one of the reasons i think juliana is good at rock music is she knows how to say things like 'baby' and 'yeah' correctly

Being called "baby" as far as I'm personally concerned = huge, huge dud. Conversely in regards to That Girl's comments, I actually prefer being called "mi'ja" (a contraction for the Spanish words for "my daughter", i.e. "mi hija"), but only if my actual parents are calling me that. If I heard anyone else calling me "mi'ja", I'd scream.

That Girl, you come from a Latino family? Or has the culture so pervaded the state of Texas that now everyone's calling their daughters "mi'ja"?

When I think of someone calling their girlfriend/boyfriend "baby", I think of someone slightly suspect, i.e. they're either going to be the clingiest people on Earth or they have a weird child fetish that inches toward the land of pedophilia or they're just huge sleazoids. I kinda like Ling ("Ally McBeal" character) Woo's approach to nicknames in relationships, in that I don't mind having a nickname that comes from a food name. I would welcome being called "honey", "snickerdoodle", "pumpkin", "cupcake", or any of the other relationship-connected food nicknames you could think of.

(Yeah, yeah. Weird me again. *grin*)

I don't care for "baby" at all - but I love many other terms of endearment and tend to use them far too often (though many are reserved for just special people). I liek the food terms, too, such as 'moi petit choux' (the *only* thing I recall from high shcool French, sadly).

But I must admit that I do like this song.

Now that I've lost everything to you
You say you wanna start something new
And it's breakin' my heart you're leavin'
Baby, I'm grievin'
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
I'll always remember you like a child, girl

You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do
And it's breakin' my heart in two
Because I never wanna see you a sad girl
Don't be a bad girl
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

Chorus

Baby, I love you
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

Chorus

Dee, yes I'm Hispanic. My Mexican boyfriends always called me "Mija" and this bothered me.

Nowadays I call *everyone* sweetie, honey, baby. . .I hope they don't mind.
