yeah exactly, it's a truism — i.e. a thing that EVERYONE KNOWS and thus something that is NOT VERY INTERESTING TO TALK ABOUT. it seemed like a thread whose sole purpose was to stir shit up, and even if that's not the case, doesn't it maybe say something about Whiney that his default snarky outlook is often indistinguishable from deliberate trolling?

"whose sole purpose was to stir shit up and/or pat ourselves on the back" I should add

"lol pitchfork herbs be likin' hell hath, all the TRUE clipse lifers know the album before the one everyone liked is better than the one everyone liked"
yeah guess what, the modest mouse album before the one with "float on" on it was way better, and the one before that one was even better, etc etc who gives a shit

i think it says something about something.
― zvookster, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:41 (fifteen years ago)
i mean i'm not really sure how u can have this thing that everyone knows is true, but it's disgusting for a critic to be interested in cataloging exactly what records are being talked abt
― zvookster, Saturday, 5 February 2011 00:42 (fifteen years ago)
this thread is now a kid in a darth vader lid making force gestures at ilx

ok so u guys think this alleged phenomenon is a charade, i guess, rather than something actual? even so, i don't know why u'd be instantly angry abt it, or don't sb other ppl out when they allude to it.
― zvookster, Saturday, 5 February 2011 01:11 (fifteen years ago)
nah it's real but idg what the big deal is or why you should be unhappy that other people like the same stuff you like
― dayo, Saturday, 5 February 2011 01:12 (fifteen years ago)
it's investing the reception & reputation of records against a measure of their quality, the kind of thing ppl do all the time here, prob coz there are so many crits

*investigating
― zvookster, Saturday, 5 February 2011 01:16 (fifteen years ago)
lol is it so hard to believe that people with different aesthetic sensibilities than yours might find this one record more appealing and/or are not invested in a historical appreciation of music

honest question j/v/c: did you click "suggest ban"?
Nope. For two main reasons. First of all, as I explained before, I didn't want Whiney to be banned. He definitely can bring something worthwhile to the table when he's not deliberately trying to push buttons or get attention for himself and I hoped (rather stupidly, as it turns out) that maybe if more people actually called him out for it rather than silently hitting 'suggest ban', he might possibly tone down his antics. But, obviously, that was wrong of me to think, because its pretty apparent by the twitter feed he started just after his banning, that he feeds off this kind of negative attention. The other reason I didn't click it - he's been banned before and that didn't do a single thing to change his attitude.

1) Barstards, you banned meor2) lol they can't handle the TRUTH!!!

GhostOfOldILX The Ghost Of Old ILX Just had the email from Hasbro, they're definitely doing an ILx range of Shrinky Dinks. First design is gonna be either kkvgz or Kanye West.
I can't parse this, to be honest.
― Catsupppppp Grind (kkvgz), Monday, 7 February 2011 14:48 (fifteen years ago)
Whiney doesn't bother me that much. He's never approached s1ocki levels of shitting on threads. But it's all on a continuum. Annoyance at all levels.

still not the most adorable ad ever, but it was a breath of fresh air compared to the other Super Bowl ads
― rockapads, Monday, 7 February 2011 19:17 (fifteen years ago)
pretty mediocre ad imo - this type of ad has existed before of the parent making the kid think he has powers. they just put a coat of star wars paint on it
― Princess TamTam, Monday, 7 February 2011 19:25 (fifteen years ago)
It's much more precious than adorable. I reserve my adoration for wonderful, magical animals, such as pigs.
― Aimless, Monday, 7 February 2011 19:31 (fifteen years ago)
the ad is "cute" but doesn't really sell the product and is basically star wars dorkbait
― call all destroyer, Monday, 7 February 2011 19:34 (fifteen years ago)
Well, yeah, of course it is. But it was miles ahead of most of the other crap last night like flinging babies into glass walls and a woman knocking another woman unconscious by throwing a can of soda at her head. I used to be all r my d e at all those hand-wringing "why are Super Bowl ads so violent" commentaries that seemed to appear every year, but man, I don't know, I think they might have a fair point this year. They were ridiculous. Can't forget the one where the guy is encouraging a dog to smash into a glass door (yes, I know the tables get turned, but still) or the FOX race car one with the ferris wheel going on a rampage.

the look on the dad's face is what makes this
still:
when a thread titled: "Is this the most adorable commercial ever?" gets no snark it is time to leave ilx/the internet/the planet.

I'm a little confused as to why I have to keep explaining this, but my tirade against Whiney was a reaction to his general approach as of late and this thread just happened to be where I put it. To clear it up, hopefully for the final time, I was not butthurt by Whiney or anyone else hating this commercial and I made this title 100% on purpose and with tongue planted firmly in cheek.
