I liked that bar.

I like it too. There's never really a wait for drinks and the sound system is good. Plus the owner is always dressed like a freakshow.

On top of the sky is a place where you go if you've done nothing wrong,
If you've done nothing wrong.

And down in the ground is a place where you go if you've been a bad boy,
If you've been a bad boy.

So it's on and on and on, oh it's on and on and on
It goes on and on and on, Heaven and Hell
I can tell, fool, fool!

A friend of mine once suggested that heaven and hell are entirely subjective states. Through life, you collect all kinds of energy of different intensities and qualities. When you die, you release all of the energy you've collected. Depending on how much you have and how strong it is, that's what determines how long you stick around and what kind of state you stick around in. For instance, if you have a lot very strong angry energy, you'll probably stick around a while, though your primary emotion during this time will be anger. If you have lots of bland, tentative kinds of energies, your experience will consequently be shorter and not very exciting. So each person experiences a heaven or hell of his or her own making.
I haven't really thought through the complications of this, but the idea appeals to me very much. It certainly beats being shoe-horned into someone else's idea of an afterlife.

Hell is yourself
Heaven is being completely free from your self

Heaven is a warm Hammond B-3 organ and a big leslie cabinet.

Hell is a tiny plastic keytar.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 19:46 (twenty years ago) link

Hell is Florida.

Heaven: Catalina Island (OK, I'm only dreaming....)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 19:47 (twenty years ago) link

KEytars aren't hell! I can't believe you said that, nickalicious!

Heaven is a place on earth.
Hell is where bats come from.

Okay, I'll retract my knee-jerk Anti-Keytaristic statement and put forth a different heaven/hell offering...

heaven = Live at the Filmore
hell = Live at Budokon

i've started subscribing to the idea that heaven & hell shouldn't be regarded as states occurring only after death. i find this is a good way to balance my faith and constant rationalist doubts. thank you dostoevsky.
