Tom A. (Tom B.) (Tom C.) (Tom D.), Thursday, 9 December 2010 10:48 (thirteen years ago) link

also I have gotta say that Captain Lorax's one is totally rad, and that rent has a lovely melodic sensibility

you mean you DON'T fancy a wine-and-middle-aged-spread do at the Great House?

a lout deeply plugged into the Po (acoleuthic), Thursday, 9 December 2010 13:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha, you just made his day,.

xpost told yer. Or rather, I didn't...

Mark G, Thursday, 9 December 2010 13:06 (thirteen years ago) link

It's the shoehorning of cricket references into songs that gives it away.

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Thursday, 9 December 2010 13:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Just downloaded! EXCITED.

moiré eel (a passing spacecadet), Thursday, 9 December 2010 13:12 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm listening to this right now and it's really good!

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Thursday, 9 December 2010 13:13 (thirteen years ago) link

I actually only logged back onto ILX to comment on this comp...

I've listened to it one and a half times through now and it's of pleasingly high quality throughout. Because it's such a huge chunk of music (surprising given its actual brevity) I starred tracks that stood out as particularly wonderful - so my initial favourites (and I'm sure I'll add more as I get into it):

Zappi - Snowblood, Tyler W - Denver Diatribe, Kelly - What You Do To Me, Clonefeed - Skipper, Snoball - Gas, Fügügüffü - ID, 77_2 - Capitaine Jay Vee, rent - 771, Grannykart - Minor Antarctic Island

(oops, sorry I think I've inverted artist and title in some of those but you get which tracks I mean.)

Karen D. Tregaskin, Thursday, 9 December 2010 13:25 (thirteen years ago) link

this thing is great, my track fails in comparison to all of these.

Yeah, there's an ass for that. (chrisv2010), Thursday, 9 December 2010 14:13 (thirteen years ago) link

minor antarctic island sounds like the theme from "heroes"

Yeah, there's an ass for that. (chrisv2010), Thursday, 9 December 2010 14:57 (thirteen years ago) link

What a great comp. A lot of you should be recording/releasing music if you aren't already! Really happy to have been part of this.

Here's some of my other music (much longer than the tracks on here): soundcloud.com/professorjorge

chrisv2010 : your track is excellent.

A happenstance discovery of asynchronous lesbians (Capitaine Jay Vee), Thursday, 9 December 2010 15:50 (thirteen years ago) link

huzzah! just started listening to this -- sounds amazing so far. thanks to everyone who contributed and stevie for organizing. great cover art too ...

tylerw, Thursday, 9 December 2010 16:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Thanks!

Yeah, there's an ass for that. (chrisv2010), Thursday, 9 December 2010 16:17 (thirteen years ago) link

ol dirty malkmus = awesome

tylerw, Thursday, 9 December 2010 16:40 (thirteen years ago) link

i think a fun way to listen to this for the first time might be to just put the lot in a playlist, hit shuffle and not look at what's playing unless i really like the sound of it (which could certainly happen a lot) so gonna try that tonight - no disrespect intended to stevie for thoughtful sequencing tho

modrić in paradise (blueski), Thursday, 9 December 2010 16:46 (thirteen years ago) link

karen, i loved your track! and the kelly songs are wonderful, too (i esp. liked 'books and records')

a rozay is a rozay is a rozay (donna rouge), Thursday, 9 December 2010 20:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Karen, you did a wonderful job. Your Reason skills are pretty advanced imo

ZOUNDS! (CaptainLorax), Thursday, 9 December 2010 20:23 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i dug yours too, karen. whole thing is wonderful, kind of oddly cohesive.
would anyone be averse to me posting a link on my blog? totally cool if we want to keep it an ILX-only thang.

tylerw, Thursday, 9 December 2010 20:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Gosh - mine are quiet. Should've mixed them louder. ah well...

A happenstance discovery of asynchronous lesbians (Capitaine Jay Vee), Thursday, 9 December 2010 20:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Same here - my 1st and 3rd tracks could do with being a bit louder as well.

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Thursday, 9 December 2010 20:59 (thirteen years ago) link

Wish I still worked at the sportstalk station. Some of these would make for great bumpers/liners.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 9 December 2010 21:00 (thirteen years ago) link

I think I suffer from that pretty badly as well, especially coming 13 seconds after EdIII's marvellous blast of raucousness (xp)

but hey it's not a prob, listen to the whole thing damn loud imo

ken c's is one of the real underrated growers here i think

a lout deeply plugged into the Po (acoleuthic), Thursday, 9 December 2010 21:01 (thirteen years ago) link

ha, that's actually what my contribution began as -- a potential bumper thing for a podcast. rejected! glad it's found a (better) home. xpost

tylerw, Thursday, 9 December 2010 21:01 (thirteen years ago) link

I've got "Denver Diatribe" on my list of favorites here, so I guess it hit its mark!

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 9 December 2010 21:03 (thirteen years ago) link

"Snowblood"
"Denver Diatribe"
"Blues Name"
"Song for Denver Lucas"
"House of Clocks"
"Production"
and "Steering" all made me sit up and take notice.

Special, special recognition to all the Clonefeed songs. I wrote all of those down too. I would buy any Sega game for the soundtrack alone based on those songs.

Two Denver songs, eh? "Denver Lucas" could almost be a cover of an outtake from later Minutemen album.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 9 December 2010 22:36 (thirteen years ago) link

This is v good! I could play favourites but maybe I'll give it a few more listens first as there's just so much to take in.

(Still sad that smoke came out of my computer when I was hoping to work on it but would've been totally outclassed so all good in the end)

moiré eel (a passing spacecadet), Thursday, 9 December 2010 22:39 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm sure more of the others will latch on after a few more listens, but on Day 1, those were the ones that stood out.

I dare someone to create a poll that ends in a year.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 9 December 2010 22:42 (thirteen years ago) link

this is excellent!

rent, Friday, 10 December 2010 00:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Cheers Pleasant Plains.

It is making me so so happy that everyone is enjoying this so much!

it is thursday now (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 10 December 2010 04:22 (thirteen years ago) link

my two big favorites are "Song for Denver Lucas" and "Repetition Pears 77"

lotta good stuff on here -- lou & surm, Grannykart, crüt, P Nunez... latebloomer's tracks are kinda hysterical, I'm not sure if he meant them to be funny or not...felt like he was channelling mid-70s Devo

pixel farmer, Friday, 10 December 2010 04:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Thanks for the nice words. I've been enjoying this so much, honoured to be part of such an accomplished and fantastic sounding compilation! Kudos to everyone involved.

Played a couple times now, every so often, checking the track counter, so will have to log them...

at some point.

Mark G, Friday, 10 December 2010 10:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Some are 'long things, shortened'

Some are 'exactly the right length'

Only one is 'didn't need to be that long, did it?' which is the point, kinda.

Mark G, Friday, 10 December 2010 10:58 (thirteen years ago) link

asked upthread -- does anyone mind if i post a link for this on my blog?

tylerw, Saturday, 11 December 2010 19:54 (thirteen years ago) link

dude it's on a public message board, don't think anybody cares where it gets posted

youtubular bells (Edward III), Saturday, 11 December 2010 20:16 (thirteen years ago) link

ilx is a public message board? then how come i'm paying ned raggett monthly subscription fees?
jk, yeah, i guess you're right.

tylerw, Saturday, 11 December 2010 20:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Can I put this compilation onto a cafe press coffee mug?

Pleasant Plains, Saturday, 11 December 2010 21:17 (thirteen years ago) link

saturday (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 11 December 2010 21:17 (thirteen years ago) link
