my drummer lent me the superjail dvd, haven't checked it out yet

It has an adult sensibility but the art is loose and fun.

Yes E3 they're really great oh and, as it turns out, I love this.

The title cards should absolutely be collected as a book.

tom herpich is working on this? awesome. love GONGWANADON (read it now!), always wondered what'd become of him.

this is the best show, btw

contenderizer, Monday, 16 May 2011 20:42 (thirteen years ago) link

This was a good season, "Death in Bloom" probably being the single best episode. I think it was slightly more inconsistant than S1 though.

Duane Barry, Monday, 16 May 2011 20:56 (thirteen years ago) link

Inconsistent? Which episodes were bad, though?

Jouster, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 00:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Happily, the third season starts next month!

phantompenguin, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 00:55 (thirteen years ago) link

not sure if it was inconsistent as much as there were really high highs which made the ok episodes look kinda dull by comparison

the first rule of debate club (Edward III), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 03:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Some episodes were a little slow, comparatively. The best episodes are the ones that have so many super creative surprises that constantly keep you on your toes like new characters, background situations, wackily stylized expressions, mind-blowing comments/word use, and bagels magically getting torsos/legs/underwear- all very suddenly. Though some that were a little more disappointing initially turned out to be incredible when watched again.

It's raunchy and maddening. All those men and their disgusting fantastic bodies.

monster_xero, Sunday, 29 May 2011 02:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Five minutes of this and I'm like "wait that dogs voice sounds familiar".

Its John DiMaggio is why.

Jouster, the second season just had a higher number of episodes that didn't work (at least for me, personally) than the first - e.g. "Crystals have Power", "The Other Tarts", "Mystery Train". I'm not suggesting the show is going downhill or anything (not even close!) as there were a lot of fantastic episodes too. Looking forward to S3.

last week's episode about marceline was really great.

phantompenguin, Monday, 1 August 2011 23:20 (twelve years ago) link

I know there's a new season and I'm really excited about seeing it but I only just started watching from s1 this last week so I'm not quite there yet -- should I just watch new episodes as they air? does it in anyway matter if I watch them out of order?

Mordy, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 00:06 (twelve years ago) link

nah it's not narrative in any way, there are bits you'll get if you've seen earlier eps (eg marceline's dad eating fries means more if you've seen it came from
the nightosphere) but it's so random anyway you can just roll with it

big triffid in my backyard (Edward III), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 03:52 (twelve years ago) link

such a great show, but particularly i was thinking recently how boom boom mountain + city of thieves seem very miyazaki'esque -- really surreal + strange + wonderful

have you seen the silent king? it has a similar weird-world mentality, there's this great part where jake gets in bed and a goose and a lion just walk in and become his pillow and blanket.

xp

Assume this refers to "Memory of a Memory". Might be my favorite thing ever made for television.

also hilarious was "beautopia" featuring the return of susan strong, jake is in rare form

^ yeah, this whole episode was great. want to go through each episode by writer/storyboarder to see who's in charge of my favorites. tone and approach vary pretty substantially, and there are a lot of different artist involved. loved tom herpich's work in S2 ("memory of a memory" for instance), but i only noticed his name cuz i was already a fan.

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Sunday, 15 January 2012 17:54 (twelve years ago) link

uh, maybe i mean S3, one of those esses

i love pinfold cricket (gbx), Sunday, 15 January 2012 18:10 (twelve years ago) link

I dunno man it's like god's gift to the 21st century

I guess if you're not around kids you wouldn't get exposed to it much, it hasn't crossed over into the mainstream like a spongebob or powerpuff girls

my only complaint is that they haven't released full season sets but they are all available on itunes
