The Museum of Performance & Design’s (MPD) critically acclaimed exhibition Somethin’s Happening Here: Bay Area Rock ‘n’ Roll 1963-73 marks the end of its run with a very special program on August 25 that focuses on the sounds of the era it celebrates. In a treat for casual fans and aficionados alike, the Museum hosts an evening of rare audio and video recorded during the 1960s in San Francisco. Big Brother & The Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Sly & The Family Stone, the Sons Of Champlin and the Beau Brummels are among the many local acts to be featured in an unprecedented evening of sound and vision.

Is this exhibit worth seeing?

xp - depends on the night of the week - there are places i'd recommend for a weeknight crawl that i'd advise steering clear of on weekends because of covers and douche factors.

sarahel, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:40 (thirteen years ago) link

agreed. weeknight in the mission can actually be great...

start at the Phonebooth, then go up to the Lone Palm, then cross back down to Shotwell's, then go to the Uptown, then end the night at Zeitgeist.

Doc's Clock is pretty great, too (also in the mission) - will definitely rep for the Uptown

sarahel, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:44 (thirteen years ago) link

^^ 1.5 blocks from apartment :D

tbh id say just go to lone palm, have a nice drink, then go to phonebooth, get ripped, go buy a loosie cig from shotwell's, and go home and watch next food network star instead of zeitgeist. never been to the uptown?

69, Thursday, 5 August 2010 17:56 (thirteen years ago) link

See, I think you should go to Zeitgeist first before it gets crowded. I love it when it's empty back there and you can choose from that veritable panoply of port-o-potties.

theyre ok, a little like zeitgeist's port-a-potties, but with light? there's also inside BRs which are fine.

if you want to do an oakland beer crawl, i did this last weekend for my bday and it was tons of fun.

Linden St Brewery. need to make an apt, but it's hella informal and they're really great there. only make 2 beers, but they're really, really good. http://www.lindenbeer.com/
Beer Revolution http://www.beer-revolution.com/ (similar to City Beer on folsom, pretty great)
Heinold's First & Last Chance (in jack london) http://www.heinoldsfirstandlastchance.com/. weird, shack like, tilted bar
The Trappist http://www.thetrappist.com/. tons of amazing belgian style beers.

for food in the area, there's a vegan soul food place next door to beer rev or chop house or bocanova. all good places

jaxon, Thursday, 5 August 2010 19:04 (thirteen years ago) link

for a couple hours after work (at least on wednesdays), jon's street eats parks at beer rev

what east bay are you experiencing? because it is cold and awful in berkeley and emeryville all the time

i wish it would just fucking rain so I don't have to wash my car. this mist is mingling with all the filth and making my automobile a thing to recoil from.

akm, Thursday, 5 August 2010 19:31 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't drink anymore but c'mon, latin american club.

akm, Thursday, 5 August 2010 19:33 (thirteen years ago) link

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 19:41 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm down w/a FAP at LAC but I'll have to see my bartenders at 500 or Benders or Attic at some time or they'll kill me serve me weak drinks in future.

Hi sf; I am looking for a kind of 90s sexy bar with perhaps a large aquarium and looks like itd be in a sexy erotic thriller lifeti$e movie with eric roberts or something. A downtempo soundtrack would be amazing too. Does anywhere in SF fit the bill?

homosexual II, Monday, 9 August 2010 01:54 (thirteen years ago) link

nowhere I've been, except maybe the bar at Bimbo's, which I don't think is always open.
