Suarez lob was great but it was against Norwich in a dead rubber and the keeper was miles out. Context and opposition as well as technique make the others better.

I don't think Suarez meant that one... Ok, now I'm clutching at straws; it was an awesome finish. (Ruddy for England!). Why did he have to find form against us? Especially in the game where we could have caught them on points. I can see Norwich surviving solely on Goal Difference now, on this current run of form vs. the form of some of the embattled teams below us.

CraigG, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:44 (twelve years ago) link

Ronaldinho we'll never truly know if he meant it

Ah you'll be one of those English Men.

I suppose it happening before everyone (English) realised he could do that shit week-in week-out made it doubtable at the time but surely the next six years kind of showed that of course he fucking meant it he was the best player in the world.

we are not bemused (onimo), Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:45 (twelve years ago) link

dinho's was completely and obviously intentional. Don't know where that comes from.

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:46 (twelve years ago) link

number none is one of those englishmen from donegal iirc

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

That's some awesome pessimism xp - you'd need three straight wins for Bolton & QPR, apart from your own form. If it actually happened, you'd've given up your goal advantage too most likely.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

English papers at the time were all "fluke goal" - truly bizarre efforts at passing it off as a lucky miss-hit cross.

we are not bemused (onimo), Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

no need to to accuse me of being English

Number None, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:49 (twelve years ago) link

Did not know where Number None was from, sorry - I've only ever heard victims of that goal calling it anything other than brilliant.

we are not bemused (onimo), Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:49 (twelve years ago) link

Obviously Ronnie meant it - what's the alternative, he overhits a gentle twenty-yard lob by nearly twenty yards, and finds the top corner by a million-to-one chance?

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

It's quite a different technique anyway. Suarez is on the run

Number None, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

Even Beckham was standing still when he hit his

Number None, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:51 (twelve years ago) link

nayim's does seem more hit n hope but idk that feels like such an irrational thing to say when he decided what to do and put it in the exact place it needed to go

i think maybe there are just certain illusions of perfect execution when it comes to lobs. agree that suarez's is more satisfying anyway, and yeah maybe it is the being on the run

best is le tiss v schmeichel 4ever (or are we gonna be hardcore about chips v lobs?)

r|t|c, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:52 (twelve years ago) link

Oh yeah, you can rely on some solid pessimism from me. Just can't see us taking anything from Arsenal. Honestly, though, I do feel confident we should take something from Villa, but who knows. We've just been so close to 'mathematical safety' for so long, and squandered our subsequent chances.

CraigG, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:52 (twelve years ago) link

fuck me we won a league game. kenny in.

Chris, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

xposts. just get a poll on the go already

Chris, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

Phillippe Albert vs Seaman was a peach too - on the run but closer in and well disguised vs top opposition in a big match.

we are not bemused (onimo), Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:54 (twelve years ago) link

my favourite chip is Suker on Schmeichel actually

Number None, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:54 (twelve years ago) link

SChmeichel not Seaman

we are not bemused (onimo), Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

xxp stop being insane craig, norwich are safe as 'ouses even if you dont win another point

r|t|c, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

Schmeichel got made a fool of a few times

Number None, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

deserved it for wearing a clown nose

we are not bemused (onimo), Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:57 (twelve years ago) link

i'm an albert man for pure chips, but letiss vs flowers is an example of the rare powerlob, crashed in from forty odd yards but nonetheless definitely a topspin effort.

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:57 (twelve years ago) link

let's all agree that it's the coolest kind of goal anyway

Number None, Saturday, 28 April 2012 18:59 (twelve years ago) link

least cool lob ever is O'Shea against Arsenal

Number None, Saturday, 28 April 2012 19:01 (twelve years ago) link

coolest was cantona vs sunderland

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 April 2012 19:02 (twelve years ago) link

combined with the celebration yeah

Number None, Saturday, 28 April 2012 19:02 (twelve years ago) link

wait did someone really forget rivaldo's bicycle up there

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 April 2012 19:03 (twelve years ago) link

actually more impressed by suarez's second tbh, that shit was breathtaking

there's a terrifying moment in the celebrations for the third when you see suddenly see john hartson rocking up in a red shirt to congratulate the wee man, but thankfully no, it's just shelvey caught up in some latent cognitive haywire

r|t|c, Saturday, 28 April 2012 19:07 (twelve years ago) link

marcos senna against betis is my favourite lob.

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 28 April 2012 19:09 (twelve years ago) link

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 April 2012 20:06 (twelve years ago) link

Karlheinz Riedle got a memorable. chip for Pool back in the day, against Leeds maybe? Its trajectory has stayed with me.

Di Santo's goal was pretty choice too

Number None, Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:39 (twelve years ago) link

Woo, Di Santo for Wigan's fourth while we're talking about chips.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:40 (twelve years ago) link

lol who was that glam old duck next to steve kean in the stands

r|t|c, Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:42 (twelve years ago) link

fowler's bicycle chip too

Wigan Newcastle seems like about the game of the season

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:44 (twelve years ago) link

I reckon City-Arsenal was the best I've seen this season

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:51 (twelve years ago) link

but here's Swansea-Wolves, could be promising

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:52 (twelve years ago) link

dropping rodallega (and consequent adjustments) seems like the key factor in wigan's upswing

r|t|c, Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:52 (twelve years ago) link

if sturridge, why not scott sinclair btw?

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:53 (twelve years ago) link

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:54 (twelve years ago) link

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 28 April 2012 21:56 (twelve years ago) link
