Yesterday I was contemplating buying a MLP t-shirt for my daughter. How in the world did it come to this?????????? I hate myself.

Those old My Little Pony cartoons were so bad they were compelling. A few years ago, I saw one with my daughter about a seemingly evil, but misunderstood, pig-princess, who was manipulated by her underlings. Nothing made sense, everything kept flip-flopping from one scene, and one shot, to the next, the dialogue was unlistenable, and it was frantic, despite not much really happening in the story.

I tried to find it on YouTube. Alas, no luck.

The new My Little Pony show, subtitled Friendship is Magic, has developed quite a cult following over the past few months. It was developed by Lauren Faust, who also worked on The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends - the new show is her attempt to make a proper girl's cartoon, that appeals to its core audience instead of patronising it.

Adult male MLP fans have a name for themselves:bronies. They're even namechecked in the latest TV ad:
