i never got the impression he was working for him because he LIKED him, just because he had something on him.

i assumed it was cause ben had him convinced he was doing the right thing ie protecting his friends getting revenge on baddies etc

yes but he's not following his credo to hurley of "whatever benjamin linus says, do the opposite"

Alan Dale can do an American accent pretty well, but Widmore last night kept slipping into Dale's native Australian.

Mixed feelings about this, but I remember feeling the same way after the openers in other seasons too.
It was great in parts but can't help they're digging a big hole of boring non island stuff to fill half the series, eg the effort to get Kate/Hurley/Sun to agree to go back. I found myself waiting for the parts back on the island mostly as the other bits are a bit too real world.
Also I have to say Sun's "I want revenge" thing and Sun in general now seems utterly boring. Kill her off asap. I don't want to watch high powered meetings between her and Widmore.
I mean did anyone else just groan when Hurley ran to the police as it's hard to imagine the storyline of him inevitably being broken out of jail/wherever being in any way interesting? Surely it's clear as day they're all going to go back one way or another.
I assume Sawyer/Juliette love interest is on the cards v soon.
― Local Garda, Thursday, 22 January 2009 16:58 (fifteen years ago) link
also Ana Lucia appearing was so fucking obvious and then "libby says hi" made me cringe!
but yeah I'm not utterly hating, I have faith, the openers are never as big as the finales I guess, takes a while to reset the scene and get the plots developing and intertwining again.
― Local Garda, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:02 (fifteen years ago) link
aw libby says hi was great

when desmond sees faraday why doesnt he remember him.
this is the most important point I think. he had really met Daniel (at a REALLY IMPORTANT time in his life in the past) but they treated it like he was meeting him for the first time.
― dmr, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link
maybe that was desmond traveling back in time
― ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:13 (fifteen years ago) link
i think thats all going to be waved away with some kind of "desmond is weird" which is fine by me i guess
― 8====D ------ ㋡ (max), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link
lol at the end of the recap episode when the producers were all we are glad were entering a phase where we start to answer questions instead of ask them
― ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link
I kinda thought Sayid first hated Ben, then worked for him, then at some point (that we haven't seen yet) broke with him and started hating him again

who is Ben's crew at the meat market? we're not supposed to know any of them right

FINALLY! downloading this shit took way too long - anyone know of a good t0rr3nt/r4pidsh4re/str3aming site so i can watch this earlier next week?
some thoughts: 1. time church lady = Faraday's mom, right?2. I was LOL frogurt's wearing a red shirt then BAM fireball to the chest.3. Ana Lucia was awesome, c'mon.4. Desmond being special/different sort of explains a bit about "The Constant". Remember when we couldn't figure out whether or not that message "Desmond Hume will be your constant" had always been there or whether it had just appeared in 2004 and why neither Faraday/Desmond remembered each other? i think we know now - Faraday realized he had a new memory when he saw that message, which is how he knew Desmond was special. Des successfully changed the past. 5. Richard Alpert giving Locke the compass - "what item already belongs to you??" - from the dalai lama initiation episode? 6. Kate and Aaron scenes are truly annoying. 7. Miles totally talked to dead boar's ghost.8. ugh at blatant setting up of Juliet/Sawyer shipping. Jawyer? 9. Time-jumps + ben saying they can never leave once they go back = adam and eve are so jack and kate.

1. time church lady = Faraday's mom, right?
yeah. also the lady who wouldn't sell Des the wedding ring in that one ep.

hey also did you guys catch in the catch-up when producers said 'sun thinks her husband is dead'?????
― tehresa, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:32 (fifteen years ago) link
hahaha yeah. lol, spoilers.
― dmr, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:35 (fifteen years ago) link
instead of saying "and jin is tragically blown to bits" they said something like "and now Sun is torn apart believing her husband died in that blast"
adam and eve are so jack and kate.

yah i just assumed this all along
― ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:36 (fifteen years ago) link
the important thing on a narrative/character level is that sun *thinks* that jin is dead - it's the thing that drives her to go up against widmore and orchestrate a takeover of her dad's company.

they speculated that the stuff they had with them when the original flash happened follows them wherever they go through time - so i guess things theyre touching hop through time too? lockes bullet would imply that they can continue to gather things
ya didn't daniel say they had to go somewhere man-made? so if they entered a hatch would the hatch come with them the next time it flashed?
― Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:43 (fifteen years ago) link
Technically, isn't the camp man-made?
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:43 (fifteen years ago) link
So what's the deal with Alpert then? He isn't affected by the island moving?
x-post didn't Faraday just want to see something man made cos you know, nobody "built" a tree in 1968
― Local Garda, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:44 (fifteen years ago) link
he just wanted to go somewhere made made to figure out WHEN they were - prob they have to be touching stuff to take it w/them - ie they were in the boat their clothes were on them
― ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:45 (fifteen years ago) link
alpert is not affected (meaning he is not transported during the time shifts.) he told locke next time he saw him, he (alpert) wouldn't know who he was.
― cutty, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:47 (fifteen years ago) link
he wanted to see something manmade just to gauge what time they were in I thought. not that it helped much
seemed like none of the Others were affected, in that group only Locke jumped in time
xposts
― dmr, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:47 (fifteen years ago) link
Alpert's an original inhabitant (like Ethan, Dharma dudes etc.) Seems like the time-jumps only affect Oceanic castaways and freighter ppl. xposts
― Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:49 (fifteen years ago) link
crazy xposting sorry.
If the island is dislodged from time, why would it disappear?
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:50 (fifteen years ago) link
could be the others that were around when the island went http://tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:4bVK-5JPpTGdMM:http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h212/mkalfus/How%2520to%2520Find%2520the%2520Island/IslandDisappears2.jpg are unstuck in time too and locke et al are just running into the past versions of them
― ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:52 (fifteen years ago) link
desmond is dislodged from time. the island is dislodged from space. the castaways are dislodged from time and space.
― Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:54 (fifteen years ago) link
in 2007 the island exists, it's just not where it was (near indonesia or wherever) anymore.
― Disco/Very (Roz), Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:56 (fifteen years ago) link
this makes it seem like the island is moving in space (jumping all around the ocean), not just time

relative to the island the castaways arent dislodged in space tho - theyre just riding it around
― ice cr?m, Thursday, 22 January 2009 17:58 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah they're moving with the island, but also with time.
