I will add that unlike the lyrical teen fantasy Chronicle or Neveldine-Taylor’s daring Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance which addressed life, death, morality, Marvel’s The Avengers has little to say other than “Buy me!”
― Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, May 21, 2012 7:10 PM (1 hour ago)
ha, I thought I was the only person who dug ghost rider: SoV. a tough sell after the first but it was pretty damn good.

i guess this movie's probably all talked out but: this was pretty much what i expected, dumb but pretty fun. it could have been just hulk and iron man and would have been just as good, if not better. i liked the captain america movie but he and thor are basically the same character, both humorless and upright and anachronistic and without much in the way of powers other than being strong. hawkeye and black widow were totally pointless. i like cobie smulders getting a chance to break out of how i met your mother, though she didn't really have a character here.
i mentioned this on facebook but my favorite LOL Loki moment was him giving his taunting speech to a crowd of Germans ... in English (who all mysteriously know what "kneel!" means).
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 01:27 (twelve years ago) link
thor was the only one of these fucking movies i haven't seen so i was kinda pissed that the main bad guy/plot came from that movie because i didn't know what was going on when he was suddenly in space talking to an alien on a meteor
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 01:34 (twelve years ago) link
thor was where the aliens taught the germans english

― Hungry4Ass, Tuesday, 22 May 2012 01:36 (twelve years ago) link
There's a powerful scene in Thor where the Asgardians show Superman II and there's a closeup of young Loki watching General Zod while the music rumbles ominously and Loki nods.

Thor's movie is pretty meh. Seems like it's all filmed on the same four square block set, with no clear villain (snooze giant robot), albeit plenty of villainy.

Finally got around to seeing it and I didn't really dig it that much; maybe I've become cynical in my 26 years but dizzying action scenes and dialogue that is almost exclusively A) lame one-liners or B) foreshadowing something that happens 5 minutes later in the movie. It actually reminded me a lot of the Expendibles, more impressive visually but not as funny. I counted maybe two lines that didn't seem incredibly scripted (and I think both of them were RDJs!) but I suppose that maybe I'm looking into this too much as the last oh say 90 minutes of it was just one big action sequence that got more ridiculous and improbable as time went on. I get that all these guys are smart dudes but their ability to formulate the perfect plan or to understand incredibly complex technology despite getting repeatedly whacked in the head was kinda irritating. But I give the movie 1 zillion points for not going too far down the Jeremy Renner/ScarJo dumb romance story which would have killed everything.
All that said I think this was probably the greatest visual spectical since say Spiderman2 so that counts for something
― frogbs, Saturday, 2 June 2012 22:48 (twelve years ago) link
"incredibly scripted" could be a way to compliment dialogue, actually

No, the one about how a lot of people think his show is completely improvised but in fact it is very tightly scripted.

I always hated how the Marvel movies have the heroes constantly removing their masks so that you can see the famous actor's face. Iron Man looks cool with the helmet, but not with Robert Downey's head sticking out the suit; Tobey Maguire's face + Spider-Man's suit looks just silly. I wonder if it's because, A) the actors demand their faces should be shown during action scenes too, or B) the movie makers think people can't emphasize with a hero unless he has a human face (completely ignoring the fact that people emphasize with characters like R2-D2 too)? Can you imagine if they'd done the same thing in the Batman movies?― Tuomas, Wednesday, February 29, 2012 1:40 PM (4 months ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
