kinda jealous but would also be disappointed that he's not just like Ben

is it likely that Locke (or anyone) could run into THEMSELVES on the island? i'm thinking kinda cliched scenes where they have to avoid being seen by their previous self but save them somehow - probably best not to start doing that but when they're shifting back in time it's so inviting

also would like to see how Richard finds out the O6 did make it back home (as he revealed to Locke). presumably he jumps fwd in time and off the island? more like Desmond than Ben presumably.

i just can't get enough of Ben's face there - truly an acting masterclass

You know, one of the things that really bothers me about this show is how there will be extended periods of time when nothing spooky happens. This is an island with a giant smoke monster, weird voices, ghosts, a terrifying specter that lives in a creepy shack, etc., etc., and yet everyone on the island seems totally cool with it now. Juliet, who to my knowledge had never lived on the island until the end of Season 3, doesn't seem to be experiencing any weirdness. Smokey and the crazy alarm sounds haven't been used in awhile, even though the castaways are in the past, back when it might have still been normal for them to be used (or polar bears or etc.). Yet it seems like they're just traipsing around the island without any worries apart from the other people on the island, despite having no weapons or tools to speak of.

Juliet has been on the island much longer than the Oceanic passengers!

I thought she lived on the island next to the island.

no, the others' village was on the main island, the research facilities were on the second island

Right, so how come the Others don't hear voices, is my main question.

Is that a phenomenon created by the Others?

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Monday, 26 January 2009 18:47 (fifteen years ago) link

Juliet showed a lot of fear the night she and Kate were handcuffed together & faced Smokey (but some may have been acting since we later learn she handcuffed herself to Kate)

What about the scene where Juliet runs into the therapist lady - Goodwin's wife in the jungle? There were whispers in that scene, did she react to them? Anyone remember?

I think "how come the Others don't hear voices" is one of the reasons we are watching the show - the others give almost nothing away about themselves which makes us want to know! ;)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 26 January 2009 18:55 (fifteen years ago) link

The voices pertain to Smokey, which to the best of my recollection the Others have no control over (except Ben, who can sort of summon him).

I'm looking at this map:

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/lostpedia/images/6/6e/Islandmap2gs3.jpg

Thinking about early in the show when someone found the cable (Sayid, I think?), which was eventually used to find the underwater station, correct? But wouldn't anyone walking on that beach have noticed the Hydra station? Later when Sawyer, Jack and Kate are imprisoned, Kate (?) seems pretty surprised to discover she's on another island.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Monday, 26 January 2009 19:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Something weird about that map--the station they found by following the cable was the Looking Glass, right?

President Keyes, Monday, 26 January 2009 20:27 (fifteen years ago) link

A lot of the maps seem to have a good deal of guesswork:

Where did that crater come up in the show? That must be significant rite?

They mentioned a volcano in Ben's childhood flashback.

Where have the rivers on the north end of the Island ever been mentioned? They're on almost all of the maps.

gr8080, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 00:35 (fifteen years ago) link

these maps are based on Rousseau's original drawings right? that's probably where the rivers and crater are from. this one seems like the most accurate to me: http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Image:TheLostMap_version_P.png

xpost whoa

Disco/Very (Roz), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 00:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Hmm, that one has the cable in a totally different place.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 01:35 (fifteen years ago) link

it seems about right though, just thinking back through the episodes and how much time they took to walk from one place to another, and where the other places are relative to the beach - the cable is definitely much nearer to, and the Hydra island further from, the castaways' camp than what the first map shows.

(btw, i don't really think it's that useful to think about this too much because like you said, a lot of these maps seem to rely on guesswork mostly).

Does anyone else here listen to LOST podcasts? Most of them are pure lameness but the Dharma Dummies is pretty thoughtful & well produced. They specialize in multi-part character analysis episodes.

I guess they're doing the is-he-evil-or-not again with Faraday but at least he's a better character than Juliet. I still love how he lets the truth out at odd moments.

I'm actually a little disappointed that Alpert doesn't know what's going on at all points in time (future/past/present).

They obviously weren't hiding very far away in the first place if it only took two days to SAIL to Oxford.

