Friday night in Central Park with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. There's an ILM thread about it.

Anyway, getting on the plane now

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 23 July 2004 05:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Happy landings!

jim wentworth (wench), Friday, 23 July 2004 05:33 (nineteen years ago) link

Make that 100, and you'd be right.

(Wish I'd actually thought to look for this thread on Thursday, when I was actually in an airport.

i'm jet-lagged and smoking a camel, not in an airport.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:09 (eighteen years ago) link

i ate a "wrap." it was "pink."

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:16 (eighteen years ago) link

this has been a really weird week!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:16 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm holding it down though. soon i'll be in another airport, and i'll have like 4 hours to kill!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:17 (eighteen years ago) link

I'll be in two airports next week. One in Canada! Calgary! I've never been to Canada before. I'll be there for all of an hour!

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:18 (eighteen years ago) link

actually, three airports.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:18 (eighteen years ago) link

what's your second airport?

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:18 (eighteen years ago) link

there's another airport thread on ILE.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:18 (eighteen years ago) link

toronto!!

what magazine(s) should i get? what's out now? is there a new vanity fair?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:18 (eighteen years ago) link

i started this thread though!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:19 (eighteen years ago) link

AND I'M GONNA END IT (ominous music)

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:19 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't even know where Calgary is!

xp the new Vanity Fair is the one with Jennifer Anniston on it.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:19 (eighteen years ago) link

i could get TIME CANADA with kanye west on the cover ("hip hop's class act")

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:19 (eighteen years ago) link

oh that J-AN VF looks thick and JUICY!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:20 (eighteen years ago) link

oh no, I wasn't suggesting that this thread isn't valid, just noting the confluence.

xp get Wired. Wired's the quintessential airport magazine.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:20 (eighteen years ago) link

eww!! i don't think i've ever bought an issue of wired!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:21 (eighteen years ago) link

I LIKE wired!

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:21 (eighteen years ago) link

really? is it good? i guess i've read some wired articles online... but BUYING a magazine about the internet always seems like a waste of money!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:22 (eighteen years ago) link

it's not about the internet, it's about science! and they have one or two really good writers (and some terrible ones).

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:23 (eighteen years ago) link

can i buy an issue of mondo 2000 instead?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I mean, it IS kind of embarassing, but I enjoy it.

xp yes

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:23 (eighteen years ago) link

well i'll totally buy it if the VF isn't there. also the entertainment weekly this week looks boring!! it's like a summer wrap-up issue, fuck that, i don't wanna read past tense versions of the articles they've been writing since may!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:25 (eighteen years ago) link

what about a foreign newspaper?

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:28 (eighteen years ago) link

or a good mystery?

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Toblerone?

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Remember s1ocki, it's the end of winter down there. But don't be surprised to see lots of long stockinged legs even with the winter coats.

R.U. Sirius is podcasting now

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I misread the thread title as I AM AN AIRPORT, so I was hoping it would be full of things like I AM AN AIRPORT COME AND LOOK AT TEH AIRPLANES TALKING OFF FROM ME.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:44 (eighteen years ago) link

It could well have been a lost Jonathan Richman song- the followup to "Rockin' Shopping Center" and the precursor to "I'm A Little Airplane."

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 25 August 2005 23:10 (eighteen years ago) link

slocki, how is hte shoulder? Did it survive the 1st leg of the journey?

Wiggy (Wiggy), Thursday, 25 August 2005 23:18 (eighteen years ago) link

Calgary = Canadian Cowboyland. (Well, a lot of cities are Canadian Cowboyland, but Calgary likes to think of itself as the capital of it. Also, ask LeCoq about how cool Calgary is.. hahahah)

donut gon' nut (donut), Thursday, 25 August 2005 23:36 (eighteen years ago) link

the shoulder is... ok! i mean still spasming a bit but definitely definitely better than yesterday (going to bed last night w/horrible shoulder & everything else = the :(ness)

