Actually, if the neti pot works for you, I'm all for it. I should buy one and give it a try. I can see the argument in favor of it being gentler but I'm still a believer in pulsatile irrigation. (I don't like the fact that those tips snap off kind of easily on Grossan's own model, but Waterpiks--and I've gone through a bunch--tend to have serious flaws as well.)

Too hardcore for me. But again, the pot is fuckin' awesome. Totally helping.

Today, after a particularly grueling week of hayfever symptoms, I went and got myself a neti pot, and have just completed my first nasal irrigation. It wasn't difficult or painful, just kind of gross, but I'm breathing really clearly right now, and I think it was probably worth it.

My friend from years ago got hold of me through myspace. His headline was "NETI POTTING IT UP!"

I used 0% urine. Lukewarm water and 1.2 tsp seasalt only.

I'll double the amount of urine tomorrow, and continue to do so until I find the right balance.

Okay, that belongs in another thread, on a completely different forum with different posting code. Although who knows? If P'Gell had tried nasal irrigation, maybe she wouldn't have been such a cruel temptress?

My irrigation unit is such a hassle to clean, not to mention various problems with it (like the fact that the on/off switch stopped working not long after I bought it and I have been turning it on by plugging it in, and turning it off by unplugging it--just asking for an electric shock), I've decided to try the neti pot. Just bought a nice ceramic one from the co-op I go to. This was my latest irrigation unit model:

Pretty much the cadillac of nasal irrigation units, and still not very well made.

My wife (bless her) gave me a neti pot for my birthday a couple of years ago. It isn't a miracle tool, but it is a useful tool and I've been giving it a solid workout the past two weeks or more - trying to dislodage a sinus infection. It's gone now. I'm down to once a day for maintenance.

tmi question: is it like those stories I heard about colonics where all kinds of weird stuff comes out your nose?

ive been using a neti at least 2wice a day for about a month now and my usually horrible allergies have all but disappeared

tmi answer: the first time i used it, there were definitely a fair amount of gross dark bits that came out. since then, all is pretty good.

fuckin love neti pottin! i started doing it in the shower, mostly for the convenience of hot water etc also i do everything i can in the shower, i like to think the combo of sinus irrigation + deep breathing the steam = my current respiratory health.

all my adult life i have gotten ear infections about once a year, usually in oct or nov, but not since the neti!

getting bad allergies so just neti'd myself.

lol at that gif. it's kinda amazing how not that long ago really neti pots (in america at least) were this kinda wtf bizarre thing and now it's common and routine, as exotic as salsa.

huh. mine is metal, wonder how that effects potential bacterial growth. I would imagine it drastically deters it.
