trying to decide whether to go to ^^ this or Bronze at Public Works

Jon Williams?
It's funny to see $5 and Red Devil Lounge mentioned in the same sentence as that's usually the stage to countless $20 coverbands. Good for them for stealing talent away from Kimo's and the Hemlock.

does kimo's even do shows anymore?
― sarahel, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 19:33 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah my best friend works there and arranged the show. it's a welcome change, to say the least.
amazing how popular coverbands are, particularly with the mid-30s tech stock set

ok so it's $5 advance, $8 at the door
also if you (not that many of the outraged people on this thread actually saw them firsthand) think SF's"riots" were bad, you should go down to LA after the Lakers clinch the NBA championship. I mean c'mon, 6 arrests? Two related acts of violence? Spraypaint? Fireworks?

Expo 70 is also playing at my friend's warehouse space on Friday night in West Oakland - two blocks from BART. Dude is a 78 collector and has all kinds of weird stuff.
― sarahel, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 19:37 (thirteen years ago) link
xp steve - it looked worse than that from what friends who live in the Mission were saying and posting, and pictures people were posting online.
― sarahel, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 19:38 (thirteen years ago) link
Halloween in the Castro 3 years ago was way more out of hand. This was jr. league.

78 Collectors: Why are they so weird?
― i love you but i have chosen snarkness (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 19:43 (thirteen years ago) link
last time i was in the city i started talking to some random beardy dudes (one had a tweed jacket and a dog-eared ee cummings book in the front pocket) who invited me to a west oakland warehouse party. apparently the headlining act was to be a coke can of liquid mdma? dunno, never went.
― moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 19:44 (thirteen years ago) link
this was outside at zeitgeist, btw
xp - it is possible i know tweed jacket guy; if he was who i think, he was mostly joking.

― moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 19:52 (thirteen years ago) link
they were real characters
xp: let me try to narrow this down: one of them had a fixed gear bike and a messenger bag?

that's a pretty suspicious use of the phrase "civil disobedience"
― sarahel, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 22:07 (thirteen years ago) link
true - it's all a bunch of drunken yahoos obviously
otoh whoever was driving that car deserved the beating imho
― klacktoveedesteen (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 22:07 (thirteen years ago) link
I mean seriously what were they fucking thinking plowing into the crowd like that. just drive down some other street!
― klacktoveedesteen (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 22:08 (thirteen years ago) link
more idiots deserve to be beaten - clearly the lack of beatings is what is responsible for so much idiocy in this country.
― sarahel, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 22:09 (thirteen years ago) link
I'm always suspicious of such language but wtf? When you see a huge crowd of people in the street, you don't decide to get all self-righteous and drive over them, ffs. Make a u-turn and leave. Last night on Haight (before the cops had shut the street down, ppl were actually helping drivers turn around safely to leave.

Had dinner at We B Sushi on Valencia from 9-10pm and the entire time outside was solid noise, horns, people playing musical instruments out of their windows, etc. Stopped by 22nd and Mission around 10pm last night and the mood was amazing, the streets were shoulder-to-shoulder for a block in either direction. At that point it would have been completely impossible for a car to get through.
That's some crazy youtube footage but it's like six minutes out of several hours of pure love

I didn't know this game was their 4th win, I thought it was their second and was a bit baffled by what seemed to be a massive overreaction on everyone's part
