flashbacks were really time jumps!
not likely but would be lol.

tehresa, Friday, 30 January 2009 16:27 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm still postulating that the island is an alien spaceship and Jacob is the computer.

I really liked the circular existence of the compass. I'm looking forward to future plotlines invovling Jughead in the future. You don't introduce a sword in act 1 if it's not used in act 3. The Locke leader self-prophecy theory upthread is a good one.

Is Faraday trying to make himself Charlotte's constant with his sweet talk?

Carl Magnusssen (petey_carnum), Friday, 30 January 2009 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

certainly he knows better than that since he is desmond's!

tehresa, Friday, 30 January 2009 16:47 (fifteen years ago) link

he can be both? desmond's constants are faraday and penny.

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 30 January 2009 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Penny is Desmond's constant, Desmond is Faraday's constant. As far as we know they only have one each.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 January 2009 17:08 (fifteen years ago) link

oh id idn't realize constants weren't mutual!

tehresa, Friday, 30 January 2009 17:13 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't think Charlotte is unstuck in time Desmond-style by the way, because then they tend to go blank and zombie-like for several minutes while their mind goes off to another era. Charlotte had been walking around perfectly fine, albeit with a headache and a nosebleed.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 January 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe she just has really sensitive nasal arteries

max, Friday, 30 January 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Or a bad coke habit.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 January 2009 17:18 (fifteen years ago) link

Charlotte isn't going blank because she's jumping through both time and space whereas Des is just jumping through time.

WAIT... this could mean that from the time-jumpers point of view they're "flashing" through time when in reality, they're actually taking a much longer time to jump from one era to another. so maybe by their latest flash, it HAS in fact been about three years since the island was moved.

Charlotte's also having memory issues, which could be a bit like Daniel's memory issues (and he prob had those because of his own experiments/exposure to radiation).

Disco/Very (Roz), Friday, 30 January 2009 17:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Was Alpert referring to Jacob when Locke told him that he was their leader in the future and Alpert replied that they choose their leader carefully etc and that they have a chain of command? Who is the chain?!!?!

gustywindsmayexist, Friday, 30 January 2009 17:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, Locke had just told him that "Jacob sent me" so Richard was probably saying that Jacob doesn't just "send" us a new leader.