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 23:44 (eighteen years ago) link

thanks for asking!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 23:44 (eighteen years ago) link

incidentally, i'm in an airport again!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 23:45 (eighteen years ago) link

i watched entourage on my laptop on the plane! i'm charging it up again for the mega-long trip to BA.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 23:45 (eighteen years ago) link

hey s1ocki - i might run into you during TIFF! i heard your crew mentioned when i was planning events with a certain hipster toronto hotel establishment...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 25 August 2005 23:50 (eighteen years ago) link

haha no shit!! what's your deal tiffwise?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 August 2005 23:56 (eighteen years ago) link

my new job (just started last week!) is with a big radio company and we're working on doing some live recordings at you-know-where, and they have lots of 'secret shows' there during TIFF and we might record some. yee-ha! and yeah, they mentioned your posse was there and i thought "hey! i know one of those guys!" and then realized, no, i don't, i only exist on a messageboard with one of those guys! but would be cool to meet you...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 26 August 2005 00:10 (eighteen years ago) link

for real!! i think it's going to be kinda crazy!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 26 August 2005 00:13 (eighteen years ago) link

i like crazy!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 26 August 2005 00:23 (eighteen years ago) link

Nobody looks cool going through TSA screening. This, I suddenly realize, is my biggest issue with flying: I only like things that look cool

There’s a Sammy’s here (as in Hagar). Do I go for some tequila?

calstars, Friday, 1 September 2023 00:21 (nine months ago) link

does a Hagar shit in the woods? hell yes brother

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 1 September 2023 00:24 (nine months ago) link

It’s a good tequila and I think you deserve it. Try not to show up in a viral video later.

Josefa, Friday, 1 September 2023 00:30 (nine months ago) link

I was desperate enough to hear a follow up to 1984 that I gave 5150 another chance last weekend after nearly 30 years of abstinance. Starting with "Dreams", i made it as far as "reach for the golden ring" on my first attempt before switching it off.

The second time through was unbearably sad, though. It's the optimism for a future that never materialized, where you know you're watching a tragedy but the actors still think it's another kind of play. Part of it is def that there's a certain brand of corporate modernism preserved in amber, like they've ditched the laser grid of 1984, put on a blazer and stepped into the Frasurbane Mcdonalds. But also the energy of a new creative partnership that seems full of promise but already peaked.

Oh, Sammmy, I'd love a tequila TY for offering.

So I get to Orlando International Airport to get my mother. I miss the turn for cell phone lot so I cut through Departing Flights cos it's empty.

Few lights illuminated, unusually dark. I see this item lying there in my lane almost immediately and swerve out of the way.

It's a fucking car bumper. No cones to warn about it or any attempt to clear it, just this serious road hazard sitting there right almost immediately after you bank left.

This Airport is just more and more bizarre every day.

Iacocca Cola (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 11 June 2024 01:58 (three days ago) link

maybe it had fallen off the previous car to pass through and you were the first person to have the opportunity to clear it

bae (sic), Tuesday, 11 June 2024 02:04 (three days ago) link

Probably lucky it wasn't landing gear or some other important part of a Boeing plane.

Jaq, Tuesday, 11 June 2024 02:07 (three days ago) link

I'm going with the more likely explanation that there was an accident that occurred there a while ago

Xpost yeah ain't nobody wanna be Donnie Darkoed

Iacocca Cola (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 11 June 2024 02:08 (three days ago) link

In any case I couldn't see what it was until I had already swerved out of its way. Due to lack of lighting

Iacocca Cola (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 11 June 2024 02:09 (three days ago) link

I was in the Austin airport last week and it wasn't bad except for having to walk almost a mile outside in 100 F heat to get to the taxi/rideshare pickup location.

Jaq, Tuesday, 11 June 2024 02:10 (three days ago) link

Oi that's brutal

Iacocca Cola (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 11 June 2024 02:16 (three days ago) link

free bumper, dude
when I was in Austin they had an entire section of the lower parking garage set up for uber/whatever that was attached to the airport but warm. did they move it?

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Tuesday, 11 June 2024 03:56 (three days ago) link

I say warm as a pejorative here because the air wasn’t moving and it was just a bit toasty

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Tuesday, 11 June 2024 03:57 (three days ago) link

Maybe it was the gates I flew into but yeah had to walk through a section of parking garage then go up a floor then walk some more to the pickup zone

Jaq, Tuesday, 11 June 2024 04:25 (three days ago) link

no good!
