Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below
5 Centimeters Per Second

does McLaren's Begone Dull Care count?

also: can we nominate individual shorts from larger anthologies? like the sorcerer's apprentice? or, more realistically, the two BRILLIANT shorts from the overall-not-the-greatest-except-for-those-two-shorts allegro non troppo? (that's the only reason i ask)

Do I have to be that guy? OK, then.

Easy enough to remember that I stopped at Kung Fu Panda

A Town Called Panic [Panique au village] (2009)

^^^ this film is hilarious, is 75 minutes long, is streaming on Netflix, is Belgian, and features a vending machine that dispenses giant waffles, among other things. Watch it, vote for it.

(Nom-stanning is ok in this thread as usual I guess)

while you're here, you got a call on movies that combine live action w animation (roger rabbit, mr limpet, etc)?

The lion the witch and the wardrobe

Mordy, Friday, 25 May 2012 04:46 (twelve years ago) link

I OK'd Svankmajer's Alice; I really don't know how to feel about Roger Rabbit. Obviously many animators worked hard on the movie but many animators worked hard on Pirates of the Caribbean too. Let's say that Roger Rabbit and Mr. Limpet get in; I'll continue to case-by-case these based on seekrit algorithms.

I'm trying to decide if End of Evangelion violates my rules on being just episodes of a series smushed together.

^ o shit yeah. one of my favorite movies period.

i'd argue for the inclusion of EOE as a stand-alone work

is it worth nominating any of the futurama movies? I just rewatched bender's big score and thought, nah.

Jesu swept (ledge), Thursday, 7 June 2012 08:13 (eleven years ago) link

Un autre: Gandahar, aka Light Years, 1988, René Laloux. Same guy as Fantastic Planet, more traditional animation, more ideas, better story.

One poll in which I will NOT vote for Autechre.

Liz Leeemon (Leee), Saturday, 9 June 2012 22:41 (eleven years ago) link

Maybe shouldn't be adding more Popeyes, as vote-splitting may render his chances of placing more minute, but I was watching last night and these are particularly fab:

Brotherly Love (1936)

Bridge Ahoy (1936)

Just watching Madagascar, 2005, Eric Darnell/Tom McGrath. If a panda can get a nomination then lemurs deserve one too imo.

Jesu swept (ledge), Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:08 (eleven years ago) link

Hmm it's pretty annoying tho

Jesu swept (ledge), Sunday, 10 June 2012 19:25 (eleven years ago) link

kung fu panda 2008 btw, not 2011. think that may've been the second one.

koogs, Sunday, 10 June 2012 20:18 (eleven years ago) link

Just took kids to Madagascar 3 yesterday. It is not any kind of great, and I wouldn't nominate it much less vote for it, BUT it does have pretty amazing set pieces. Action scenes in digital animation these days can be pretty mindblowing.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)

Pubes Like Jagger (Leee), Monday, 11 June 2012 00:40 (eleven years ago) link

I am an unbiased poll administrator but that is a terrible movie.

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Monday, 11 June 2012 00:57 (eleven years ago) link

It is not. Mike Mignola is incapable of producing anything of less than stellar quality, which reminds me:
The Amazing Screw-On Head (2006)

Hope it's eligible, it's a TV pilot of a series that never got picked up.

Pubes Like Jagger (Leee), Monday, 11 June 2012 01:04 (eleven years ago) link

Nominations over!

Voting thread and updated nomination list mañana

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Monday, 11 June 2012 05:04 (eleven years ago) link

Dang, I was gonna nominate:

Mindscape/Le Paysagiste (1976)
http://youtu.be/6Q9sY9Ti1DI

Gorgeous NFB Canada pinscreen animation. NFB probably underrepresented in general (did anyone nominate any Richard Condie?).
