my ballot feels like it's going to be 70% shorts atm, lol

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:32 (twelve years ago) link

watched a ton of those Disney shorts recently, pretty much all the ones from 1938 on with Goofy, Donald and Mickey are aces

did you already cover Clockcleaners? and the one where Goofy excercises?

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:40 (twelve years ago) link

omg the exercising Goofy one is A+, I forgot about that

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:41 (twelve years ago) link

In my dim hazy memory I know there are at least two different shorts (not sure of the studios involved) that involve a lion roaring over and over again in the jungle -- one of them wasn't all that imo, but the other one was so hysterically funny I was on the edge of wetting my pants. I haven't seen either of them in at least 30 years, but if I run across the funny one, it's definitely going on my ballot.

L-a-a-a-a-a-ambert, the sheepish lion

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:51 (twelve years ago) link

dunno if it's really hysterically funny, but it's good. and involves roaring.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:52 (twelve years ago) link

WmC, you may be referring to Tex Avery's "The Slap Happy Lion."

Okay fuckit I'm repping for this

Little Hiawatha (1937)
http://youtu.be/4MUuDFeoyvM

It was a favorite when I was little, and I watched it expecting to cringe but it's p cute imo. Unless you object to tiny bottoms, lol

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:18 (twelve years ago) link

xpost - I think you're right!

Trey Imaginary Songz (WmC), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 22:21 (twelve years ago) link

Lonesome Ghosts (1937), in which Mickey, Goofy and Donald were Ghostbusters before there was such a thing. Goofy actually says, "I ain't a-scared of mo ghosts!"

Just checking the spreadsheet of nominations and noticed that 'Toy Story 2' is missing from it. It was nominated upthread by remy bean.

well hey I did it now cuz why not

nominations are updated, some filmographic data still incomplete.

I have 348 nominations so far, which is pretty sweet. Keep them coming!

Totally rando correction: G.I. Joe: The Movie is '87, not '97. I'd hate to see that error compromise its surefire top five status.

I thought Chico and Rita (Fernando Trueba & Javier Mariscal, 2010) had been nominated, but seems to have been overlooked.

is it worth nominating any of the futurama movies? I just rewatched bender's big score and thought, nah.

Jesu swept (ledge), Thursday, 7 June 2012 08:13 (twelve years ago) link

Un autre: Gandahar, aka Light Years, 1988, René Laloux. Same guy as Fantastic Planet, more traditional animation, more ideas, better story.

Jesu swept (ledge), Saturday, 9 June 2012 08:53 (twelve years ago) link

God, what am I thinking. Gantz Graf, Alex Rutterford, 2002.

God, what am I thinking. Gantz Graf, Alex Rutterford, 2002.

One poll in which I will NOT vote for Autechre.

Liz Leeemon (Leee), Saturday, 9 June 2012 22:41 (twelve years ago) link

Maybe shouldn't be adding more Popeyes, as vote-splitting may render his chances of placing more minute, but I was watching last night and these are particularly fab:

Brotherly Love (1936)

Bridge Ahoy (1936)

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:18 (twelve years ago) link

Just watching Madagascar, 2005, Eric Darnell/Tom McGrath. If a panda can get a nomination then lemurs deserve one too imo.

Jesu swept (ledge), Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:08 (twelve years ago) link

Hmm it's pretty annoying tho

Jesu swept (ledge), Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:25 (twelve years ago) link

kung fu panda 2008 btw, not 2011. think that may've been the second one.

koogs, Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:18 (twelve years ago) link

Just took kids to Madagascar 3 yesterday. It is not any kind of great, and I wouldn't nominate it much less vote for it, BUT it does have pretty amazing set pieces. Action scenes in digital animation these days can be pretty mindblowing.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)

Pubes Like Jagger (Leee), Monday, 11 June 2012 00:40 (twelve years ago) link

I am an unbiased poll administrator but that is a terrible movie.

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Monday, 11 June 2012 00:57 (twelve years ago) link

It is not. Mike Mignola is incapable of producing anything of less than stellar quality, which reminds me:
The Amazing Screw-On Head (2006)

Hope it's eligible, it's a TV pilot of a series that never got picked up.

Pubes Like Jagger (Leee), Monday, 11 June 2012 01:04 (twelve years ago) link

Nominations over!

Voting thread and updated nomination list mañana

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Monday, 11 June 2012 05:04 (twelve years ago) link

Dang, I was gonna nominate:

Mindscape/Le Paysagiste (1976)
http://youtu.be/6Q9sY9Ti1DI

Gorgeous NFB Canada pinscreen animation. NFB probably underrepresented in general (did anyone nominate any Richard Condie?).