It was kind of a dumb season 2 LOST trick to pull, and I guess they wanted to set up the cutesy omg the baby's called CHARLIE thing at the end. Would've rather had more Miles time.

When do you think they are now? The camp was gone, and that valley looks just like the one where the Barracks are/will be, have they gone FURTHER back?

Widmore definitely doesn't want Desmond (& Penny) mixed up in this funny business because he knows Ben is involved and Ben vowed to kill Penny.

GLEEPGLOP BLOOPBLORP (nickalicious), Thursday, 29 January 2009 03:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Richard gets made because Locke doesn't recognize the compass John gives him, continues to test him over and over again to validate the fact that Richard saw Locke disappear before his very eyes & believe he was sent by Jacob which Locke wasn't, really - seems like he is almost managing to engineer his own fate! Telling Alpert he will be his leader in 50 years makes him the leader in 50 years. Love it.

Ellie = Eloise? Eloise Hawking, LA psychic/monk? Anyway good work upthread suggesting Daniel just might not know that his mom is not in Oxford.. but if that is his Mom, she's in cahoots with Ben and presumably Widmore as well? Looks dangerous.

My friend was speaking over the coma lady scene, how did Desmond know that that woman isn't Faraday's mom?

Latin, really? Others school? I like Juliette's cynical jokes but it would be nice to learn a few reasons why the Others are as bizarre as they are..though I guess we have some time to see what comes.

LOVED the turn at the end with Charles Widmore (and man was that guy hot! Reminded me of the actor who played Ian Curtis in Control?) being on the island from a young age. My guess is that sometime after Dharma lands and starts digging to create these hatches, the incident will occur (buried hydrogen bomb?) and Widmore will have to turn the wheel to fix/save the island. Did the bomb's location look familiar to anyone? I am bad with those kind of details but it could be what wasbehind that wall that Sayid likened to Chernobyl in the first hatch.

I wonder why the Others would have taken over that camp left behind by the military who'd attacked them, if they are natives? It's never really gotten into, where they sleep and camp.. I also wonder about Widmore's readiness to snap the other guy's neck and run off - seems against all the principles of the others that we know now. Maybe Widmore gets tossed off the island for this kind of behaviour?

lolsiest line for me = sawyer going "you told her?!"

max, Thursday, 29 January 2009 04:02 (fifteen years ago) link

kind of interesting thing posted on a forum I go to (none of this is mine, I just like the idea. I didn't see the preview, though, it didn't air on my channel)

We saw Sawyer in the previews say he saw Kate. I'm thinking that they end up in a time during season 2. When all the other survivors are still on the island.
Remeber when Kate walked out of the hatch and saw the Black Horse? What she really saw was Sawyer, only seeing Sawyer would create a Paradox, so either the Island or her own mind replaced it with somthing else she has loved in her past, the Black Horse. Im sure next episode Sawyer will sneak off to try and get supplies from the hatch, this is when it will happen.
This explains Eko seeing Yemi, and probaly Hurley seeing Dave. They were just replacement memories to avoid paradox's. Remeber when Yemi said to Eko "You speak to me as if I was your brother." I'm thinking this is somone with bad intentions, attempting to stop Eko from doing somthing.
Same with Dave and Hurley. Dave tried to kill Hurley by getting him to jump off the Cliff. Im thinking somone is time traveling on the island and attempting to kill Hurley to prevent a future event.
Same can be said for Christian leading Jack off a cliff. The Christian we saw then was nothing like the one we've seen in season 4. This christian looked like Bernie from weekend at Bernies, not speaking, and looking like a zombie. In season 4 he was talking, and seemed like the real Christian. It was somone Jack couldnt see with out creating a paradox.

Im positive about the Black Horse, the other examples just go along with the theory.

What does everyone think?

P.S. Props to everyone who said Libby and Faraday have a connection. Nice call.

My friend was speaking over the coma lady scene, how did Desmond know that that woman isn't Faraday's mom?

what, the woman in the coma? she was too young to be faraday's mom .... desmond just went to see her because of the guy's comment ("after what he did to that woman" ... i.e. got her permanently unstuck in time). it was the only breadcrumb he could follow on his faraday trail
