I haven't seen a single Mulligan movie or performance, except the Bleak House miniseries apparently, in which I didn't recall her.
However, she has legit stage chops it seems -- I would've gone to the off-Bway version of Through a Glass Darkly if I had the cash. And I will be seeing Shame in about 3 weeks.
jaymc, it's A WEEK with Marilyn that M.W. is playing, so it's not a biopic.

seconding carey mulligan as a stage actress. i saw her in the seagull, and she was fantastic.
― kaygee, Thursday, 15 September 2011 04:38 (fourteen years ago)
while she has no character and doesn't do anything to elevate a part that was barely written at all, Mulligan is pretty stunning in Drive.
― Gukbe, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 04:58 (fourteen years ago)
^^^This. The key thing is Mulligan photographs well, and they built on that. That one bit where she's fixing her hair before going out on the drive, the scene where we find out the husband's coming home, really got to me.

Michelle recently opened up to Elle about her hair: “What [my daughter] Matilda would love is for her mom to grow out the cropped hair, though that’s unlikely to happen any time soon. I’ve really grown into it - I feel like myself with short hair. And it’s been a really long time since I had long hair, five years. Of course, the only people who like it are gay men and my girlfriends. Straight men across the board are not into this hair!”

Her hair looks amazing super short like that. Not many people carry that off well but she does so perfectly. Straight men should STFU.

she's not good in Drive but it's not really her fault, she's horribly miscast.

Actress Carey Mulligan shunned traditional wedding shoes and wore rain boots as she exchanged vows with folk rocker Marcus Mumford in the English countryside on Saturday.

otoh Michelle Williams dating Jason Segel at the moment makes me inexplicably happy. they just seem like nice people imo.

I thought Carey Mulligan was still married to Tom Cruise

Shame = first time I sort of didn't mind Carey. I would say it must've helped her to be surrounded by such a completely horrible movie, but that didn't work when it was An Education, so she must have improved in the in between.

sarah polley is horrible, horrible, horrible. that michelle williams on baywatch thing is adorable. i hope that's still in her demo reel, not that she probably has such a thing.

Did Mulligan and Mumford get married in a muddy manger?
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 27 May 2012 14:29 (fourteen years ago)
she was great in SHAME but i hated the film. just for once i'd like to see a *positive*, upbeat movie about some urban geezer who can't connect to people and bangs everything in sight.

This was an extremely drab and boring movie, BTW.
She was good in Doctor Who.

time to revisit this? i'm afraid to re-watch an education b/c i'm afraid it won't hold up. carey mulligan also seems so much worse since she took up with marcus mumford. i mean, i don't know that i've seen much of her since then -- except for inside llewyn davis, i guess? -- but just the fact that she is married to him.
but i will totally see suffragette in which i gather she is the star but meryl streep showboats as emmeline pankhurst.

“Michelle Williams is in early talks to take on the role of rock icon Janis Joplin in a new biopic directed by Sean Durkin, the director of Martha Marcy May Marlene,” reports the Guardian‘s Catherine Shoard. “The film, titled Janis, is based the singer’s sister Laura Joplin’s book Love, Janis, which uses the singer’s letters to track her life from the coffee house roots of her career through to Woodstock, when she struggled with alcohol and drug addiction to cope with her sudden celebrity.”
