castle dunluce in northern ireland is really great, too -- not just the castle ruins themselves (though those are impressive enough), but the dramatic views from the ruins onto the sea:

Anaszai (the first one) is 11th century, and Taos Pueblo is 11th-15th century, depending on who you ask.

I went to Carcassonne in France last year, it was cheesy as hell and we had absolutely shithouse food and ze locals weren't that nice. But I LOVED it! Castles are hugely classic.

Amelienborg Palace (the Danish version of Buckingham palace. V friendly guards! A friend of mine went right up to them pissed as a fart holding a pint glass and they calmly gave him directions home which was impressive seeing as he was looking for the river that he needed to cross [there is no river in Copenhagen!]? Important to note, you can go right up to the door of the castle i.e. molotov throwing range! There's confidence in a lack of social revolt for you...)

River Castle, Ever More an Apparition, Further Crumbles

Bannerman’s Castle was already an enigmatic ruin in the middle of the Hudson River, a dreamy landmark for passing train travelers and a passionate cause for preservationists.

But then in the silence of last Saturday night, a large chunk of history suddenly disappeared when the castle’s stone, brick and cement sighed under a century’s weight of weather. Overnight, two-thirds of the eastern tower was gone, as well as one-third of the adjacent southern wall, leaving a gaping hole and concern over how to stop the crumbling.
