Boston is better than either Newark, NJ or Newark, DE. except that cigarettes in Newark, DE cost $2 less per pack than they do in Boston. and not only can you smoke in bars in Newark, NJ, they apparently don't care if you drink or smoke crack in the streets over there.

kephm, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 20:12 (twenty years ago) link

Boston is better than Phoenix, I will give it that, except Phoenix does not have the Red Sox.

Miami sucks dicks, we went down there for the Orange Bowl and got destroyed by Nebraska, that whole trip was for shit except New Year's in the hotel on the athletic department dollar. I think I am the only person who did not throw up & I drank 3 bottles of champagne by myself, good times.

One time we were leaving the hotel and there was crime scene tape all over the lobby! Fantastic! Also all the parking lots were full of dealers in low riders just sitting there.

I boycotted FedEx for a year.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 20:20 (twenty years ago) link

FUCK YOU BLOUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell did you need FedEx for that that boycott was for shit, Tom?

Mariah Carey, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 20:21 (twenty years ago) link

So wait, the Hurricanes are still allowed to play in the NCAA? I thought they were a pro team now.

two weeks pass...
You people who don't like Boston? Please, please go the hell back to wherever it is you come from,or find someplace you DO like. I'm sick of the T being crowded by all the NY BU students who complain about everything. Hello? Go to Columbia,or wherever. It's too crowded here now,so that would make everybody happier, especially me. Nobody has to stay here...why live in such misery? Those of us who belong here like it,and know the places to go. It's not for everybody, but it suits me just fine.
Peace

Siobhan O'Neill, Monday, 10 November 2003 22:51 (twenty years ago) link

Warm, welcoming Boston residents, we love you so.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 10 November 2003 23:49 (twenty years ago) link

my two pennoth.

i've never lingered in boston for more than three days at a time, so i don't think i'm qualified to say that it's a wondrous or horrendous place. or a wax-wane twixt-tween mélange of the two.

i can say that, thus far in my lil' lilypad life, boston is the only city in which a cab driver and a waitress succeeded in making me cry.
then again, i was rather emotionally unstable at the time of my visit.
moreso than usual.

at any rate, i've no desire to return to boston.
i found it to be a doomgloomy place.

a sleepyshy speck o' sillysnow, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 00:09 (twenty years ago) link

So is this FAP on or what for the 21st?

Chris Hungus (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 12:18 (twenty years ago) link

I did go to Columbia, you fucktard! Fuck your "UMass"!!! Haha!

I think it's still on?? I have to find out some stuff first. This is probably gonna be a last minute decision :/

Allyzay, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:33 (twenty years ago) link

If I still have money, I will be there.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 14:34 (twenty years ago) link

U Mass -- many moons ago, when i was a high-school senior, U Mass Amherst offered me a full ride scholarship and a place in their honors program had i gone. which shows what idjits they are, offering a dumb-ass like myself such a deal! (my dumb-assedness adequately demonstrated by turning down said deal to go to rutgers, who paid for nothing!)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:26 (twenty years ago) link

A DOOMGLOOMY PLACE !!!!!

kephm, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:30 (twenty years ago) link

can you feel the flange?

kephm, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:36 (twenty years ago) link

UMass Amherst is for suckas.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:37 (twenty years ago) link

i agree ... i wanted to go to Amherst College, but i was too stupid to get in!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 16:37 (twenty years ago) link

I'm working at getting a reservation right now for one of the Boston hotels. I think Millar and I will be in appearance. BUT it'd have to be on the 22nd (Saturday) cos there's pretty much no way he could make it up here/I can get out of work/we can make it up there in time for a reasonable get together (considering Boston closes much earlier than NYC does and we'd have to find hotel/check in/bbq sauce/etc), unless we are being invited to an all-nite HOUSE PARTY AT DAN'S!!! So Saturday the 22nd, anyone? Cos it's like a done deal, we're in.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:45 (twenty years ago) link

RAWK.

I don't think we have any BBQ sauce, tho.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:47 (twenty years ago) link

That's what room service is for!!

Allyzay, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:48 (twenty years ago) link

Is it wrong I'm sitting here laughing now?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:48 (twenty years ago) link

I thought that "sitting around laughing for no reason" was your normal demeanor, Ned.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:49 (twenty years ago) link

yes I was hoping for the 22nd. Cuz, Im an old fart and in bed at 9pm on Fridays. Damn, I'd have a house party at my house but captain grumpy in the condo underneath me won't have "loud music cheering at all hours" anymore.

And I have some free bbq sauce i can offer you. But there is a catch...its involves peppercorns.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:50 (twenty years ago) link

The cruelest catch of all!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:51 (twenty years ago) link

I thought that "sitting around laughing for no reason" was your normal demeanor, Ned.

This is true, actually.

The cruelest catch of all!

Just be cautious.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:52 (twenty years ago) link

and Al B.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:52 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah, I have that problem in my apartment too, Chris. I once got accused of having an orgy when in actuality we were screaming at someone to stop eating all our pizza and doing elaborate dance routines to "Baby One More Time" :/

OK so the 22nd, now you Bostonites pick a place to go.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:54 (twenty years ago) link

well, now where are we going to have this thing? preferrably somewhere you can hear each other talk and swear.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:54 (twenty years ago) link

Also there should be dancing involved!!

Allyzay, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:55 (twenty years ago) link

Well me screaming at the top of my lungs "I'm Cat Stevens mother fucker" out the window at 3am doesn't help the cause.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:56 (twenty years ago) link

Ally, where will you be staying. I'm trying to think of places within walking...cab distance. Cuz, the T sucks.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 18:57 (twenty years ago) link

Staying at the Ritz = Back Bay/The Alley?

Dan's shortlist:

Flash's (where we started out last time)
The Rattlesnake (aka Yuppie meat-market, but cheap beer for the neighborhood)
Club Cafe ("I WANNA TAKE TO YOU TO THE GAY BAR!" plus they have dancing)
Jillian's (where we ended up last time; not walking distance, I know)

There are also a bunch of places in the Financial District but be warned that if Jose McIntyre's comes up I may cry like a little baby.

If Cambridge is an option, there's also The Druid, The Field, Miracle of Science, The Plough and Stars, The Middle East, John Harvard's, and Phoenix Landing.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 19:04 (twenty years ago) link

Rattlesnake doesn't exist anymore...its now "George". But I think they are reopening it above George. That place across from Jose Macs is ok. I can't think of the name again. Now I need to convince my friend to come, so I have a place to pass out.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 19:07 (twenty years ago) link

It's already open, I work across the street from it!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 19:09 (twenty years ago) link

oops.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 19:10 (twenty years ago) link

I was just at George two weeks ago and didn't even notice.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 November 2003 19:10 (twenty years ago) link

There are two Ritzes and also the Phillips Club. I don't know at this point which I'm staying in, the girl who does reservations is working on it to see which one has best availability (=least amount of $$$$). But they're all pretty near each other? The addresses:

3 Avery St
10 Avery St
15 Arlington St

One of those three addresses. The Avery St ones are the nicer (read: newer) ones so hopefully there!!

Allyzay, Tuesday, 11 November 2003 19:13 (twenty years ago) link

Ain't nothin wrong with the Arlington one....cripes.
