If the island is dislodged from time, why would it disappear?

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link

could be the others that were around when the island went http://tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:4bVK-5JPpTGdMM:http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h212/mkalfus/How%2520to%2520Find%2520the%2520Island/IslandDisappears2.jpg are unstuck in time too and locke et al are just running into the past versions of them

ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:52 (fifteen years ago) link

desmond is dislodged from time. the island is dislodged from space. the castaways are dislodged from time and space.

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:54 (fifteen years ago) link

in 2007 the island exists, it's just not where it was (near indonesia or wherever) anymore.

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:56 (fifteen years ago) link

this makes it seem like the island is moving in space (jumping all around the ocean), not just time

dmr, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago) link

relative to the island the castaways arent dislodged in space tho - theyre just riding it around

ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:58 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah they're moving with the island, but also with time.

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:58 (fifteen years ago) link

alpert is not affected (meaning he is not transported during the time shifts.) he told locke next time he saw him, he (alpert) wouldn't know who he was.

surely if locke went into the future alpert would know who he was? or why wouldn't he? (unless there's some reason for this that alpert just hasn't explained yet)

Local Garda, Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:10 (fifteen years ago) link

alpert is def cosmic

ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:11 (fifteen years ago) link

i refuse to discuss alpert unless we return to calling him BATMANUEL

Lindelof: When we first saw dailies of Nestor, we said, “We gotta talk to him about the eyeliner situation.” [But] he is completely sans makeup.

wonder where vincent is and if he's time-travelling too. That would be one confused dog.

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 22 January 2009 18:48 (fifteen years ago) link

as far as i'm concerned, bernard, rose, and vincent can fucking die

cutty, Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Vincent was on the beach in the scene where Frogurt bites it.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:04 (fifteen years ago) link

actually for a second, i thought that the dog that really looked like vincent on the first t-shirt hurley looked at (not the i <3 shih-tzu one) was about to start talking to him.

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:08 (fifteen years ago) link

funny he found a size XXXXXXXXXL shirt in a gas station

cutty, Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:13 (fifteen years ago) link

where else would you buy a shirt that big

8====D ------ ㋡ (max), Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, the Rose/Bernard stuff from last night is pissing me off. They're changing the way the characters have been written up to this point.

WmC, Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:15 (fifteen years ago) link

The shirt INSIDE the gas station was not at all the same shirt as OUTSIDE the gas station.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:22 (fifteen years ago) link

I thought Hurley telling his mother about the island was way over-written too. Okay Hurley is a bit dumb but he's not a 3 year old child, he's not going to be telling an obviously hard to believe story and be all "andthentherewasasmokemonster and then and then and then we pushed a button to save the world" etc etc...

Local Garda, Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:27 (fifteen years ago) link

ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:31 (fifteen years ago) link

i thought that scene was more of the writers being meta like "yes we do know that when you put it all together this series is completely batshit insane".

Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:32 (fifteen years ago) link

^agreed, it was obviously overlabored for that metajoke factor. But at the same time, I was honestly touched by it, Garcia's performance was one of his best in the series. The character clearly cares so much about his mother, and he knows he's going to tell this story that's totally illogical and impossible when everyone already thinks he's totally crazy - Hurley's giving up this last piece of dignity in a way.

Nhex, Thursday, 22 January 2009 19:36 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah there was definitely an element of meta to that Hurley scene, but I didn't like it. I think sometimes the episodes are flailing all over the place tempowise (esp at this stage of the seasons) and they never know how much of who and what and when to use but I still enjoy Lost a great deal, it's v ambitious to do what they do which I guess explains these failings.

Also, how awesome was Sawyer slapping Faraday, then telling Charlotte, "Quiet, Ginger, or you're getting one too!" It's like he stepped right out of a Bogart movie for a second.

Also I have to say Sun's "I want revenge" thing and Sun in general now seems utterly boring. Kill her off asap. I don't want to watch high powered meetings between her and Widmore.

Dude you think that all the female characters are boring and should be killed off! Except Juliet, who is like the most boring of all of them. TBH high-powered business-bitch Sun is pretty much the first time she's been interesting in five seasons - I bet she knows all sorts of hidden secret shit now, and we kind of need a Widmore ally to keep the plot moving.

I thought the first episode of this was like OMG WAU! and the second was just pretty good. I like the new format, I can't really see what good flashbacks would do from now on except for freighter dudes and maybe Ben. I liked Daniel's de facto leader status as the only guy who know's what's going on, but the time-jumping could get annoying after a while.

The link between him and Desmond is way cool. Presumably Hatch Desmond didn't recognise Daniel for the same reason Later Island Desmond didn't recognise Daniel despite seeing him at Oxford - weird Constant relationship and all that.

Who were the British guys who amushed Sawyer and Juliet at some point? Dharma dudes?

I love how Richard has picked up Ben's mantle of being comedy condescending to Locke. "What's the compass for?" - "It points North, John."

And most importantly - would smash Ana-Lucia.
